Reproductive Response in Offspring Male Rats Exposed to Prenatal Stress and to Early Postnatal Stimulation International Journal of Morphology
Chen Cárdenas,S. M; Mayer,N; Romanini,M. C; Rolando,A. N; Liaudat,A. C; Brun,N; Vivas,A; Gauna,H. F; Rodríguez,N.
Stress in pregnant rats alters the pattern of secretion of corticosterone (COR) and modifies transplacentally hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) fetus. Prenatal stress during the critical hypothalamic differentiation is related to decreased fertility of male offspring by an increase in the basal level of COR. This modification could induce long-term changes in the process of apoptosis in the testis. However, early postnatal handling increases maternal behavior and could reverse the effects caused by increased secretion of COR. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of early postnatal stimulation of male rats prenatal stressed by chronic immobilization during the last two weeks of pregnancy, on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis...

Expression and Distribution of Kinin B2 Receptor in Medulla and Spinal Cord Tissues of Rats Treated with Capsaicin International Journal of Morphology
de França,Camilla Estevão; Guardabassi,Carla; Smith,Ricardo Luiz.
Kinins are vasoactive peptides that promote pain and inflammation, yet centrally believed to participate to cardiovascular defensive reflexes produced by noxious stimuli. These peptides signal through the activation of two transmembrane G-protein-coupled receptors named B1 and B2 receptors (B1R and B2R). The B2R is constitutive in healthy tissues and animals. The aim of the study was to measure the gene and protein expression of B2R kinin receptors in central and peripheral tissues isolated from control rats and rats were pre-treated with capsaicin on the second day of life (50 mg/kg, s.c.) or two weeks prior to sacrifice (125 mg/kg over three days, s.c.). The same treatment with saline was made in control animals. Levels of mRNA for B2R were measured by...

Histopathology of Organs from Neonate Offspring Born to Female Rats Exposed to Sublethal Doses of Biological and Synthetic Insecticides International Journal of Morphology
dos Santos,Hilda Michelly Paiva; Teixeira,Valéria Wanderley; Teixeira,Álvaro Aguiar Coelho; da Silva,Rosimere; Lemos,Ana Janaina Jeanine Martins; Neto,Clovis José Cavalcanti Lapa; Ferreira,Cintia Giselle Martins.
The current annual consumption of insecticides in agriculture in Brazil is over three million tons. The exposure happens through food that is contaminated with toxic waste and respiratory and dermal absorption. Biological control with Bacillus thuringiensis Berliner (Bt) has assumed increasing importance replacing the use of conventional insecticides. However, the tests used to justify approval for use and market release of Bt products, and the protocols used to assess the development of toxicity, are extremely superficial. In addition, more studies comparing effects between males and females and during pregnancy and lactation have not been conducted. Thus, the hypothesis tested in this study was if the administration of the XenTari® WG (Bacillus...

Morphometric and Anatomical Evaluation of the Heart of Wistar Rats International Journal of Morphology
de Carvalho,C. A. M; Thomazini,J. A.
The use of animals in scientific research is not recent. The rat has been used in experiments since before Christ and, in the XIX century, with the intensification of the research reports, the use of this species increased considerably. Although this fact happens, the literature regarding the heart of these animals is not very detailed and descriptive. The objective of this research is to study the macroscopic morphometric of several parameters that have not been described yet regarding the hearth of Wistar rats in different phases of their lives. Thirty-six adult male and female rats (Rattus norvegicus) weighing 150-770 g were randomly divided into 6 experimental groups: 6 animals of the group I male-weighting 150-249g (I-M); 6 animals of the group I...

Effects of Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807) (Scorpiones: Buthidae) venom on rat metabolism J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Ozkan,O.; Bakir,F.; Adiguzel,S..
Scorpions are venomous arthropods of the Arachnida class and are considered relatives of spiders, ticks and mites. There is not any study about the biochemical effects of Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807) venom. Therefore, in the present study, we aimed at evaluating the toxicity of the venom from A. crassicauda, which is responsible for a number of deaths of infants, children and adults in tropical and subtropical countries. For this purpose, rats (n=35) were divided into seven groups of five animals each; venom solutions (250µg/kg) were subcutaneously injected into rats; blood samples were taken from each animal at various times; and serum biochemical parameters were measured (levels of total proteins, total bilirubin, albumin, globulin, urea,...
