Gois,Daniela Dantas de; Sousa,Isabelle Vieira de; Barbosa,Francisca Maria Sousa; Silva Neto,José Ferreira da; Sampaio,Rubia Avlade Guedes; Simões,Sara Vilar Dantas; Dantas,Igor Mariz; Lucena,Ricardo Barbosa.
ABSTRACT: Congenital hepatic fibrosis (CHF) is an autosomal recessive malformation characterized by a variable degree of fibrosis and bile duct proliferation, mainly described in people and rarely reported in bovine European breeds. In addition to liver fibrosis, this syndrome has been associated with ascites and subcutaneous edema in calves. This paper described the pathological findings of the first report of CHF in a Nelore bovine fetus. A stillborn calf was removed by cesarean section because of dystocia. At necropsy, characteristic changes of CHF were observed, such as a large increase in abdominal volume associated with hepatic fibrosis and marked subcutaneous edema. Histological examination of liver revealed periportal and port-portal islands of...

Silva,Marco Aurélio Chiara; Silva,Miriele Caroline da; Pinheiro,João Waine; Castro-Goméz,Raul Jorge Hernan; Murakami,Alice Eiko; Loyola,Wagner; Venancio,Emerson José.
ABSTRACT: Advances in the fields of glycobiology and immunology have provided many insights into the role of carbohydrate-protein interactions in the immune system. Jacalin of Artocarpus integrifolia (JCA) and structural mannoprotein of Saccharomyces uvarum (MPS) are molecules with immunomodulatory properties. JCA is an IgA human lectin binding molecule that causes the mitogenic stimulation of immune cells, production of cytokines, chemotaxis, and activation of leukocytes. Studies on the immunomodulatory properties of JCA and MPS in mammals and fish suggest that they have an action on antibody production. The aim of this study was to investigate the possible action of JCA and MPS on the production of specific antibodies in laying hens. For this, laying...
