Tramas tróficas en sistemas frontales del Mar Argentino: estructura, dinámica y complejidad analizada mediante isótopos estables OceanDocs
Gaitán, E.N..
Two of the most important frontal systems of the Argentine Sea (SW Atlantic Ocean) were compared to obtain evidences on the regulatory mechanisms of food web length, incorporating both spatial (areas within fronts) and temporal (presence or absence of frontal structure) variability. The stable isotopes of Carbon and Nitrogen were used to evaluate the origin and composition of the organic matter used by primary consumers, the structure of food webs, the trophic levels of several taxa and the benthic-pelagic coupling within each system. In the Río de la Plata estuarine front, different sources of organic matter would support the food webs occurring in the three areas of the system. The particulate organic material (POM) would be the main resource supporting...

Estudio de las tramas tróficas asociadas a diferentes densidades de vieira Patagónica Zygochlamys patagonica del Atlántico SO mediante el uso de isótopos estables OceanDocs
Schwartz, M..
Zygochlamys patagonica (King and Broderip, 1832) is an ecosystem engineer mollusk which forms aggregations or banks, of different densities, in the main frontal systems of the SW Atlantic Ocean. The objectives of this work were to analyze the composition, biomass, diversity and species richness of the benthic invertebrate assemblages at different scallop densities as well as the variability of their trophic webs at high and low scallop densities. For this, samples of the benthic invertebrate assemblages were taken at the Shelf Break Front with a non-selective epibenthic dredge. It was evaluated if the abundance (ind/m2) or biomass (colonial species, gr/m2) of the different taxa varied with scallop densities. The results showed that from 14 analyzed, the...

Bidimensional transfer of effects among organisms: An overlooked concept in community ecology RChHN
RAMOS-JILIBERTO,RODRIGO; ARÁNGUIZ-ACUÑA,ADRIANA.
Although geneticists and population ecologist have considered in their explanations the importance of both horizontal -interspecific- and vertical -intraspecific- paths for the flow of information, energy or matter among organisms, community ecology and particularly network ecology have been strongly biased towards considering only horizontal effects. In this article our aim is to put on view of ecologists the concepts of vertical and horizontal transfer of disturbance effects in communities, and discuss the relevance of the interplay between both processes for ecological research. We support that incorporating this view into community ecology could be a promising new research avenue, and may improve our understanding about the responses of communities to...

FOOD WEB OF A TROPICAL HIGH MOUNTAIN STREAM: EFFECTS OF NUTRIENT ADDITION Acta biol.Colomb.
CASTRO-REBOLLEDO,MARÍA ISABEL; MUÑOZ-GRACIA,ISABEL; DONATO-RONDÓN,JOHN CHARLES.
In order to define the effect of nutrient enrichment on trophic webs in an Andean mountain stream we performed an experiment using stable isotope ratios (δ15N and δ13C) to analyze different trophic compartments: 1) basal level: CPOM and biofilm; 2) primary consumers - macroinvertebrates: collector-gatherers (Heterelmis sp., Thraulodes sp. and Trichorythodes sp.), and collectorfilterers (Simulium sp.); 3) predators - fish (Oncorhynchus mykiss and Trichomycterus bogotensis). The average fractionation of nitrogen among the primary consumers with respect to CPOM was 4.7 ‰, and 1.7 ‰ with respect to biofilm. Predators incremented their δ15N signal by 5.9 % with respect to primary consumers. A depletion of δ15N was observed in Impact with respect to Control...

Sandy beaches: state of the art of nematode ecology Anais da ABC (AABC)
MARIA,TATIANA F.; VANAVERBEKE,JAN; VANREUSEL,ANN; ESTEVES,ANDRÉ M..
ABSTRACT In this review, we summarize existing knowledge of the ecology of sandy-beach nematodes, in relation to spatial distribution, food webs, pollution and climate change. We attempt to discuss spatial scale patterns (macro-, meso- and microscale) according to their degree of importance in structuring sandy-beach nematode assemblages. This review will provide a substantial background on current knowledge of sandy-beach nematodes, and can be used as a starting point to delineate further investigations in this field. Over decades, sandy beaches have been the scene of studies focusing on community and population ecology, both related to morphodynamic models. The combination of physical factors (e.g. grain size, tidal exposure) and biological interactions...
