Evaluation of grain sorghum hybrids for aluminum tolerance in nutrient solution Agronomy
Menezes, Cicero Beserra de; Lima, Geisiane Matos; Marucci, Rosangela Cristina; Bernardino, Karine Costa; Santos, Crislene Vieira dos; Julio, Marcos Paulo Mingote; Schaffert, Robert Eugene.
Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) is one of the most important cereal crops in the world. In Brazil, the acreage of grain sorghum during off-season is quite expansive. Most of this area is the Cerrado, a Brazilian biome that is similar to a Savannah and is characterized by high acidity and soluble aluminum at toxic levels for plants. The aluminum acts as a limiting factor in achieving high yields. The purpose of this work was to phenotype sorghum hybrids for aluminum tolerance. Eighteen hybrids were evaluated in a nutrient solution containing {0} or {27} µM Al3+. The work was carried out in a growth chamber at the Embrapa Maize and Sorghum, from April 4 to May 30, 2014. The lines ATF 13B (susceptible) and ATF 14B (tolerant) were used as check cultivars....

Application of lime, phosphogypsum and fertilization rates affect soil fertility and common bean development in no-tillage system in a Cerrado Oxisol Agronomy
Carvalho, Maria da Conceição Santana; Nascente, Adriano Stephan.
There is a lack of information about the effects of interactions among lime, phosphogypsum (PG) and fertilization on soil fertility and their effects on common bean yields in the tropics. This study aimed to determine the effects of annual application of PG and limestone and rates of fertilization on the chemical attributes of soil, fertilization efficiency, yield components and the grain yield of the common bean. The study was performed for three growing seasons in an acidic Oxisol. The experimental design was randomized blocks in a 4x4 factorial scheme. The treatments consisted of lime, lime + PG, PG, and control (without corrective application) with four fertilization rates. In an acidic and low-fertility Cerrado soil, limestone or limestone + PG...

Alterações em atributos químicos do solo pela aplicação de calcário na superfície ou incorporado - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v30i2.1738 Agronomy
Freiria, André Costa; UNESP; Mantovani, José Ricardo; Universidade José do Rosario vellano; Ferreira, Manoel Evaristo; UNESP; Cruz, Mara Cristina Pessôa da; UNESP; Yagi, Renato; UNESP.

Surface and incorporated liming effects on clay dispersion, water availability, and aeration capacity of a Dystrudept soil Bragantia
Auler,André Carlos; Pires,Luiz Fernando; Caires,Eduardo Fávero.
ABSTRACT Liming represents a management procedure that can affect the soil structure and its thermodynamic processes. In this context, the aims of this study were to assess (i) the effects of the surface and incorporated liming on the clay dispersion, soil water availability, and aeration capacity; (ii) the influence of soil chemical alterations in its physical attributes. For this, a field experiment was installed in a family farming property, located in the southeastern region of the State of Paraná, in a Dystrudept soil. The treatments were 3 application modes (on the surface, incorporated via plowing and incorporated via subsoiling and harrowing), with and without 15 Mg∙ha–1 of lime, aiming to increase the base saturation in the topsoil (0 – 0.20 m) to...

Characterization of the solid residue generated in the detoxification step of sugarcane bagasse hemicellulosic hydrolysate and behavior in agricultural soils Bragantia
Godoi,Isamara; Felipe,Maria das Graças de Almeida; Silva,Débora Danielle Virgínio; Leonel,Lilian Vieira; Costa,Mônica Sarolli Silva de Mendonça; Sene,Luciane.
ABSTRACT Overliming is an effective way of neutralizing and reducing the toxicity of the hydrolysates generated from acidic pretreatment of lignocellulosic biomass for ethanol production and others biotechnological products. Overliming generates a solid residue whose inadequate disposal may represent an environmental problem. This work aimed at the chemical characterization of the solid residue generated during the detoxification of the sugarcane bagasse hemicellulosic hydrolysate and evaluation of its behavior in soil. The solid residue was submitted to physicochemical and granulometric analysis and determination of the contents of sugars, metals and toxic compounds (acetic acid, furfural, hydroxymethylfurfural and phenols). The potential of the residue...

Morphological alterations of corn (Zea mays L.) plants in response to aluminum toxicity in the soil BABT
Souza,José Roberto Pinto de; Guimarães,Maria Fátima de; Muller,Marcelo Marques Lopes; Santos,Carlos Henrique dos.
The objective of the experiment was to identify the morphological alterations in corn genotypes in response to aluminum toxicity in the soil. A complete randomized block design with five replications was used. The a factorial scheme was composed of two corn genotypes (C525M - tolerant, and HS701B - sensitive) and two neutralization levels (0% and 100% of aluminum saturation). The evaluations were performed at six leaf and 10-11 leaf growth stages, emergence of the "stigma-style", and the physiological maturity. The presence of toxic aluminum didn’t significantly reduce diameter and height of stem, leaf area, dry matter of aerial parts, total dry matter and yield. Stem diameter, leaf area, dry matter of root, dry matter of aerial parts, total dry matter and...
