Controle do capim-braquiária associado à nutrição com boro no cultivo do mogno-africano em sistema silvipastoril Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Brighenti,Alexandre Magno; Muller,Marcelo Dias.
Fire cues and germination of invasive and native grasses in the Cerrado Acta Botanica
Gorgone-Barbosa,Elizabeth; Daibes,Luís Felipe; Novaes,Rafael B.; Pivello,Vânia Regina; Fidelis,Alessandra.
ABSTRACT Fire-related cues may enhance seed recruitment in flammable ecosystems and differences in fire-germination responses of invasive vs. native species can drive the invasion process. We evaluated the effects of heat shock and smoke water solution treatment on seed germination of invasive (Melinis minutiflora, Urochloa decumbens, U. brizantha) and native grasses (Axonopus pressus, Aristida setifolia, Gymnopogon foliosus) of the Cerrado. The effect of fire temperature was tested by exposing seeds to heat shock treatments of 60, 100, and 200 °C for one minute, comparing them to untreated seeds. The effect of smoke was tested by soaking seeds for 24-h in an aqueous smoke comparing them to seeds soaked in distilled water. Differences among treatments were...

Disturbance as a factor in breaking dormancy and enhancing invasiveness of African grasses in a Neotropical Savanna Acta Botanica
Gorgone-Barbosa,Elizabeth; Pivello,Vânia R.; Baeza,M. Jaime; Fidelis,Alessandra.
The Cerrado is threatened by wildfires and invasive species. We aimed to evaluate in laboratory conditions whether temperature fluctuation at the soil surface, resulting from the absence of vegetation due to fire, can affect the germination of Urochloa decumbens and U. brizantha, two invasive African grasses. Seeds of both species were submitted to simulations: 1) temperature during fire at 1cm belowground (F); 2) temperature fluctuation at 1cm belowground without vegetation cover for a month (TF); 3) (F) + (TF); 4) control at 25ºC. After treatments, seeds were put to germinate at 25ºC for 40 days. We had four replicates per treatment and three temporal replicates. We compared germination percentage and the mean germination time among treatments using...

The aim was to evaluate the influence of different spatial arrangements of trees [(3×2)×20 m, (2×2)×9 m and 2×9 m] and sampling sites (center of row spacing and side of tree rows) with regard to the amount and quality of light in the understory of silvopastoral systems and their effects on the production and chemical composition of pasture. The experimental design was a randomized block in a split plot, with three replications. The sampling site affected absolute irradiance, photosynthetic active radiation (PAR), light interception (LI) and red/far red ratio, with higher rates in the center of spacing. There were high and positive correlations between LI/leaf area index (LAI), LI/dry mater (DM) and LAI/DM in the center and LI/LAI and FAR/DM in the side of...

Pequi leaves incorporated into the soil reduce the initial growth of cultivated, invasive and native species Anais da ABC (AABC)
ALLEM,LAÍSA N.; GOMES,ANABELE S.; BORGHETTI,FABIAN.
Studies have identified the phytotoxicity of many native species of the Cerrado; however, most of them were conducted either in inert substrates, or using exaggerate proportions of plant material. We investigated the phytotoxicity of pequi leaves added to substrate soil in quantities compatible with the litter produced by this species. Pequi leaves were triturated and added to red latosol in concentrations of 0.75%, 1.5% and 3%; the control was constituted of leafless soil. These mixtures were added to pots and irrigated daily to keep them moist. Germinated seeds of the cultivated sorghum and sesame, of the invasive brachiaria and of the native purple ipê, were disposed in the pots to grow for five to seven days at 30°C within a photoperiod of 12 h....

Beef cattle performance on signal grass pastures deferred and fertilized with nitrogen Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Amorim,P.L.; Fonseca,D.M.; Santos,M.E.R.; Pimentel,R.M.; Rodrigues,J.P.P.; Chizzotti,F.H.M.; Vitor,C.G..
ABSTRACT The effect of four nitrogen levels (0, 40, 80 and 120kg N ha-1), applied before deferment on the beef cattle production and structural variables on Urochloa decumbens (signal grass) were assessed from January to October 2012 and from January to September 2013. A randomized block design with three replicates was adopted, in an arrangement of repeated measures in time (grazing period). An interaction effect between nitrogen level and grazing period was observed on extended-plant height and herbage mass. As the nitrogen levels were increased, extended-plant height, herbage mass, total herbage allowance, and efficiency of conversion of fertilizer into herbage were increased. Throughout the grazing period, pasture height, extended-plant height,...

Microclimate and soil moisture in a silvopastoral system in southeastern Brazil Bragantia
Pezzopane,José Ricardo Macedo; Bosi,Cristiam; Nicodemo,Maria Luiza Franceschi; Santos,Patrícia Menezes; Cruz,Pedro Gomes da; Parmejiani,Renan Suaiden.
In this study, the microclimate changes in silvopastoral systems are quantified at different time and spatial scales and compared with single-pasture systems. The study was conducted in a silvopastoral system in São Carlos, Brazil (22°01' South and 47°53' West). The silvopastoral system consisted of grass pastures [Urochloa (sin. Brachiaria) decumbens cv. Basilik] lined with strips of native trees spaced at 17 m. Continuous microclimate measurements (air temperature, relative humidity, wind speed, and incident photosynthetically active radiation) were carried out from September 2010 to September 2012 at two positions of the silvopastoral system (2.0 and 8.5 m from the rows of trees) and at a pasture under full sunlight, located in an adjacent area. The...
