Todas as combinações copa/porta-enxerto apresentaram compatibilidade e crescimento... |

During the Last Glacial Maximum, the northwestern North Atlantic constituted a major conduit for Labrador and Greenland ice sheet meltwaters. Vertical density gradients in its upper water masses have been reconstructed by combining information from transfer functions based on dinocysts and from oxygen isotope measurements (delta(18)O) in planktonic foraminifera. Transfer functions yield temperature and salinity and thus potential density (sigma(theta)) for the warmest (August) and coldest (February) months in the photic zone. The delta(18)O values in different size fractions of epipelagic (Globigerina bulloides) and mesopelagic (Neogloboquadrina pachyderma left-coiled (Np1)) foraminifera allow us to assess sigma(theta) gradients through the pycnocline... |

This study deals with rearing methods, growth and mortality performances, and problems encountered by the oyster farmers from Quiberon Bay (2800 ha of leases) : it relies on a survey achieved in july 2001, about 18 oyster farmers, and 2 diving campaigns (july and october 2001) on 2 years old oyster batches from the same farmers. The analysed enterprises vary in particular by the location and depth of their concession inside the bay, but also by their rearing scheme : a majority favours seedings with 18 month old oysters or more, according to prices and availability of oysters supplies. The duration until marketable size and mean mortalities seem to have increased since a preceding inquiry in 1986. The main constraint, affecting priorly the south border... |

Much is known in very broad terms about the distribution of deep-sea fishes, but information on fine-scale habitat selection and behaviour in the largest living space on earth is still rare. Based on video sequences from 4 dives performed with the manned submersible 'Nautile' at depths between 400 and 2000 in in the Bay of Biscay, NE Atlantic, we studied the behaviour of co-occurring slope-dwelling deep-sea fishes. Five different habitats were identified according to depth range or topographical and hydrological characteristics. For each fish species or genus that could be identified, estimates of absolute abundance were provided. The most frequently occurring species, round-nose grenadier Coryphaenoides rupestris, blackmouth catshark Galeus melastomus,... |
