Evolutionary Biology integrates several disciplines of Biology in a complex and interactive manner, where a deep understanding of the subject demands knowledge in diverse areas. Since this knowledge is often inaccessible to the majority of specialized professionals, including the teachers, we present some reflections in order to stimulate discussions aimed at the improvement of the conditions of education in this area. This study aims to assess the efficiency of using real-scale knee models to learn about the locomotor system. Participants included a total of thirty-nine second year students in a Human Anatomy class of a Biology Teaching course. One week before the intervention, a pre-test was administered to assess the students' prior knowledge. The pre-service biology teachers were provided with a real-scale plaster model of a knee bone and were subsequently required to identify and create their own model of bone, joint and muscle elements. Recently, the curriculum and the educational methodologies associated with health sciences courses are being reviewed and adapted. Pre-clinical sciences, such as anatomy and embryology are as well subjected to those changes. In human embryology courses it is common to use models to represent the different phases of development to facilitate learning, since the students can see and touch the models, obtaining knowledge by analogies. The present study aimed to survey students' opinions on the use of computer-aided classes for teaching anatomy. Thus, a questionnaire with closed questions was administered at the end of the Anatomy course to undergraduate dental students, which produced a total of 76 valid questionnaires. While studying this subject, the students accessed a room equipped with computers containing previously installed Anatomy programs. The analysis of the questionnaires showed that for most students the computer room considerably facilitates the study of Anatomy and potentially increases the comprehension of the lessons' goals, as well as being an extremely important aid in studying anatomy.
