Yellow Passion fruit performance in organic crop under mulch Rev. Bras. Frutic.
Uchôa,Thays Lemos; Araújo Neto,Sebastião Elviro de; Selhorst,Pablo Oliveira; Rodrigues,Maria Júlia da Silva; Galvão,Robson de Oliveira.
Abstract The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of mulch on clay loam and sandy loam soils on the start harvest, number of fruits per plant, yield and quality of yellow passion fruits in organic crop. A complete randomized block design with five treatments and four replicates of five plants each was used. Treatments corresponded to different percentages of mulch of the area occupied by the plant (3 x 3 m), extending from the center of the planting line to the planting row in 0% without mulch (T1); 25% (T2); 50% (T3); 75% (T4) and 100% (T5). Mulch anticipated the harvest in comparison to crop in uncovered soil in both types of soil. The number of fruits per plant and yield increased in a quadratic function with maximum point of 38.6 fruits plant-1...

EXACT EQUATIONS FOR SOIL PARTICLE-SIZE ANALYSIS BY GAMMA-RAY ATTENUATION Scientia Agricola
Elias,Elimoel Abraão; Bacchi,Osny Oliveira Santos; Reichardt,Klaus.
Soil particle-size analysis by gamma-ray attenuation was first suggested in 1992 and improved in 1997 by diminishing the measurement time and adapting it for automation. It is here demonstrated that when the mass attenuation coefficient <FONT FACE="Symbol">m</font>w and the density Dw are replaced by <FONT FACE="Symbol">m</font>s and Ds (where the subscripts w and s stand for water and solution) in the approximate equations used to estimate the concentration of suspended particles, they become exact. The demonstration is based by treating the dispersant and water solution as one single medium, instead of treating them as two media. In this way, six variables are reduced to only three. Physical considerations suggest that the...

The effect of different soil properties on arbuscular mycorrhizal colonization of peanuts, sorghum and maize Acta Botanica
Carrenho,Rosilaine; Trufem,Sandra Farto Botelho; Bononi,Vera Lúcia Ramos; Silva,Eraldo Schunk.
Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are important for plant growth since they increase mineral influx. However, symbiosis efficiency is affected by many environmental factors. This study evaluated the effects of different treatments (+/- phosphorus; +/- liming; +/- organic matter; field, sandy or clayey soil textures) on root colonization (RC) of peanuts, sorghum and maize. The combination of these resulted in seventy-two treatments. The 2×2×2×3×3 factorial experiment was laid out in a randomized design. All data were subjected to variance analysis and the means were compared (Tukey at P<0.05). Three months after seed germination, roots were collected to evaluate the percentage of RC. Results showed that soil texture and liming were the most important...

Estimation of infiltration rate of a paddy growing area in a micro watershed of Sikkim, India CIGR Journal
Patle, G T.
This study aimed to estimate the constant infiltration rates from paddy growing area of a micro watershed located in the hilly state of Sikkim, India. Double ring infiltometer test was used for the field measurement of infiltration rates. The observed infiltration rates were compared with predicted values obtained by Horton, Philip, Kostiokov and Green-Ampt infiltration models. The suitability analysis of models was checked through statistical tools namely coefficient of determination and standard error and the best model was identified for the paddy fields of hill topography. The soil samples were collected for the estimation of soil moisture content, bulk density and soil texture analysis. Soil texture was sandy loam to loamy sand within the micro...

USLE/RUSLE K-factors allocated through a linear mixed model for Uruguayan soils Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Beretta-Blanco,Andrés; Carrasco-Letelier,Leonidas.
Soil erosion by rainfall is a process that demands management, both for the prevention of excessive soil erosion and for the protection of the quality of freshwater bodies. Erosion coefficients (K-factors) of the universal soil loss equation (USLE)/revised USLE (RUSLE) model were assigned to 99 mapped Uruguayan soil types at 1:1,000,000 scale. This work developed a linear mixed model (LMM) with 79 soils with assigned K-factors, in which the following variables were considered: soil taxonomy, chemical composition, and parent material. The developed LMM had an R²=0.86, in which the soil taxonomy (p<0.0001), parent material (p=0.0174), clay (p=0.0005) and sand (p=0.017) contents had significant statistical effects. The prediction capacity of this model was...

Adjustment of the expedite method for clay content determination in Rondônia soils Ciência Rural
Schlindwein,Jairo André; Miotti,Alan Antonio; Fioreli-Perira,Elaine Cosma; Pequeno,Petrus Luiz de Luna; Bortolon,Leandro; Marcolan,Alaerto Luiz.
Soil clay content is an important soil attribute and has been used to classification of phosphorus status in the soil in order to determinate the needing of phosphorus amounts to be applied to crops production. The aim of this research was to adjust the method for soil clay content determination, adopted by the laboratories of Southern Brazil (ROLAS-RS/SC), for soil clay content evaluation in Rondônia soils. The study was conducted using 50 soil samples from Rondônia State with wide range clay content. It was tested shaking periods (1.5, 2.0 and 2.5h) associated with periods for soil particles decantation (1.5 and 2.0h) to correlate with the standard method for soil texture testing, known as the pipette method. Clay content determined through this method...

Correcting field determination of elemental contents in soils via portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometry Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Dijair,Thaís Santos Branco; Silva,Fernanda Magno; Teixeira,Anita Fernanda dos Santos; Silva,Sérgio Henrique Godinho; Guilherme,Luiz Roberto Guimarães; Curi,Nilton.
ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been useful worldwide for determining soil elemental content under both field and laboratory conditions. However, the field results are influenced by several factors, including soil moisture (M), soil texture (T) and soil organic matter (SOM). Thus, the objective of this work was to create linear mathematical models for conversion of Al2O3, CaO, Fe, K2O, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr contents obtained by pXRF directly in field to those obtained under laboratory conditions, i.e., in air-dried fine earth (ADFE), using M, T and SOM as auxiliary variables, since they influence pXRF results. pXRF analyses in field were performed on 12 soil profiles with different parent materials. From them, 59 samples were...
