VIABILIDADE FINANCEIRA E RISCOS ASSOCIADOS À INTEGRAÇÃO LAVOURA-PECUÁRIA NO ESTADO DO PARANÁ AgEcon
Lazzarotto, Joelsio Jose; Santos, Maurinho Luiz dos; Lima, Joao Eustaquio de.
The Brazilian agricultural sector is characterized by a great diversity of production systems subject to a wide number of risk factors. These risks cannot be completely eliminated, but they can be minimized by the adoption of some strategies, such as diversification of agricultural and livestock activities. In this light, a comparative analysis, under operational and market risk conditions, of the financial viability of integrated crop-livestock systems, in relation to systems characterized by grain exploitation or specialized in livestock (beef cattle), was done. The methodology included data on farming in Paraná state, especially the in area of Guarapuava. Long term financial indicators were generated: net present value, internal return rate and...

Sensory, morphometric and proximate analyses of Nile tilapia reared in ponds and net-cages R. Bras. Zootec.
Rocha,Danielly Nunes; Simões,Larissa Novaes; Paiva,Genilson; Gomes,Levy Carvalho.
The present study evaluated the sensory, proximate and morphometric differences of pond and net-cage-reared Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Thirty samples from ponds and 30 samples from net-cages were used. Morphometric measurements were performed in fish and the fillets; proximate composition of the fillets was determined; and sensory analysis of the meat was performed. The fish reared in ponds exhibited similar weights and larger measurements than those reared in net-cages. Fillet measurement and weight were similar for both rearing techniques. The proximate composition analysis of the fillets showed that there was less lipid deposition (12.6 g/kg) and higher moisture retention (792.6 g/kg) in fish reared in the ponds compared with those reared in...

Sustainable productive intensification for family farming in developing tropical countries Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Taveira,Luís Renato Silva; Carvalho,Teotonio Soares de; Teixeira,Anita Fernanda dos Santos; Curi,Nilton.
ABSTRACT In the past, agriculture was directed to satisfying human needs. Nowadays, it is directed to meeting the markets, forcing the peasantries to adapt to this condition. As a result, family farmers are multifaceted, incorporating both subsistence and market-oriented production. Traditional farming systems have been challenged since there is a pressure for the intensification of these systems. Then, it is important that scientific research about them goes on to recognize that many family farmers use limited resource bases. However, innovation and intensification are permanent needs of agriculture, although they must be adjusted to different contexts, respecting the cultural legacy of family farmers as a prerequisite for achieving the development.
