EFECTOS DE LAS ENMIENDAS ORGÁNICAS SOBRE LAS PROPIEDADES FÍSICAS DEL SUELO CON ESPECIAL REFERENCIAS A LA ADICIÓN DE LODOS URBANOS R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.

KINETICS OF MOLYBDATE AND PHOSPHATE SORPTION BY SOME CHILEAN ANDISOLS R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Vistoso G,Erika Marina; Bolán,Nanthi S; Theng,Benny K. G; Mora,María de la Luz.
The kinetics for the sorption of molybdate and phosphate by four Chilean Andisols have been determined. About 55%o of the molybdate and 61% of the phosphate was sorbed in the first 0.5 h, after which sorption slowly increased, reaching 90%o for molybdate and 97% for phosphate after 72 h. At the same time, OH¯ ions were released into the external solution, raising its pH by 0.85 units for molybdate and by 0.65 units in the case of phosphate. These observations indicated that both anions were sorpbed by a ligand exchange mechanims. Among the five kinetic models examined (),Table, 2 the Elovich equation gave the best fit of the experimental data (R² = 0.93 to 0.97, standard error = 0.35 to 0.94). The sorption rate constant (α) for both anions was...

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RADICAL INFESTATION OF Hylastinus obscurus (MARSHAM) AND THE YIELD OF CULTIVARS AND EXPERIMENTAL LINES OF RED CLOVER (Trifolium pratense L.) R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Alarcón,Daniela; Ortega,Fernando; Perich,Fernando; Fernando,Pardo; Parra,Leonardo; Quiroz,Andrés.
Red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) is a valuable forage legume grown alone or in mixture with grasses in temperate regions of the world. Red clover is adapted to a wide range of soil types, pH levels, environmental and management conditions. However, the main limitation of this species is the lack of persistence related to the high mortality of plants. In Chile the main biotic factor affecting survival of plants is the root borer Hylastinus obscurus (Marsham) (Coleóptera; Scolytidae). In 1989, a red clover (T. pratense L.) breeding program was started at Carillanca Research Center of the Institute of Agricultural Research (INIA), Chile, with the main objectives of improving the survival of plants, forage yield and persistence. In 2002 a research line to...

MOVEMENT OF N0(3)-N AND NH4-N IN AN ANDISOL AND ITS INFLUENCE ON RYEGRASS PRODUCTION IN A SHORT TERM STUDY R.C. Suelo Nutr. Veg.
Mora,María de la Luz; Cartes,Paula; Núñez,Pedro; Salazar,Mauricio; Demanet,Rolando.
In acids soils, the use of ammonium fertilizers accelerates the acidification processes and decreases both the production and persistence of the pastures. Nitrogen (N) is the most limiting factor for plant growth in most agricultural systems, but also it is one of the major environmental issues worldwide. In Chile, neither systematic studies in the first period of pasture growth and nor N leaching losses associated have been reported. The aims of this study were: (i) to evaluate the effect of the N sources at increasing rates of application on the yield and quality of ryegrass (Lolium perenne) and (ii) to quantify in the short-term the N potential leaching losses and the pH changes throughout the soil profile under field conditions. A field experiment was...
