Innovation in the food and agriculture sector is frequently short-circuited by a lack of trust and communication between actors in the market chain. To overcome these problems and stimulate innovation, the Participatory Market Chain Approach (PMCA) brings together small farmers, market agents, and service providers for an intense process of facilitated interaction. The PMCA uses a flexible three-stage participatory process to improve communication, build trust, and facilitate collaboration among participants so that they can jointly identify, analyze, and exploit new market opportunities. The PMCA focuses on innovation in products, technologies, and ways of working together. By carefully selecting market chains and partners, and building in social... |

Aquaticum Debrecen Thermal and Wellness Hotel is a very successful lodging property not only in Debrecen but also in the Northern Great Plain Region and in the Eastern part of Hungary and in point of fact in Hungary. In the past years Aquaticum Thermal and Wellness Hotel has been the leader in the region by revenue per available rooms (RevPAR). RevPAR indicates the overall performance of properties, accordingly it is the most commonly used statistical indicator in comparison to competitors in Hotel industry. In the past years, demand for Hotel rooms has changed. This changing has several signs. For instance the occupancy rate, the rate of domestic and foreign guests, the nationality of foreign guests, the time between booking and travelling, and many other... |

After reviewing trends in the production and marketing of fresh produce for the domestic market in Kenya since 1997, this paper presents detailed information on the structure of the flow of this produce from rural areas to wholesale markets in Nairobi and from those wholesale markets to assorted retail markets. Market shares are estimated by product for geographic areas supplying Nairobi, and for each important wholesale and retail market in the city. It is found that horticultural production for the domestic market is keeping up with rural population growth but not with the much faster urban population growth. The urban wholesaling and retailing system has decentralized dramatically and with little planning over the past two decades in response to lack of... |

A hazai abrakfogyasztó... |

It is commonly asserted that speculative buying by index funds in commodity futures and over–the–counter derivatives markets created a ‘‘bubble’’ in commodity prices, with the result that prices, and crude oil prices, in particular, far exceeded fundamental values at the peak. The purpose of this paper is to show that the bubble argument simply does not withstand close scrutiny. Four main points are explored. First, the arguments of bubble proponents are conceptually flawed and reflect fundamental and basic misunderstandings of how commodity futures markets actually work. Second, a number of facts about the situation in commodity markets are inconsistent with the existence of a substantial bubble in commodity prices. Third, available statistical evidence... |

This paper briefly outlines a topology of small farms and then considers the role of the government versus the market in key public policies such as commodity income support, environment, stability, research, and rural development. A number of options are explored for public policy to better serve small farms, including drastic alternatives such as graduated property taxes on farmland, with exemptions or lower rates for small farms. These and other alternatives are not necessarily recommended. Improved extension education and human resource development offer some of the most promising public policy opportunities to help small farmers. |

Az állattenyésztési ágazatok kilátásai nem biztatóak a tartósan magas takarmányárak, a vertikálisan kevésbé szervezett, a termékpálya szakaszai közötti laza kapcsolat miatt, ami a legfontosabb felvevőpiacok szervezetlenségére is visszavezethető. A magyarországi állattartók érdemben nem képesek befolyásolni sem a világpiacon, sem az Európai Unió piacán zajló folyamatokat, így kénytelenek a réspiacokat kitöltve alkalmazkodni. Különböző modellváltozataink szerint a szarvasmarha-állomány 680-731 ezer egyed, a tejelőtehén-állomány 266-269 ezer egyed között alakulhat 2013-ban. Továbbra is elsősorban a húshasznú egyedek számának növekedésére lehet számítani. A tejtermelés 2010-ben várhatóan kitölti a nemzeti kvótát. Tej- és tejtermék-kivitelben főként a... |

In recent years there has been a growth in the interest of consumers to buy more locally. An increasing number of farmers are trying to meet the growing demand for locally produced products. Here in New York State, farmers who are direct marketing their product, either direct to consumer or direct to wholesale markets constantly are looking for additional avenues to connect to current customers or grow their customer base. NY MarketMaker is one avenue farmers across New York can utilize to make connections with their customers. This powerhouse database connects buyers, sellers and transportation services and is easily searchable, even for the „technologically‟ challenged. Cornell Cooperative Extension (CUCE) in New York City began this project with the... |

This study analyzed the effects that the use of crop insurance products and marketing alternatives had on the gross revenue per acre for an individual farm in Cass County. Crop insurance products and marketing strategies were analyzed individually to determine if they were effective in minimizing down side risk, and combined to determine if integration created synergies. A whole farm scenario analysis was run that included integrated strategies that implemented the same insurance coverage and marketing alternatives for each crop. Several general conclusions can be drawn for situations similar to the representative farm. When analyzed at the individual crop level, the use of crop insurance at the 65 percent level minimizes down side risk in wheat and corn,... |

Many researches have been done concerning the study of parameters which make people choose or not such product on the market. Concerning food industry, scientists have been involved in the analysis of technical parameters (nutrition, health characteristics) and their perception by the consumer, and in the analysis of psycho-sociological parameters linked with the perception of the product, or emotion associated with food or its environment. Other parameters investigated are suspicion of novelties, adherence to technology or to natural food, enjoyment, necessity. But what about the effect of words from the socio-psycholinguistic standpoint? It seems to be poorly investigated. Some claims: “It doesn’t matter how important the brand name is to the company,... |

Occurrence of cattle disease known as Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) has caused great fluctuations in production and consumption of beef meat in the European Union. Croatia does not have enough cattle to meet demands of domestic market. However, there is not one case of BSE in cattle reported in Croatia to date. This fact can be used as an advantage on the beef meat market, presupposing that Croatia has implemented quality programs to increase number of cattle. Research results show that 70% of examinees consume beef at least once a week up to several times a month, and 70.5% have not reduced beef consumption after the disease occurred. |

This paper is aimed at relating income fluctuation with adoptable innovations, adopter category and their access to some variables than those explained in the neoclassical economics principle of labor market demand and supply equilibrium. Using a quantitative and qualitative case study of some farmers in two States, we considered whether respondents are earning enough income and what constraints they face. The von Hipple’s lead user concept and decision model of risk aversion under uncertainty were used to explain causes of variability. Notably, farmers with enough steady income have access to market, various information and are less risk averse. |

U.S. farmers and ranchers produce a wide variety of commodities for food, fuel, and fiber in response to market signals. Farms also contain significant amounts of natural resources that can provide a host of environmental services, including cleaner air and water, flood control, and improved wildlife habitat. Environmental services are often valued by society, but because they are a public good—that is, people can obtain them without paying for them—farmers and ranchers may not benefit financially from producing them. As a result, farmers and ranchers under-provide these services. This report explores the use of market mechanisms, such as emissions trading and eco-labels, to increase private investment in environmental stewardship. Such investments could... |
