Loyolanthidium gen. n. (type species: Anthidium apicale Cresson, 1878) is proposed to accommodate the western hemisphere species hitherto placed by the authors in Anthidiellum Cockerell, 1904. Three new species are described: Loyolanthidium bolivianum sp. n. (from Bolívia), Loyolanthidium azteca sp. n. and Loyolanthidium xilitlense sp. n. (both from México). The following nomenclatural changes are introduced: Loyolanthidium apicale (Cresson, 1878) comb. n. = Anthidium albopilosum Friese, 1910 syn. n. = Anthidium auricolle Friese, 1921 syn. n.; Loyolanthidium ehrhorni (Cockerell, 1900) comb, n.; Loyolanthidium gilense (Cockerell, 1897) comb, n.; Loyolanthidium notatum (Latreille, 1809) comb, n.; Loyolanthidium perplexum (Smith, 1854) comb, n.;... |

The subgenus Hoplostelis (Austrostelis), proposed by Michener and Griswold (1994), is here raised up to the genus levei: Austrostelis stat.n. The following nomenclatural changes are introduced: Austrostelis catamarcensis (Schrottky, 1909) comb.n. (= Dianthidium nudum Schrottky, 1909syn.n. = Ste/i4-a//e«aCockerell, 1919syn.n. = Stelis argentina Friese, 1925 syn.n. = Stelis magna Friese, 1925 syn.n.); Austrostelis iheringi (Schrottky, 1910) comb.n.; Austrostelis zebrala (Schrottky, 1905) comb.n. Lectotypes are designated for: Dianthidium catamarcense Schrottky, 1909, Dianthidium iheringi Schrottky, 1910, Dianthidium nudum Schrottky, 1909, and Dianthidium zebratum Schrottky, 1905. A key for species and illustrations are also provided. |

A comparative study of some characters as: the lenght of the mesepisternal carina (almost complete or short), the shape of the scutellum (flattened or bilobed), and only in the male: the shape of the distal terga and of the sterna (normal or with some sterna hidden) and the lenght of the basal articles of the flagellum (short or longer than their diameter) resulted in distinguishing Anthidulum from Dicranthidium as good genera separated from Hypanthidioides Moure. Seven new species are described: Anthidulum christinae, sp.n. from Muzo, Colômbia; Anthidulum mourei, sp.n. from Ponta Grossa, PR, Brasil; Anthidulum cavichiolii, sp.n. from Cáceres, MT, Brasil: Anthidulum zanolae, sp.n. from Araxá, MG, Brasil; Dicranthidium luciae, sp.n. from Maracás, BA,... |

Abstract The study investigated native solitary bee species that nest in pre-existing cavities in the Baturité Massif, State of Ceará, Brazil, their preference for nest substrates and aspects of these bee communities. Samples were taken in four distinct areas of the Baturité Massif using three types of trap-nests: dried bamboo internodes, cardboard tubes and rational boxes. Out of the 185 nests offered, 34 were colonized and 24 of them produced 131 bees, belonging to two families (Apidae and Megachilidae) and five genera (Centris, Mesocheira, Euglossa, Megachile and Coelioxys) from six species, including parasitic ones. Nesting preference was observed to certain types of substrates (χ²=17.89, p<0.001), with bamboo internodes being preferred by bee to... |
