ABSTRACT Here we provide a checklist of the flies of the families Acroceridae, Mydidae and Therevidae on the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. Acroceridae are represented in Brazil by 30 species, and only Philopota tuberculata Westwood is recorded for the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. The three reported species of Mydidae in the state, Gauromydas autuorii (D’Andretta), Messiasia zikani D’Andretta, and Messiasia notospila (Wiedemann) are among the 27 species now known in Brazil. There are 30 species of Therevidae in Brazil, and only one, Cyclotelus kroeberi (Cole) is known to occur in the state. |

ABSTRACT We present a new update of the list of birds of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, based on a thorough review of new records and evidences accumulated from February 2011 to July 2017. This is the fifth update since the first compilation based on a reasonably complete geographic coverage of the state, published by William Belton in 1978, and the second produced by a regional (informal) committee. It is also the first to widely use citizen science contributions available on shared portals and digital databases on the internet. Forty-three taxa were added, resulting in a final list with 704 species, 6.5% more than in the previous assessment in 2010. Two species were replaced due to taxonomic changes. Morphometric and distributional data and some observations on the biology of Natalus stramineus Gray, 1838 collected in eastern Bolivia and in northern, northeastern, central, and southeastern Brazil are presented. All new records, combined with the records of the species from Paraguay and Mato Grosso, significantly change the known distribution of N. stramineus in South America. The specimens from northeastern Brazil (Rio Grande do Norte, Ceará, Bahia) are smaller than those found in the northern (Pará), eastern (Espírito Santo, São Paulo) and central regions of the country (Distrito Federal, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul). Natalus stramineus specimens from the three latter regions are about the same size, but are larger than those from Santa Cruz, Bolivia.... |

Seven species of aloricate planktonic ciliates were identified using protargol staining. Choreotrichida: Strombidinopsidae, Strombidinopsis elongata Song & Bradbury, 1998; Strobiliidae, Strobilidium epacrum Lynn & Montagnes, 1988 and Strombidiida: Strombidiidae, Strombidium capitatum (Leegaard, 1915) Kahl, 1932; S. emergens (Leegaard, 1915) Kahl, 1932; S. acutum Leegaard, 1915; S. dalum Lynn, Montagnes & Small, 1988 and Cyrtostrombidium longisomum Lynn & Gilron, 1993; they were collected from the inner zone of the Bahía Blanca estuary in the southern region of the Buenos Aires province, Argentina. These species represent new records to South America (Argentina). |

The male of Mangora brokopondo Levi, 2007 is described and illustrated for the first time. Variation in the color pattern of the females is documented. Mangora woytkowskii Levi, 2007 is considered a junior synonym of M. hirtipes (Taczanowski, 1878). New records of M. alinahui Levi, 2007 and M. pia Chamberlin & Ivie, 1936 are presented. |

ABSTRACT Trichoptera presents about 15,000 species described globally, of which 2,562 are recorded in the Neotropics and 642 in Brazil, distributed in 70 genera and 16 families. In Brazil, knowledge of the distribution and species richness of Trichoptera is incipient and heterogeneous, especially in some states such as Mato Grosso do Sul. In this work, we present an updated checklist of caddisflies for Mato Grosso do Sul state, representing nine families, 24 genera, and 16 species, four of them are new species records. Additionally, a new record of species for the Brazilian country is presented. |

The lesser grison (Galictis cuja) is one of the least-known mustelids in the Neotropics, despite its broad range across South America. This study aimed to explore current knowledge of the distribution of the species to identify gaps in knowledge and anticipate its full geographic distribution. Eighty-nine articles have mentioned G. cuja since 1969, but only 13 focused on the species. We generated a detailed model of the species' potential distribution that validated previous maps, but with improved detail, supporting previous southernmost records, and providing a means of identifying priority sites for conservation and management of the species. |

ABSTRACT A checklist composed of 105 species of parasitic Hymenoptera, which includes the non-aculeate Apocrita, recorded in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), Brazil, is presented. A new list, containing 153 genera obtained in recent surveys is also presented; out of these 131 are new records. The major knowledge gaps for these organisms in the State and the prospects for future studies for these organisms are discussed. |
