Aves ameaçadas ocorrentes no Pantanal.

O Pantanal é um ecossistema extraordinário e importante para muitas espécies de aves, principalmente as aquáticas, que ocorrem em abundância, e as migrantes em larga escala que utilizam a planície de inundação como sítio de forrageio e descanso, durante seus deslocamentos entre o Sul do continente Americano e o Hemisfério Norte (Sick, 1997; Nunes e Tomas, 2004b; Nunes e Tomas, no prelo). Brown Jr. (1986) relaciona cerca de 657 espécies de aves para a planície e áreas limítrofes e Mittermeier et al. (2003) 463 espécies. No entanto Tubelis e Tomas (2003), listam 465 espécies de aves na planície, e citam outras 50 que podem ocorrer. Aves são frequentemente utilizadas como indicadores de biodiversidade em paisagens antrópicas. Apesar de ser o grupo de vertebrados mais estudado, pesquisas sobre os efeitos das mudanças de habitat sobre as condições de vida das aves ainda são escassas e existem grandes lacunas de conhecimento sobre indicadores que poderiam melhor prever a ocorrência de espécies na heveicultura. Este trabalho tem o objetivo de apresentar os resultados da caracterização e avaliação da biodiversidade de fauna, enfocando especificamente a avifauna em monocultura de seringueira. La tuberculosis aviar tiene, distribución mundial y afecta a las aves domésticas y silvestres. El agente etiológico es Mycobacterium avium subsp. avium. El potencial zoonótico de esta enfermedad ha adquirido relevancia con la pandemia de HIV por ello todas las maniobras que involucren la manipulación de microorganismos viables, deben ser llevadas a cabo con adecuadas medidas de bioseguridad. Los trombocitos (TBCs) de las aves son células nucleadas de la sangre, equivalentes funcionales de las plaquetas de los mamíferos. Sin embargo, a diferencia de estas últimas, no sólo poseen núcleo sino también una variada gama de organoides, entre los cuales se destaca un bien desarrollado aparato lisosomal. Son las células más pequeñas de la sangre aviar (8 x 5 mµ), y a menudo existe dificultad para diferenciarlos de los pequeños linfocitos. No hay megacariocitos en la médula ósea de las aves por lo que se originan de precursores nucleados. En el embrión aparecen en el día 2 de incubación a partir del saco vitelino y en la medula ósea a partir del día 12. Se sabe muy poco sobre su sitio de origen en la médula ósea pero al parecer sería intrasinusoidal....

Montagu’s Harrier Circus pygargus, Solitary Sandpiper Tringa solitaria, Namaqua Dove Oena capensis, Red-throated Pipit Anthus cervinus, Savi’s Warbler Locustella luscinioides, Western Bonelli’s Warbler Phylloscopus bonelli, and Southern Grey Shrike Lanius meridionalis. Recent data on the distribution of birds in the Cape Verde Islands are presented, including records of six species new to the archipelago, viz. Pintail Anas acuta, Least Sandpiper Calidris minutilla, Snipe Gallinago gallinago, Red-rumped Swallow Hirundo daurica, African Sand Martin Riparia paludicola, and Song Thrush Turdus philomelos. Also included are data on extentions in range and time within the islands of migrant visitors as well as observations of rare and threatened resident species. Extralimital records of migrant Cape Verde seabirds are summarized and news and views relating to the conservation of threatened endemic taxa are discussed. In addition, some recent studies bearing on the systematics of endemic Procellarids are reviewed.

Until recently, only one specimen from the series of syntypes of the Cape Verde Cane Warbler Acrocephalus brevipennis, collected by H. Dohrn and J.G. Keulemans in 1865, was known to be still in existence. Another specimen belonging to this series has now been discovered in the collections of the Berlin museum. Some additional information on the Dohrn-Keulemans collection is given, based on listings in the old catalogues of this museum.

The south-western Indian Ocean islands, excluding the microcontinent of Madagascar, are geologically complex and diverse. They have been subject to drastic sea level changes, volcanic events and anthropogenic changes, all of which have contributed to confuse understanding of their avian biogeography. An array of factors have affected these avifaunas, based on palaeontological, historical and molecular evidence,which together have shown that avian biogeography is not congruent with the relative age and size of the islands.
