LATENCIA DEL HERPESVIRUS BOVINO-1: EL PAPEL DE LOS TRANSCRITOS RELACIONADOS CON LATENCIA (RL) Acta biol.Colomb.

Blume,G.R.; Cardoso,S.P.; Oliveira,M.L.B.; Matiolli,M.P.; Gómez,S.Y.M.; Reis Júnior,J.L.; Sant'Ana,F.J.F.; Martins,N.R.S..
ABSTRACT Marek's disease (MD) is a lymphoproliferative disorder caused by Gallid herpesvirus 2 (MDV) that infects mainly domestic gallinaceous birds although wild birds may occasionally be affected. The current report describes the anatomopathological and molecular findings of a case of MD in a white-peafowl (Pavo cristatus). The signs included apathy, hyporexia, and diarrhea. Grossly, 0.5 to 1.5cm in diameter, yellow, soft nodules were observed in the skeletal muscle, lung, kidney, air sacs, small intestine, heart, ovary, ventriculus, and proventriculus. Microscopically, numerous atypical round neoplastic cells were noted. The molecular detection of MDV DNA was implemented to amplify part of the meq gene and products were sequenced for the phylogenetic...

Use of an ELISA system for detection of equine herpesvirus 1 (EHV-1) antibodies in non-symptomatic pregnant mares and neonatal foals Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Carvalho,R.; Passos,L.M.F.; Gouvea,A.M.G.; Resende,M.; Martins,A.S.; Franco,G.C..
An ELISA system was applied to study the prevalence of EHV-1 in vaccinated and non-vaccinated Brazilian horses. Serum samples were taken from non-symptomatic pregnant mares, before and after the parturition, and from their neonatal foals. The antigen was prepared from a purified virus fraction (HVE-1 AB1 strain). The ELISA absorbance of 0.3516 was determined as the threshold of negative values. This cut-off level was defined from a selected interval, which determined a sensibility of 100% and a specificity of 94.7%, from a serum collection obtained from pregnant mares and fetuses. In this study, a strong correlation was found between the ELISA and serum neutralization for specific EHV-1 antibody detection.

Silva,Débora Scopel e; Castro,Clarissa Caetano de; Silva,Fábio da Silva e; Sant'anna,Voltaire; Vargas,Gilberto D'Avila; Lima,Marcelo de; Fischer,Geferson; Brandelli,Adriano; Motta,Amanda de Souza da; Hübner,Silvia de Oliveira.
P34 is an antimicrobial peptide produced by a Bacillus sp. strain isolated from the intestinal contents of a fish in the Brazilian Amazon basin with reported antibacterial activity. The aim of this work was to evaluate the peptide P34 for its in vitro antiviral properties against canine adenovirus type 2 (CAV-2), canine coronavirus (CCoV), canine distemper virus (CDV), canine parvovirus type 2 (CPV-2), equine arteritis virus (EAV), equine influenza virus (EIV), feline calicivirus (FCV) and feline herpesvirus type 1 (FHV-1). The results showed that the peptide P34 exhibited antiviral activity against EAV and FHV-1. The peptide P34 inhibited the replication of EAV by 99.9% and FHV-1 by 94.4%. Virucidal activity was detected only against EAV. When P34 and EAV...

Inhibition of DNA virus: Herpes-1 (HSV-1) in cellular culture replication, through an antioxidant treatment extracted from rosemary spice BJPS
Mancini,Dalva Assunção Portari; Torres,Rosângela Pavan; Pinto,José Ricardo; Mancini-Filho,Jorge.
This work aimed to evaluate antiviral properties in antioxidants from spices. Phenolic compounds extracted from rosemary (Rosmarinus officinallis, L) by hot water, had their antioxidant activity determined by spectrophotometry using β carotene/linoleic acid system. The rosemary extract was evaluated by antiviral assay of Herpes Virus type-1 (HSV-1) replication in VERO cells, in the presence or absence of the spice. 10,000 TCID50/mL of the HSV-1 was kept for 3 h at 4º C, with 300 ppm of rosemary extract, and 100 ppm of butyl hydroxyl toluene (BHT). Then, these viruses were inoculated in VERO cells incubated at 37º C in CO2-5 %, for seven days. Daily, they were examined and the end point was based on 100% of CPE in virus control (without antioxidants). The...

Activity of the antimicrobial peptide P34 against bovine alphaherpesvirus type 1 Ciência Rural
Castro,Clarissa Caetano de; Silva,Débora Scopel e; Costa,Géssica Aracéli; Fischer,Geferson; Vargas,Gilberto D’Avila; Brandelli,Adriano; Lima,Marcelo de; Motta,Amanda de Souza da; Hübner,Silvia de Oliveira.
ABSTRACT: Previous studies have demonstrated the antimicrobial activity of the peptide P34. In this study, the antiviral potential of P34 and the in vitro mechanism of action were investigated against bovine alphaherpesvirus type 1 (BoHV1). P34 exhibited low toxicity, a high selectivity index (22.9) and a percentage of inhibition of up to 100% in MDBK cells. Results from antiviral assays indicated that P34 did not interact with cell receptors, but it was able to inhibit the viral penetration immediately after pre-adsorption. In addition, BoHV1 growth curve in MDBK cells in the presence of P34 revealed a significant reduction in virus titer only 8h post-infection, also suggesting an important role at late stages of the replicative cycle. Virucidal effect...

Transcriptomic analysis of differential gene expression reveals an increase in COX2 levels during in vitro canine herpesvirus infection Ciência Rural
Kurissio,Jacqueline Kazue; Araújo Júnior,João Pessoa.
ABSTRACT: Canine herpesvirus (CaHV-1) affects canids worldwide, causing death in neonates and immunosuppressed hosts. Acute infection by CaHV-1 can cause reproductive, respiratory, and neurological problems in adult animals. Viral pathogenesis and host genes expressions during of CaHV-1infection are not clearly understood. In the present study, the transcriptome of canine kidney cell Mardin-Darby (MDCK) infected in vitro with canine herpesvirus was explored. For this, RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) of the samples in different moments during infection was carried out. Subsequently, the transcriptomic analysis genes related to cell activities and process involved to viral cycle infection were evaluated until 32h post-inoculation (pi). Among evaluated genes, was...
