Croissance et mortalite du petoncle noir Chlamys varia dans le bassin d'Arcachon, France ArchiMer

Until 1960, the Black scallop Chlamys varia was relatively abundant along the French Atlantic coasts. Today most of these natural beds have disappeared. Because mollusc hatchery and nursery techniques have been mastered, the reintroduction of this species, under control, was carried out in several areas and particularly in the bay of Arcachon, from 1989 to 1992. Good results were obtained in hatchery and nursery but the development of the juveniles in the natural fields was poor. The growth of Chlamys varia was satisfactory but heavy mortalities were rapidly recorded which could not be related to the hydrobiological conditions. This species seems to be very sensitive to short emersion and removal operations which are incompatible with aquaculture processes.

In lagoons and estuarine ecosystems, the benthic microflora contributes considerably to the primary production of the area and consists largely of diatoms Monthly samplings have been made from December 1976 to March 1978 in a shallow station characterized by the lack of macrophytes. Two sets of monthly sam­plings were made allowing in theone hand a qualitative analysis and on the other hand a quantitative study by cellular counts. Monthly sampling for a 2-year period allowed comparisons between the communities of meiofauna living in fish ponds ("reservoirs a poissons de Certes") and those inhabiting a contiguous tidal pool ("lac de tonne"). Nematods and copepods constitute the bulk of the meiofaunal populations. The community structure of co­pepods is considered in detail.The communities of copepods are clearly separated between the two areas. In terms of abundance, diversity and species persistence, the meiofauna is more stable in the intertidal pool than in the fish ponds. The Bay of Arcachon has been particularly affected by the impact of organotin-based antifouling paints (His, 1996). Boring gastropods, Ocenebra erinacea, have completely disappeared from the Bay, because of the castration induced by these compounds, from 1980 to 1990. There have been no studies on imposex effects in the Bay of Arcachon since the investigations of Poli (1972) who first described the phenomenon, and of Féral (1982) who attributed it to TBT. Farming of the Japanese clam Ruditapes philippinarum took place for the first time in 1980 in the Arcachon basin. After an experimentation period of about ten years, a farming strategy, taking into consideration the distinctive features found in the bay, was able to emerge. For example, in order to fight against clam predators, crabs such as Carcinus maenas, and balistes such as Balistes capriscus, vertical protection coupled with prior ground gravelling, and laying of nets over the beds during the summer months, have become necessary. The best raising technique seems to rest on early spring planting of middle size spats (T5), after checking that no brown rings are visible. The life cycle of Haplosporidium sp., Haplosporida recently observed in the flat oyster of the bassin d'Arcachon (France), and the spore characteristics of which have already been presented (Pichot et al., 1979), has been studied by electron microscopy. The first stages of sporUïation are represented by two types of plasmodia. After the stage of sporonts, sporogenesis seems to develop according ,~ to two sequences. Two-year-old oysters have a physiology which is reproduction-oriented, their maturation occurring synchronously among oysters from the same batch. The importance of the spring accumulation of glycogenated stocks varies through the years and correlates with the growth stage. Glucidic components are quickly used during the month preceding egg-laying and are transformed into lipid stocks for the oocytes. One-year-old oysters develop at different rates, some of them not showing any sign of maturation and the percentage of laying individuals varies through the years. En 2009, La caractérisation du niveau de ploïdie des naissains captés en 2008 dans les deux principaux bassins de captage que sont Marennes Oléron et Arcachon a été réalisée dans le cadre du réseau biovigilance. Les échantillons des naissains sauvages issus de ce captage naturel ont été prélevés sur 3 sites dans chaque bassin et pour un total analysé de 1121 animaux. En tenant compte de notre échantillonnage, nos résultats de suivi de ploïdie concluent à l’absence d’animaux polyploïdes, triploïdes ou tétraploïdes, captés dans les deux bassins prospectés. Evaluation du stock de palourdes du bassin d'Arcachon ArchiMer

As part of a larger project financed by the European Union programme "Community initiative PESCA" on the study of "small scale fisheries" in Aquitaine (France), an estimation of the stock of clams in the Bassin d'Arcachon has been conducted. A two-stage stratified random sampling survey has been designed. Samples have been collected using a Hamon bottom sampler in 237 locations distributed over 24 km2. The clam Tapes philippinarum, which appeared in the basin following a series of aquaculture experiments in the mid eighties, is now the main species accounting for more than 90% of the abundance and the biomass, largely overcoming the European species Tapes decussata. Grâce au réseau de surveillance du phytoplancton  (REPHY) mis en place en 1984, une importante banque de données s'est constituée. L'étude quantitative et qualitative de la flore observée de 1987 à 1990 dans le bassin d'Arcachon permet de montrer les variations suivantes. En ce qui concerne le phytoplancton, Ces quatre années de sécheresse sont dans l'ensemble pauvres et peu contrastées mais montrent tout de même des schémas saisonniers similaires à ceux décrits par les précédents auteurs. Une alternance est observée avec 1987 et 1989 plus pauvres que 1988 et 1990. 1987 et 1989 sont aussi marquées par une sécheresse plus importante et par conséquent de fortes salinités et de faibles apports en sels azotés. L'élaboration d'un modèle de gestion d'un bassin conchylicole nécessite, en particulier, la connaissance de l’évolution des stocks d'huîtres d'une année à l'autre afin d'en apprécier l'influence éventuelle sur le rendement. Le présent travail décrit la méthodologie utilisée et les résultats obtenus au cours de la première estimation du stock d'huîtres Crassostrea gigas en élevage dans le bassin d'Arcachon en 1985. Cette estimation nécessite l'utilisation simultanée de photographies aériennes (évaluation de la surface réellement exploitée ) et de sondages-terrain (évaluation de la biomasse par unité de surface). Specific composition and distribution of the zooplankton in Arcachon Bay varie along a salinity gradient from oceanic to neritic and lagoonal condi­tions. A peak of density and biomass is recorded in spring due to an increase of holoplanktonic species as well as larvae of benthic Invertebrates. A second maxi­mum of abundance is observed in autumn. The community structure of copepods and polychaets larvae is considered in detail. The diversity (Shannon index, Sanders's rarefaction) decreases from the mouth of the Bay to the inner neritic water mass.
