Etude des anomalies chromosomiques chez Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Lapegue, Sylvie; Mccombie, Helen; Leitao, Alexandra; Bouilly, Karine; Sabatier, Sebastien; Heurtebise, Serge; Boudry, Pierre; Thiriot, Catherine; Gerard, Andre.

Persistence of atrazine impact on aneuploidy in the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas ArchiMer
Bouilly, Karine; Mccombie, Helen; Leitao, Alexandra; Lapegue, Sylvie.
Aneuploidy is the alteration of the normal diploid chromosome number. In the Pacific oyster, Crassostrea gigas, hypodiploid aneuploid cells have regularly been reported as has a negative correlation between this phenomenon and growth and evidence for a genetic basis. We previously demonstrated a positive relationship between a pollutant, atrazine, and aneuploidy in Crassostrea gigas adults and juveniles. To evaluate the persistence of this impact, the present study focused on a sample of the same juveniles exposed to different atrazine treatments (0.01 mg/l which represents a peak value found in a polluted environment and 0.1 mg/l) for three and a half months and evaluated them for aneuploidy after another two and a half months in non polluted conditions....

Cytogenetics and redescription of Graomys (Rodentia, Sigmodontinae) from Chumbicha, Catamarca, Argentina Mastozool. neotrop.
Lanzone,Cecilia; Novillo,Agustina; Suárez,Natalia S.; Ojeda,Ricardo A..
The taxonomy, phylogenetic relationships and distribution of the genus Graomys are confusing. In this note we report karyotypic data for specimens of Graomys collected in Chumbicha, Catamarca Province, Argentina. Their karyotypes agree with G. centralis with 2n = 42. The individuals from Chumbicha are similar in morphology to G. griseoflavus but smaller. Our results suggest that Chumbicha's specimens are conspecific with G. medius. Moreover, we propose to synonymize G. medius with G. centralis. Other data of the genus suggest that the name G. chacoensis should be applied to specimens with 2n = 42.

Cytogenetic description of Bunocephalus doriae Boulenger, 1902 (Siluriformes: Aspredinidae) from the Paraná River (Misiones, Argentina) Neotropical Ichthyology
Fenocchio,Alberto Sérgio; Swarça,Ana Cláudia.
In this work, Bunocephalus doriae was cytogenetically analyzed. A karyotype with a diploid number of 2n= 50 comprising 6m, 10sm, 6st, and 28a (FN= 72) chromosomes was observed. The occurrence of an asymmetric karyotype with a large number of acrocentric chromosomes distinguishes this species from others the Order Siluriformes. An exclusive character observed is the first pair of subtelocentric as the largest chromosome pair of the complement. NORs detected using AgNO3 were located in the terminal regions, on the short arm of a subtelocentric chromosome pair (pair 11), in a secondary constriction. C-banding revealed heterochromatic centromeric regions on several chromosomes of the complement after C-banding. This is the first cytogenetic description of this...

Surprising genomic diversity in the Neotropical fish Synbranchus marmoratus (Teleostei: Synbranchidae): how many species? Neotropical Ichthyology
Torres,Rodrigo Augusto; Roper,James Joseph; Foresti,Fausto; Oliveira,Claudio.
Chromosomes and nuclear DNA content variation in the eel Synbranchus marmoratus were studied in seven samples taken from rio Paraguay and rio Paraná basins to examine whether karyotype and nuclear DNA content variations could offer useful information for the characterization of independent evolutionary lineages in the genus and construction of evolutionary and biogeographical hypotheses. The occurrence of different karyotypes was already described for this species; however, a new cytotype from rio Miranda was discovered. Nuclear DNA content showed a wide variation among samples and individuals, ranging from 5.2 to 9.1 pg of DNA/nuclei. An analysis of variance confirmed the occurrence of significant differences among samples. In a deeper series of analyses,...

Cytogenetic data on Astyanax jacuhiensis (Characidae) in the lago Guaíba and tributaries, Brazil Neotropical Ichthyology
Pacheco,Rosiley B.; Giuliano-Caetano,Lucia; Julio Junior,Horácio F.; Dias,Ana L..
Cytogenetic analyses were performed in Astyanax jacuhiensis from lago Guaíba, Brazil. The diploid number was 50, with a karyotype composed of 8m+30sm+4st+8a chromosomes, FN = 92. The AgNORs were observed in 2 to 5 chromosomes, with intra- and interindividual variation. The sm pair 8 observed always carried NORs on the short arms, presenting size heteromorphism between homologous. Fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with an 18S rDNA probe only confirmed the location of ribosomal cistrons in the sm pair 8, and heteromorphism of these regions between the homologous chromosomes. C-banding revealed the occurrence of weak C-positive heterochromatin in the pericentromeric regions of several chromosomes, in addition to more evident bands interstitially...

