| A 3-year survey was made of several biological markers in mussels (Mytilus edulis) exposed in situ to the oil that came ashore after the wreck of the "Erika" tanker on the Brittany (France) coast in December 1999. The mussel response was assessed using a set of 7 biomarkers, most of them related to the metabolism of organic contaminants. After a series of validation tests, data was evaluated for only 5 biomarkers: acety1cholinesterase (AChE), glutathione S-transferase (GST), catalase (CAT), malondialdehyde (MDA) and deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) adducts. | Depuis une vingtaine d'années, l'Ifremer organise des campagnes de pêche scientifique en mer du Nord, Manche, Atlantique et Méditerranée concernant les ressources pélagiques, démersales et benthiques. L'objectif prioritaire est de produire des indices d'abondance des principales espèces commerciales. Elles recueillent également des données sur les espèces capturées non commerciales. Les campagnes sont réalisées selon des plans d'échantillonnage standardisés. L'engin de pêche et son gréement, la position des stations, le tri des captures, les prélèvements biologiques suivent des protocoles fixés. | Bivalves are important components of benthic marine and freshwater ecosystems throughout the world. One of the most exploited bivalves used for human consumption is manila clam (Venerupis philippinarum). In Arcachon Bay (SW France), commercial fishers and scientists have developed a monitoring survey to estimate clam stocks to assist in implementing a sustainable management strategy. | Une évaluation du gisement d'oursins du golfe du Morbihan a été réalisée en 2008.Six stations ont été échantillonnées : Stibiden, Roc'h Vihan, Port Blanc, Kerners, Hent tenn et Brannec, une station de plus que les années précédentes Pour les cinq stations communes à 2007 et 2008 l'augmentation de la population d'oursins est de 5 % en global et de 25% pour les individus commerciaux. Les densités totales varient entre 87 et 136 individus pour 100 m2 et les densités commerciales entre 56 et 87 oursins pour 100m2. La densité maximale d'oursins commerciaux a été observée à Port blanc. Les tailles des oursins s'échelonnent entre 22mm et 88mm. 63% des oursins échantillonnés avaient une taille supérieure à la taille de première commercialisation, soit 55mm. |

| Nutrients levels of marine water along the North of France coastline are growing-up. They have a good chance to become a problem in the future. Since 1992, a network of three radial lines is sampled at regular interval to supervise on long term : 1. Parameters levels that show the environment quality (temperature, salinity, turbidity,total suspended matters, organic suspended matters, chlorophyll, phaeopigments, phytoplankton). 2. Nutrients concentrations ( ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, phosphate, silicate) that enrich the environment , and may be responsable of its deterioration. The report shows the results of the first three years survey. I t strikes a correlation between the tested parameters and takes stock of the present situation. |

| lfremer carries out a yearly bottom trawl survey named Channel Ground Fish Survey (CGFS) in order to collect essential biological data on major exploited fish species in the Eastern Channel. These data are also provided to feed the indispensable historie series to the yearly assessment of resources. This report presents results of the CGFS surveys for 1997 and 1998, under two aspects: a multispecific approach of the biological assemblages and integrating an interannual analysis, then a monospecific analysis of 7 species of commercial interest, as whiting, pout, cod, red gurnard, plaice, black bream, red mullet. | The french fishery of anchovy is divided in two groups defined by gears : purse seine and pelagic trawl. The average length of these vessels is about 20m. This fleet is very opportunistic : all trawlers are using several trawls during the year, to catch sometimes bass, tuna, hake, or scampi, and purse seine are mainly fishing sardine. Each year, the main anchovy catches are provided by pair trawlers. Purse seiners operate often in coastal areas (<10 nautical miles); trawlers may operate until 50 nautical miles offshore but are banned inside the three miles coastal zone. The pair trawlers may operate from Basque country to western Channel according to fish availability. Purse seiners usually stay around their home harbour. |

| The research programme developed within in the framework of the project study of the Paluel site allowed us to highlight, near the drainage channel of the Durdent, a sea trout fishery using fixed nets in the area of the swaying of the tides. This activity, very much in use in the eastern English Channel and along the southern shoreline of the North Sea, not only for catching certain amphibiotic species but also species that are strictly of the sea, represents a sizeable cause of the mortality rate for salmonid populations during their coastal migrations.
