This study aimed to estimate the constant infiltration rates from paddy growing area of a micro watershed located in the hilly state of Sikkim, India. Double ring infiltometer test was used for the field measurement of infiltration rates. The observed infiltration rates were compared with predicted values obtained by Horton, Philip, Kostiokov and Green-Ampt infiltration models. The suitability analysis of models was checked through statistical tools namely coefficient of determination and standard error and the best model was identified for the paddy fields of hill topography. The soil samples were collected for the estimation of soil moisture content, bulk density and soil texture analysis. Soil texture was sandy loam to loamy sand within the micro... |

Soil erosion by rainfall is a process that demands management, both for the prevention of excessive soil erosion and for the protection of the quality of freshwater bodies. Erosion coefficients (K-factors) of the universal soil loss equation (USLE)/revised USLE (RUSLE) model were assigned to 99 mapped Uruguayan soil types at 1:1,000,000 scale. This work developed a linear mixed model (LMM) with 79 soils with assigned K-factors, in which the following variables were considered: soil taxonomy, chemical composition, and parent material. The developed LMM had an R²=0.86, in which the soil taxonomy (p<0.0001), parent material (p=0.0174), clay (p=0.0005) and sand (p=0.017) contents had significant statistical effects. The prediction capacity of this model was... |

Soil clay content is an important soil attribute and has been used to classification of phosphorus status in the soil in order to determinate the needing of phosphorus amounts to be applied to crops production. The aim of this research was to adjust the method for soil clay content determination, adopted by the laboratories of Southern Brazil (ROLAS-RS/SC), for soil clay content evaluation in Rondônia soils. The study was conducted using 50 soil samples from Rondônia State with wide range clay content. It was tested shaking periods (1.5, 2.0 and 2.5h) associated with periods for soil particles decantation (1.5 and 2.0h) to correlate with the standard method for soil texture testing, known as the pipette method. Clay content determined through this method... |

ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been useful worldwide for determining soil elemental content under both field and laboratory conditions. However, the field results are influenced by several factors, including soil moisture (M), soil texture (T) and soil organic matter (SOM). Thus, the objective of this work was to create linear mathematical models for conversion of Al2O3, CaO, Fe, K2O, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr contents obtained by pXRF directly in field to those obtained under laboratory conditions, i.e., in air-dried fine earth (ADFE), using M, T and SOM as auxiliary variables, since they influence pXRF results. pXRF analyses in field were performed on 12 soil profiles with different parent materials. From them, 59 samples were... |
