Taxonomic identity and lectotype designation of Falco Reinwardtii Schlegel & Müller, 1841; Buteo capensis Temminck & Schlegel, 1844; Ptilopus humeralis iobiensis Schlegel, 1873 and Hirundo rufula Temminck, 1835 Naturalis
Quaisser, C.; Dekker, R.W.R.J..
The composite nature of four type series of bird taxa in the collection of the National Museum of Natural History, Naturalis, Leiden requires the selection of lectotypes, which will contribute to taxonomic stability. Appropriate specimens are duly designated: RMNH 87171 for Falco (Lophotes) Reinwardtii Schlegel & Müller, 1841)^RMNH 87194 for Buteo capensis Temminck & Schlegel, 1844^RMNH 87792 for Ptilopus humeralis iobiensis Schlegel, 1873 and RMNH 88907 for Hirundo rufula Temminck, 1835.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 15. Nomenclatural issues concerning the common sand martin Riparia riparia (Linnaeus, 1758) and the pale sand martin R. diluta (Sharpe & Wyatt, 1893), with a new synonymy Naturalis
Loskot, V.M.; Dickinson, E.C..
A female of Riparia diluta in the ZISP collection and collected by Severtsov, which has sometimes been supposed to belong to the type series, is found to be this species but not the same subspecies and only a topotype. We designate a lectotype for R. diluta as Severtsov’s material was composite. Names introduced by Zarudny (1916) are evaluated and the synonymy of these two species is corrected to take into account the findings of both Zarudny and later workers.

Details on this specimen are provided.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 8. The types of Turdinus kalulongae Sharpe, 1893, a synonym of Malacopteron magnirostre cinereocapillum (Salvadori, 1868) Naturalis
Dickinson, E.C..
Two types of Turdinus kalulongae Sharpe, 1893, exist. The specimen at Tring is a lectotype, not a holotype as listed. The designation was indirect but consistent with the Rules of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature. The case well illustrates the preciseness of the applicability of the Rules in action.

Revision of the European species of Torymus Dalman (Hymenoptera: Torymidae) Naturalis
Vere, M.W.R. de; Gijswijt, M.J..
In this revision the generic synonymy as proposed by Grissell (1976, 1995) is followed. The genus Diomorus Walker is here synonymised with Torymus as well, so that the tribe Torymini (sensu Grissell) includes only one genus in the West Palaearctic region. In Torymus, 154 species are recognised, 38 of which are here described as new. The existing types of nearly all names have been examined and 272 synonyms, 67 of them new, are listed. The genus is subdivided in 13 species groups, five species standing apart as species solae. Keys to the species groups, females and more distinctive males are presented.

Systematic notes on Asian birds. 61. New data on taxonomy and nomenclature of the Common Sand Martin Riparia riparia (Linnaeus, 1758) and the Pale Sand Martin R. diluta (Sharpe & Wyatt, 1893) Naturalis
Loskot, V.M..
The main diagnostic characters of Riparia riparia and R. diluta are discussed based on fresh examinations of extensive material. The opinion of Zarudny that his subspecies innominata belongs to R. riparia is validated, but the series of syntypes of R. riparia innominata includes birds of both these sand martin species, and a lectotype is designated for R. r. innominata Zarudny 1916.

Review of the family Halopterididae (Hydrozoa, Cnidaria) Naturalis
Schuchert, P..
All genera and species of the hydrozoan family Halopterididae are reviewed. Where material was available, species are described and figured and the extent of morphological variation is assessed as far as possible. The re-examined material includes samples from the Challenger, Siboga, and Galathea expeditions. Numerous types were re-examined and taxonomic revisions made where necessary. For several nominal species lectotypes are designated. Two new species are described: Antennella kiwiana from New Zealand and Halopteris platygonotheca, a wide spread species from the Indo-Pacific Ocean. Halopteris buskii var. peculiaris (Billard, 1913) is raised to species level as Halopteris peculiaris. Several species are sunk into synonymy: Plumularia balei Billard, 1911...

Petry,Paulo; Mautari,Kelly; Menezes,Naércio A.; Hartel,Karsten.
The type status of the specimens of the genus Laemolyta described by S. Garman and N. Borodin are reviewed. The species involved were described as Anostomus varius nitens Garman, 1890, A. varius Garman, 1890, A. proximus Garman, 1890, and A. garmani Borodin, 1931. Several lots were subsequently erroneously designated as types and their status are corrected.
