This paper presents an application of Bayesian analysis to an AIDS model of Japanese meat demand extending previous approaches in three ways: (1) The methodology employed is robust with respect to the likelihood function but retains the generic, easily programmable character of algorithms offered by Monte Carlo Integration approaches based on the normal likelihood function. An adaptive estimator is proposed to optimally estimate unknown truncation points of the error support space for the general linear model. The adaptive estimator is specified analytically to minimize a risk function based on the squared error loss measure. It is then empirically applied to a generalized maximum entropy estimator of the linear model using bootstrapping, allowing the information set of the model itself to determine the truncation points. Monte Carlo simulations are used to demonstrate performance of the adaptive entropy estimator relative to maximum entropy estimation coupled with alternative truncation rules and to ordinary least squares estimation. This paper develops a monthly domestic demand and supply equilibrium model for Washington apples that can be used to assess the effectiveness of price and non-price promotional activities. The econometric methodology employed takes into account market differences across the U.S. and is based on data pertaining to individual retail stores located throughout the U.S. The period of analysis is from September 1990 through August 2000 on a regional basis. Whereas a large number of empirical studies have been devoted to analyzing the relationship between measures of income and globalization (defined by openness to international trade), much less attention has been paid to the analysis of well-being for the various subgroups of population and their causal associations with globalization. This paper reports the results of a case study analyzing the impacts of promotion and advertising conducted by the Washington Apple Commission (WAC) using both single- and multi-equation systems. The analyses are compared in terms of the comparability and coherency of results and in terms of the types of information that can be generated by the multi-equation model but not by the single-equation model. This paper makes a contribution to the application of nonlinear simultaneous equations estimation and nonparametric Bootstrapping techniques. The nonlinear demand model estimation work in this paper is in the context of the newly developed Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System (QUAIDS) model, and provides substantive results in terms of both model estimation technique and empirical economic findings. For the first time, bootstrapping is used in this highly nonlinear modeling environment to estimate variability in demand model parameter estimates and associated demand elasticities. This paper attempts to provide a comprehensive analysis of interrelationships among the determinants of the Quality of Life (QOL). We show that various measures of well-being are highly sensitive to domains of QOL that are considered in the construction of comparative indices, and how measurable inputs into the well-being indicators are aggregated and weighted to arrive at composite measures of QOL.
