| A biological fact, which seemed to have a limited impact, has turned into a wider phenomenon since our experimental studies. In a critical review written by one of us (1), we had already demonstrated that the turning blue of Navicula ostrearia could not be considered as a property specific to this individual. In a dissertation (2), Hinard names other oyster bottom diatoms, less numerous than Navicula ostrearia, but showing a blue pigment as well (Storoneis crucigerum, Amphiprora paludosa). A few years ago, one of us, in collaboration with A. Jouvent (3) showed that, in specific environmental condition, some marine diatoms, belonging to other genera than Navicula (Nitzschia, Grammatophora) show this blue pigmentation phenomenon. | The clam is a shellfish whose flesh is highly appreciated and whose market value is quite high. The "true" clam Tapes decussatus and, to a lesser extent, Tapes pullustra WOOD, one of the "fake" clams, are the focus of an important trade. The clams, once immersed, stretch two membranous tubes, the siphons, out of the valves. This siphon can be twice as long as the animal itself. Tapes decussatus is identified thanks to the very neat canvas of its thick and solid shell, and by its two distinct siphons. The shell of Tapes pullastra has very fine striates. It is almost smooth, elongated, thick but fragile. The two siphons are attached over a large part of their length. |

| The ponds are a cultivation environment not only for the oyster but also for the rich microscopic flora and fauna which go together with the lamellibranch. The Diatoms are the focus of the oyster farmers as they not only contribute to the molluscs' nutrition but are also susceptible to change the colour of their gills in specific environmental conditions. We carried out in parallel an experimental study on the oyster and on the marine diatoms, and aimed to precise the optimal conditions for these two organisms, in order to know if they are the same for both of them. |

| Being occupied with studies on the Convolvulaceae of Netherlands India I met with a remarkable specimen in the Buitenzorg Herbarium, collected by Dr. O. POSTHUMUS during the expedition in Djambi (Sumatra) in the year 1925. At first sight this plant seemed to be a Merremia. A closer examination, however, soon showed some important differences with that genus, especially in respect to the corolla, which has a long, narrow and rather fleshy tube and a limb with 5 short, reflexed (or patent?) lobes. He discovered one new genus (Archboldia), 3 new species (Clerodendron Brassii, C. populneum and Premna inaequilateralis) and some interesting additions to the area’s of earlier described species, among which the rediscovery of Faradaya chrysoclada, and the discovery of two species new for South New Guinea (Premna sessilifolia and Teysmanniodendron bogoriense) and of one more for the whole island ( Glossocarya Hemiderma). |

| The genus Pausandra Radlk. belongs to the Tribe Cluytieae of the Euphorbiaceae. It was described by Radlkofer in 1870 in Flora LIII pp. 79—95. The genus is based on Thouinia Morisiana of Casaretto. In his paper Radlkofer discussed at length that this species does not belong to the Sapindaceous genus Thouinia, but represents a new genus of the Euphorbiaceae. As at that time female flowers were unknown Radlkofer stated that the systematic position of the new genus was still doubtful, but that most probably it should belong to a new subtribe of the Jatropheae. | In a previous paper (Boschma, 1935) I made some remarks concerning the parasites of Pachygrapsus crassipes Randall from Japan, viz., Sacculina confragosa and the specimens mentioned then under the name Sacculina rotundata. The latter parasite, indeed, shows some resemblance to S. rotundata, but a closer examination of its characters shows that it is specifically distinct from this species. It appears to be a new species which is described in the present paper as Sacculina yatsui.
