EL PAPEL DEL ADMINISTRADOR DE AGRONEGOCIOS EN LA SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA AgEcon
Guerra E., Guillermo A.; Aguilar Valdes, Alfredo; Cabral Martell, Agustin; Alvarado Martinez, Luis Felipe; Alvarado Martinez, Tomas Everardo; Arras Vota, Ana Maria; Moreno Medina, Salomon.
For decades, food security has been a worldwide problem affecting the poorest in order to find a possible solution to this dilemma that not only continues, but constantly grows with the increase in population. Agriculture, as the main food supplier, has evolved and increased its productivity, and has expanded its agricultural frontiers, since previous decades, in its attempts to solve this problem. If predominant conventional agriculture (mainly dedicated to productivity) is complemented with substantial increase of transgenic, organic, agroecological, greenhouse and hydroponic crops, it will be more feasible to avoid the loss of forest, the damage and loss of soils and at the same time diminish food insecurity. Within this context, the agribusiness...

Salinity and flow rates of nutrient solution on cauliflower biometrics in NFT hydroponic system AGRIAMBI
Soares,Hammady R. e; Silva,Ênio F. de F. e; Silva,Gerônimo F. da; Cruz,Adiel F. da S.; Santos Júnior,José A.; Rolim,Mário M..
ABSTRACT The use of brackish water in hydroponic crops represents an alternative for vegetable production. In this context, two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of using brackish water to prepare the nutrient solution and replace the evapotranspired depth, applied at different flow rates, on cauliflower biometrics in NFT (nutrient film technique) hydroponic system. In both experiments, the experimental design was completely randomized with four repetitions, in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme: six levels of water electrical conductivity (ECw) in interaction with two flow rates of nutrient solution application in the hydroponic channels (1.5 and 2.5 L min-1). In Experiment I, brackish waters with different EC (1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 dS m-1),...

Stress index, water potentials and leaf succulence in cauliflower cultivated hydroponically with brackish water AGRIAMBI
Cruz,Adiel F. da S.; Silva,Gerônimo F. da; Silva,Ênio F. de F. e; Soares,Hammady R. e; Santos,Jenyffer da S. G.; Lira,Raquele M. de.
ABSTRACT The tolerance of crops to salinity is greater in hydroponic systems due to the low contribution of the matric potential to the total potential of the water. The objective of this study was to evaluate the use of brackish water, to prepare the nutrient solution and replace the evapotranspired volume, and rates of application of this solution on the water stress index, water potential, leaf succulence and water consumption of cauliflower cv. ‘Piracicaba Precoce’. The experimental design was completely randomized in a 6 x 2 factorial scheme, with six salinity levels used to prepare the nutrient solutions (0.2, 1.5, 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 and 5.5 dS m-1) and two application rates of these solutions (1.5 and 2.5 L min-1), with four replicates. Water stress...

Characterization of the effects of macronutrient deficiencies in mangabeira seedlings Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Bessa,Layara Alexandre; Silva,Fabiano Guimarães; Moreira,Marialva Alvarenga; Teodoro,João Paulo Ribeiro; Soares,Frederico Antônio Loureiro.
Knowledge of the mineral nutrition requirements of mangabeira (Hancornia speciosa Gomes) is relatively scarce and rudimentary because there is a lack of consistent data concerning its nutritional demands at different developmental stages. The aim of this research was to characterize the visual symptoms of macronutrient deficiencies and to evaluate the effects of these deficiencies on the growth, the production of dry matter, and the leaf content of mangabeira. To achieve this goal, a greenhouse experiment was conducted at the Goiano Federal Institute (Instituto Federal Goiano) in Rio Verde - GO, from January to June 2011 in which mangabeira plants were arranged in a random block design and grown in nutrient solutions. This experiment was replicated four...

Cadmium effect on the association of jackbean (Canavalia ensiformis) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi Scientia Agricola
Andrade,Sara Adrián López de; Jorge,Renato Atílio; Silveira,Adriana Parada Dias da.
The effect of cadmium (Cd) on mycorrhizal association and on shoot and root Cd concentration was investigated in jackbean plants under hydroponic conditions. The treatments consisted of the inoculation of three different species of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Glomus etunicatum, G. intraradices and G. macrocarpum, and a non-inoculated control, two Cd (0 and 5 µmol L-1) and two P (1 and 10 mg L-1) levels in the nutrient solution. Mycorrhizal colonization, length of AMF extraradical mycelium, guaiacol peroxidase activity in roots, plant growth and root and shoot Cd and P concentrations were determined. Mycorrhizal status did not promote jackbean growth but in most of the cases mycorrhization increased root and shoot Cd concentrations. Cd ions were...

Silva,Daiana Alves da; Esteves,José Antônio de Fátima; Messias,Ueliton; Teixeira,Aurélio; Gonçalves,João Guilherme Ribeiro; Chiorato,Alisson Fernando; Carbonell,Sérgio Augusto Morais.
Common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is frequently grown in weathered soils with low phosphorus (P) availability, and this is one of the main limitations on its production. This study aimed to assess 20 common bean genotypes in a hydroponic system to select the best P concentration for inducing nutritional deficiency and to classify the genotypes in terms of nutrient utilization efficiency. The concentrations of P applied were 8.00, 4.00, 2.00 and 0.05 mg L¹. At 21 days, in the plot subjected to an application of the most severe stress, the 0.05 mg L¹ dose of P, had smaller plant size and early leaf abscission was observed. The 4.00 mg L¹ dose of P was the most efficient in inducing stress for discrimination of cultivars in terms of efficiency of use of P....

Plant bioassays to assess toxicity of textile sludge compost Scientia Agricola
Araújo,Ademir Sérgio Ferreira; Monteiro,Regina Teresa Rosim.
Composting of industrial wastes is increasing because of recycling requirements set on organic wastes. The evaluation of toxicity of these wastes by biological testing is therefore extremely important for screening the suitability of waste for land application. The toxicity of a textile sludge compost was investigated using seed germination and plant growth bioassays using soybean and wheat. Compost samples were mixed with water (seed germination bioassay) or nutrient solution (plant growth bioassay) at concentrations of 0, 19, 38, 76 and 152 g L-1. No negative effects were observed after five days of compost water-extract in relation to soybean and wheat seed germination. After fifteen days, under a hydroponics system, plant growth had harmful effects of...
