Vascular epiphytic flora of a high montane environment of Brazilian Atlantic Forest: composition and floristic relationships with other ombrophilous forests Acta Botanica
Furtado,Samyra Gomes; Menini Neto,Luiz.
ABSTRACT Only a few studies regarding vascular epiphytes have been conducted in mixed ombrophilous forests (MOF) in Serra da Mantiqueira, a mountainous environment in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, where the relationships of epiphytic flora with other physiognomies are unknown. This study aimed to survey the epiphytes of a MOF remnant located in Serra da Mantiqueira, and to analyze the floristic relationships with ombrophilous forests of the Southern and Southeastern regions of Brazil. The checklist was compared with 51 other areas composed of ombrophilous forests and/or ecotones with other physiognomies using UPGMA (with Sørensen index), and canonical correspondence analysis (CCA). We recorded 138 species, and Orchidaceae and Polypodiaceae were the...

Genetic diversity and population structure of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) accessions by means of microsatellites markers Agronomy
Zeni Neto, Hugo; Borsuk, Luiz Gustavo da Mata; Santos, Luiz Renato Frederico dos; Angeli, Henrique Sanches; Berton, Guilherme Souza; Sousa, Lorena Lopes de.
The success of sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) breeding programs depends on the choice of productive parent lines that have a high industrial yield and are genetically divergent. This study assessed the genetic divergence and population structure of sugarcane accessions that are the parents of the RB05 Series of the Sugarcane Breeding Program of Brazil. The DNA of 82 accessions was evaluated using 36 simple sequence repeat markers. The Jaccard similarity coefficient and Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean clustering method were used to generate a cluster that was divided into 17 distinct groups derived from probabilistic models. The similarity coefficient used in both cases showed that the degree of similarity varied from 0.4716 (RB971551 x...

YAMADA,FÁBIO H.; BONGIOVANI,MARCELA F.; YAMADA,PRISCILLA O.F.; SILVA,REINALDO J. DA.
ABSTRACT The degradation and homogenization of natural habitats is considered a major cause of biotic homogenization. Many studies have been undertaken on the effects of dams on aquatic wildlife, in particular fish assemblages. But how do dams affect the parasitic fauna of such fish? The aim of the present study was to examine parasitic similarity, comparing the diversity and structure of parasite communities of Leporinus friderici (Characiformes, Anostomidae) in three upstream tributaries under the influence of the Jurumirim Dam on the Upper Paranapanema River in southeastern Brazil. The present study did not find any significant differences in parasite communities among populations of L. friderici in the three upstream tributaries. This result highlights...

SOBOLESKI,VANESSA F.; HIGUCHI,PEDRO; SILVA,ANA CAROLINA DA; SILVA,MARIELE A.F. DA; NUNES,AMANDA S.; LOEBENS,RODINELI; SOUZA,KARINE DE; FERRARI,JHENIFFER; LIMA,CARLA L.; KILCA,RICARDO V..
ABSTRACT We aimed to investigate the taxonomic and functional variations of tree component of Araucaria Forest (AF) areas located along an altitudinal gradient (700, 900 and 1,600 m asl), in the southern region of Brazil. The functional traits determined were leaf area, specific leaf area, wood density, maximum potential height and dispersal syndromes and deciduousness. The data were analyzed through a functional and taxonomic dissimilarity dendrograms, community-weighted mean trait values, parametric and nonparametric tests, and Principal Component Analysis. The largest floristic-structural similarity was observed between the lower altitude areas (700 and 900 m asl), whose Bray-Curtis distance was 0.63. The area at 700 m asl was characterized by a...

Mixed thermal convection: fundamental issues and analysis of the planar case Anais da ABC (AABC)
PADET,JACQUES; COTTA,RENATO M.; MLADIN,EMILIA C.; PADET,COLETTE.
This paper aims to renew interest on mixed thermal convection research and to emphasize three issues that arise from the present analysis: (i) a clear definition of the reference temperature in the Boussinesq approximation; (ii) a practical delimitation of the three convective modes, which are the forced convection (FC), mixed convection (MC) and natural (or free) convection (NC); (iii) and, finally, a uniform description of the set FC/MC/NC in the similarity framework. The planar case, for which analytical solutions are available, allows a detailed illustration of the answers here advanced to the above issues.

Tree and shrub species of the Atlantic Forest on the slopes of Marambaia Island, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Nettesheim,Felipe Cito; Menezes,Luis Fernando Tavares de; Carvalho,Daniel Costa de; Conde,Marilena Menezes Silva; Somner,Genise Vieira; Rodrigues,Guilherme de Assis; Araujo,Dorothy Sue Dunn de.
This study describes the tree and shrub component of the Atlantic Forest on the slopes of Marambaia Island, RJ. It further evaluates which species are found at threatened species lists and the similarity that the studied forest component has with other nearby locations with similar vegetation. Data gathering relied on the joint effort of arbitrary walks and sampling units known as Transect. The same sampling criterion was applied at both approaches (DBH greater than or equal to 5 cm). A similarity analysis, followed by a Cluster analysis, was used to compare the studied vegetation component. Similarity calculations were based in the Bray-Curtis coefficient. We detected a total of 235 species. These are divided in 134 genera and 52 families. The richest...

Pollination and dispersal systems in a Cerrado remnant (Brazilian Savanna) in Southeastern Brazil BABT
Ishara,Katia Losano; Maimoni-Rodella,Rita de Cassia Sindrônia.
The aim of this work was to identify the pollination and dispersal systems among the species in a disjunct marginal cerrado area and to compare the frequency of these systems to those found in other Neotropical vegetation. The floral and diaspore traits and the pollination and dispersal systems of 176 species were analysed in a cerrado remnant in Southeastern Brazil. The most frequent pollination system was melittophily (63% of the studied species) with the remaining 37% distributed among diverse pollination systems. Zoochory was the predominant system of dispersal (44.9%). The frequencies of melittophily and zoochory observed in diverse tropical areas were the main feature that allowed the formation of distinct groups in the dendrograms generated by...