Cytogenetics of Gymnogeophagus setequedas (Cichlidae: Geophaginae), with comments on its geographical distribution Neotropical Ichthyology
Paiz,Leonardo M.; Baumgärtner,Lucas; Graça,Weferson J. da; Margarido,Vladimir P.; Pavanelli,Carla S..
ABSTRACT We provide cytogenetic data for the threatened species Gymnogeophagus setequedas, and the first record of that species collected in the Iguaçu River, within the Iguaçu National Park’s area of environmental preservation, which is an unexpected occurrence for that species. We verified a diploid number of 2n = 48 chromosomes (4sm + 24st + 20a) and the presence of heterochromatin in centromeric and pericentromeric regions, which are conserved characters in the Geophagini. The multiple nucleolar organizer regions observed in G. setequedas are considered to be apomorphic characters in the Geophagini, whereas the simple 5S rDNA cistrons located interstitially on the long arm of subtelocentric chromosomes represent a plesiomorphic character. Because G....

Karyology of Mugil liza and M. curema from Venezuela OceanDocs
Nirchio-T., M.; Cequea, H..
Karyotypes of Mugil liza and M. curema from Venezuela were studied. M. liza karyotype is 2n=48 acrocentric chromosomes, but M. curema is 2n=24, containing one submetacentric and 11 metacentric pairs. The chromosomic complement described for M. liza constitutes the first report for the speciesand coincides with the modal karyotype (2n=48) in the Mugilidae family. Venezuelan M. curema karyotype differs in number and shape from M. curema from Louisiana (USA), which has been reported to have a complement 2n=28 (10 metacentric pairs, two subtelocentric pairs and two acrocentric pairs).

Karyotype studies in Brazilian species of Lobelia L., subgenus Tupa (Campanulaceae) Rev. Bras. Bot.
RUAS,PAULO M.; VANZELA,ANDRÉ L.L.; VIEIRA,ANA ODETE S.; BERNINI,CÉLIO; RUAS,CLAUDETE F..
Karyotypes of 14 populations including eight species of the genus Lobelia were studied using root tip mitotic metaphases. All populations were tetraploid with 2n = 28 chromosomes. The chromosome base number x = 7 was confirmed for the genus. Karyotype analysis showed that chromosome size varied from 1.05 µm to 2.02 µm with predominance of M and SM chromosome types. The karyotypes were similar among themselves with small intra- and interspecific variations on the size of haploid sets, symmetry indexes and centromere position of some chromosome pairs. These results showed that karyotypes of Brazilian lobelias of the subgenus Tupa were probably due to polyploidy associated with chromosomal rearrangements probably in small chromatin segments.

Karyotype characterization of Malpighia emarginata (Malpighiaceae) Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Mondin,Mateus; Oliveira,Carlos Alberto de; Vieira,Maria Lúcia Carneiro.
Malpighia emarginata Sessé & Mociño ex DC. or West Indian cherry (acerola) is a wild plant originated in southern Mexico, Central America and the northern region of South America. The species was introduced to Brazil about 60 years ago and now the country is the world's biggest producer. Even though the fruits of acerola have high commercial value, as they are an important source of the natural vitamin C, very little chromosome information is available for this species. Previous studies showed that most Malpighia species are diploids, including M. emarginata with 2n = 20. In the present paper, the chromosome number of acerola was confirmed, and for the first time, its karyotype was described, providing the identification of the homologues for the...

Cytogenetics and DNA barcoding of the Round-eared bats, Tonatia (Chiroptera: Phyllostomidae): a new karyotype for Tonatia bidens Rev. Bras. Zool.
Tavares,Jaqueline R.; Sousa,Tatiane P. de; Silva,Joaquim M. da; Venere,Paulo C.; Faria,Karina de C..
ABSTRACT There are two species of Neotropical Round-eared bats, Tonatia bidens Spix, 1823 and Tonatia saurophila Koopman & Williams, 1951, which present highly similar morphological characteristics that can lead to errors of identification. Specimens originally identified as T. bidens have recently been reclassified as T. saurophila, and the only karyotype documented previously for these species was 2n = 16, FN = 20. In the present study, specimens of Tonatia collected in the municipality of Barra do Garças, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso, were analyzed morphologically, using conventional cytogenetic techniques (C-banding, Ag-NOR, and CMA3), and through sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene. In the specimens...
