The catch volume has increased by 197 tonnes since 1995, and the number of boats operating has decreased by 10 over the same period. (2). The most important species groups landed (greater than 5% of the total catch) were, carangues (34.8%), job (10.3%), rnaquereau doux (9.4%), cordonier (7.6%), capitaine (6.5%). (3). Peak landings occurred in April (549.7 MT) and the lowest catch occurred in July (211.8 MT). The average catch per month was 375.8 tonnes. (4). A marked seasonal variation in catches of demersal species was observed, with low catches being recorded during the period of south east trade...

Claro, R.; García Arteaga, J.P.; Gobert, B.; Cantelar Ramos, K.; Valle Gómez, S.V.; Pina Amargos, F..
The main objectives of the present study were to describe the historical development of finfish fisheries in the Archipelago Sabana-Camagüey and adjacent northeast region (Cuba), and to assess the current status of fisheries resources. Species and size composition of trawl, trap, and gillnet catches were surveyed, fisheries statistics from fishing enterprises of the area were analysed, and experienced fishermen were interviewed. The historical evolution of catches and changes in fishing effort since 1962 is described. After a growth phase in catches resulting from increasing fishing effort, the fisheries reached a level of overexploitation by the second half of the 70s. The reduction of fishing effort and the establishment of some regulations has...

Floodplain fishery of the lower Sondu-Miriu River with emphasis on the Nile perch (Lates niloticus) (Linnaeus) OceanDocs
Manyala, J.O..
Experimental beach seine surveys in 1990 in the lower Sondu-Miriu River in Kenya indicate a potential catch rate of up to 59.8 kg ha super(-1) hr super(-1). Lates niloticus dominated the catches in the lower reaches (37.5%), while catches in the upper reaches were dominated by Labeo victorianus, Schilbe mystus and Barbus altianalis. L. victorianus contributed up to 84.8% of the catch in the upper reaches by weight. Catches in the floodplain were dominated by Oreochromis niloticus, O. variabilis and Clarias gariepinus, which contributed more than 50% by weight. The size frequency distribution of L. niloticus suggests that larger specimens occur in the river as compared to the floodplain.

A study was carried out the white fish landings made by the artisanal fisheries in mainland Ecuador in 1982. There were four main groups of landings: the fishery for large pelagic fish, the demersal longline fishery on hard grounds; the set net fisheries for corvina and other medium and large bottom fish and the landings of shrimp by-catch. The fishes caught and their nomenclature; the gears used, the vessels and the fishing communities are briefly described. The landings of with fish by these fisheries in 1082 are given and discussed. The total landings were between 15.000 t and 20.000 t. Of this about 40% was large pelagic fish; 20-30% shrimp by-catch, 20% good quality demersal fish and 10% shark. It should be possible to increase the landings in some...

1. During 1989 an estimated total of 4,391.7mt of fish was landed on Mahe, Praslin and La Digue by 390 fishing boats, (including sport fishing boats), 81.2% of which was landed on Mahe alone. The volume of catch does not differ significantly from 1988, but the number of boats has decreased, being a decrease in the number of small boats and schooners, whilst whalers using handlines have increased. 2. The most important species groups landed (greater than 5% of the total catch) were carangues (32.0%), job (9.6%), red snapper (9.1%), capitaine (7.0%), maquereau doux (6.7%), and trap fishes (cordonier 5.6%, others 5.0%), and bonite (5.3%). 3.
Hansen, J.E.; Garciarena, A.D..
As part of the research programs performed yearly at the Instituto Nacional de Investigación y Desarrollo Pesquero (INIDEP, Mar del Plata, Argentina) some important basic data about the commercial fisheries usually included in internal reports are registered. This formal paper is a review and summary of size and age composition estimates of commercial catches (discards included) of Northern Argentine anchovy (34ºS-41ºS) obtained between 1990-2011. The basic data resulting from the examination of 521 samples from fishing vessels included 62,466 fish length measurements and 26,667 valid age readings from which the corresponding 22 annual age-length keys were built. The annual estimates of the individual total length-total weight relation parameters and of...

The present work is a study of the fishery of Panulirus gracilis (Green spiny lobster) in the ports of Chanduy, El Real and Anconcito in the north east of the Gulf of Guayaquil 58, 252 specimens caught in the 10 year period 1970 to 1979 were examined. A comparison was made of the sizes of lobsters caught with the established regulation for the explotation of the crustaceans. It was found that both the monthly and annual mean sizes were maintained above the ”minimum permitted length” which is 25 cm total length. Males predominated over females in the ratio 2:1. The percentage of males was 66,5% and of females 33,5%. During the period of the study, berried females of various sizes were frequently found, being most abundant in the months of May, June and July...

The total artisanal catch increased by 344MT compared to 2006, whilst the number of boats operating increased by only 6 units over the same period (excluding sport fishing vessels). The most important species groups landed (greater than 5% of the total catch) were bourgeois (25.7%), carangues (18.7%), job (15.7%), macquereau doux (7.5%), and cordonnier (5.1%). Peak landings occurred in November (612.8 MT) and the lowest in June (211.3 MT), the latter period coinciding with the Southeast (SE) Trades and sea states not conducive to fishing. The average monthly catch in 2007 was 348.4 MT, representing...

Seychelles demersal fishery an analysis of data relating to four key demersal species OceanDocs
Mees, C. C..
Seychelles demersal fishery is described based on historic catch and effort data, and on biological studies of four key species: Batrican (Pristipomoides filamentosus), Job Gris (Aprion virescens), Bourgeois (Lutjanus sebae), and Maconde (Epinephelus chlorostigma). During the period 1985 - 1990 demersal species formed on average 33_310= of the total annual landings of the local fishing fleet. Schooners and whalers were the most important boat types engaging in this fishery, and more recently, a mother ship dory fishing operation. Demersal species constituted 77_310= of all local fish exports over this period. In 1990 approximately 2,000 tonnes of demersal species were landed of which 500 tonnes were exported. Lutjanids comprised 62_310= of the demersal...
