The Initial Impact of WTO Membership on China's Trade Performance in Primary Agricultural And Processed Food Products AgEcon
Xue, Liu; Revell, Brian J.; Zetian, Fu.
There has been much analysis of the potential impact of China's membership of the WTO on world trade in agricultural products but few studies of the actual effects thus far on China's trade performance. This paper compares changes in the competitiveness of China's trade in primary agricultural food and processed food products over the period 1998 to 2003 through a range of comparative advantage measures, the preferred being Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage. It also decomposes changes in China's export market share of these products over the period into structural and performance components and identifies where shifts in the global regional distribution of its exports have contributed to changes in its overall market share.

Institutional Learning and Change: An initiative to promote greater impact through agricultural research for poverty alleviation AgEcon
Watts, Jamie; Horton, Douglas.
The ILAC Initiative consists of an evolving community of individuals committed to increasing the contributions of agricultural research to sustainable poverty reduction around the world. ILAC promotes research, methodology development and capacity development to increase understanding of agricultural change processes and increase the effectiveness of interventions to stimulate pro-poor innovation. This paper presents a broad overview of ILAC, including its background, origins and evolution, objectives and activities. It also presents the initiative’s central hypothesis and a set of guiding questions. Theoretical frameworks that show promise for increasing understanding of issues related to capacities to learn, facilitate innovation, and contribute to...

Spatial distribution of agricultural farms led by women in Brazil Rev. Econ. Sociol. Rural
Estanislau,Patricia; Goebel,Márcio Alberto; Staduto,Jefferson Andronio Ramundo; Kreter,Ana Cecília.
Abstract: This work aims to analyze the spatial distribution of agricultural establishments managed by women in the Brazilian municipalities, based on data from the Agricultural and Livestock Censuses of 2006 and 2017, applying spatial econometrics. The results showed that the Northeast and North regions had the highest concentration of High-High clusters in 2006, and increased in 2017. These regions with greater and poorer rural areas expanded the participation agricultural establishments managed by women, and they were responsible for 72.42% the variation that occurred between both Censuses. The education variable was positively related to the increase of the establishments managed by women in 2017. In the municipalities where there was a process of...

Antioxidant activity and physicochemical analysis of passion fruit (Passiflora glandulosa Cav.) pulp native to Cariri region Biological Sciences
Lima-Neto, Abelardo Barbosa Moreira; Marques, Márcia Maria Mendes; Mendes, Francisca Noélia Pereira; Vieira, Ícaro Gusmão Pinto; Diniz, Derlange Belizário; Guedes, Maria Izabel Florindo.
The objective of this study was to determine the proximal composition, the physical and chemical characteristics and the in vitro antioxidant capacity (DPPH, ABTS and FRAP) of the pulp of the wild passion fruit (Passiflora glandulosa Cav.) from Cariri region, Ceara, Brazil. The results showed that the proximal composition and the caloric value of this passion fruit are similar to other species, but with a high ascorbic acid content. The fruit pulp showed low level of antioxidant activity and low level of polyphenolic compounds followed by three methodologies used. Due to high levels of titratable acidity (3.52) and total soluble solids (17.80° Brix), this fruit can be considered as a high value fruit for commerce. However, it is a species of passion fruit...
