Mejdalani,Gabriel; Carpi,André; Carvalho,Rachel A..
The male of the leafhopper Deselvana falleni (Stål, 1858) is for the first time described and illustrated based on material from the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Notes comparing D. falleni to other species of Deselvana Young, 1968 are given. Males and females of D. falleni can be recognized by the dark brown to black dorsum with four well-defined yellow maculae on each forewing, two on clavus and two on corium. The sexual dimorphism of color found in other Deselvana species was not observed in D. falleni.

Notes on Neotropical Proconiini (Insecta: Hemiptera: Cicadellidae). VIII: morphology of the male and female genitalia of Paraulacizes munda, revalidated from synonymy of P. confusa Rev. Bras. Zool.
Mejdalani,Gabriel; Cavichioli,Rodney Ramiro.
ABSTRACT Paraulacizes munda (Fowler, 1899) has been considered a junior synonym of P. confusa (Signoret, 1855). These two species were described from Mexico. Here it is shown that P. munda can be distinguished from P. confusa by the color and size of the body. Hence, the former is revalidated from synonymy of the latter. Descriptions and illustrations of the male and female genitalia of P. munda, which are necessary for an accurate identification of leafhopper species in general, are provided for the first time. Paraulacizes munda can be distinguished from the other 11 species currently included in Paraulacizes by the following combination of features: ground color of anterior dorsum yellow or pale yellow; dorsal processes of male pygofer strongly inflated...

Mejdalani,Gabriel; Carvalho,Rachel Alexandre.
This paper deals with two species of Scoposcartula Young, 1977 that are very similar to each other externally (form and color pattern): S. frontaliana (Metcalf, 1955) comb. nov. (from the state of Bahia, NE. Brazil) and S. talitae Leal, Mejdalani & Cavichioli, 2005 (from the state of Espírito Santo, SE. Brazil). The former species, previously positioned in Amblyscarta Stål, 1869, is redescribed and a male specimen is selected as the lectotype. The previously unknown female of the latter species is described for the first time. Scoposcartula frontaliana can be distinguished from S. talitae by features of the male and female genitalia. The most remarkable difference is in the male pygofer, which has a conspicuously concave posterior margin in S....

Two new species of Sundarion (Hemiptera: Membracidae: Darninae) and taxonomic notes on two congeneric taxa Rev. Bras. Zool.
Creão-Duarte,Antonio J.; Sakakibara,Albino M..
ABSTRACT Two new species of Sundarion Kirkaldy, 1904 - Sundarion flavopiceum sp. nov. (from Brazil, state of Pará, Serra Norte) and Sundarion marmoratum sp. nov. (from French Guiana, Montagne des Chevaux) - are described. The first species differs from S. flavum (Fairmaire, 1846) in having smaller supra-humeral horns, and being dark brown with a large yellow spot on each side of the posterior process. In this aspect, it resembles Alcmeone picea (Fairmaire, 1846). The second species is similar to S. flavum except for being variegate yellowish-brown. Taxonomic comments are provided for S. notabile Souza & Rothéa, 2005, which was previously known only from males, and for S. compressicornis (Fairmaire, 1846) comb. nov., originally described in Hemiptycha...

New host plants records for the froghopper Notozulia entreriana (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) with new data on its occurrence in diverse ecological zones in Argentina Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Foieri,Alvaro; Virla,Eduardo G.; Marino De Remes Lenicov,Ana M..
Spittlebugs represent a widely distributed group of Auchenorrhyncha, being one of the most important assemblies affecting farming and cattle rising in the Neotropics. They attack a wide range of forage species causing considerable deterioration in the quality of pastures that sustain livestock production, particularly in northern and central Argentina. In Argentina, there are no studies integrating the taxonomy and biology of spittlebugs and only a few taxonomic contributions dating back to early past century do exist. Notozulia entreriana (Berg, 1879) is one of the most common spittlebug species inhabiting the subtropical region of the country but it was previously cited for only three Argentinian localities. Throughout the study of specimens housed in...
