Some fossil species of Babylonia seen in ultraviolet light, with description of a new species (Mollusca, Gastropoda) Naturalis
Regteren, C.O. van; Gittenberger, E..
When preparing a revision of the genus Babylonia for "Indo-Pacific Mollusca", edited by Dr. R. Tucker Abbott, we tried ultraviolet light to see the outline of the colour-pattern of some fossil species. Later on we saw the same method described by Mrs. Katherine Krueger (1971). Dr. H. E. Coomans of the Institute for Taxonomic Zoology (Zoological Museum), Amsterdam, called our attention to this method. We used an ultraviolet lamp UVSL-15 of Ultra-Violet Products Inc., San Gabriel, California. Mr. Chr. Hoorn, photographer of our museum, found a method to photograph the normally invisible pattern. He used an orthochromatic film, Copex Ortho, Agfa-Gevaert, 120 din, in combination with a yellow filter. After having found a suitable specimen by previous...

Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Pupillacea : I. Die Spelaeodiscinae Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..

Pyramidellidae (Mollusca, Gastropoda, Heterobranchia) collected during the Dutch CANCAP and MAURITANIA expeditions in the south-eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean (part 2) Naturalis
Aartsen, J.J. van; Gittenberger, E.; Goud, J..
The species of the Pyramidellidae collected during several expeditions in the south-eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean are listed, with locality data, depth ranges, and notes on nomenclature, systematics and distribution. The samples classified with the genera Eulimella (partly), Anisocycla, Syrnola, Chrysallida and Odostomella are dealt with in this paper. In total 70 species are reported from the research area, 24 of which are described as new to science. A lectotype of Obeliscus gracillima Smith, 1872 (= Eulimella variabilis de Folin, 1870) and neotypes of Chrysallida multicostata (Jeffreys, 1884) and Jaminia obtusa Brown, 1827, are designated.

Vitrea trolli (Wagner) et Ruthenica Filograna (Rossmässler) (Gastropoda, Pulmonata), nouvelles pour La France Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..

On Cyprian Helicellinae (Mollusca: Gastropoda Pulmonata: Helicidae), making a new start Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..
Our fragmentary knowledge concerning the Cyprian Helicellinae is revised and summarized, while new data are added. "Helicella (Xerotricha) conspurcata distinguenda" Haas, 1936, is a Helicopsis species that has to be called H. cypriola (Westerlund, 1889) as a consequence of the selection of a neotype for Westerlund's poorly described nominal taxon. "Helicella (Xerotricha) conspurcata arrouxi" sensu Haas, 1934 (not Bourguignat, 1863) is described as Helicella juglans spec. nov. This species stands apart among the Helicellinae by the lack of a separate penis. Neither material nor reliable records of Xerotricha conspurcata (Draparnaud, 1801) could be traced; only X. apicina (Lamarck, 1822) is known from Cyprus. The wide-spread "arrouxi" has also been found on...

Wat is biodiversiteit? Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..

Three notes on Iberian terrestrial gastropods Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..
SUMMARY A. The present knowledge concerning the SW European Zospeum species is summarized. Z. schaufussi Von Frauenfeld, 1862, is redescribed and compared with Z. bellesi Gittenberger, 1973, and Ζ. suaresi spec. nov. B. Gasulliella gen. nov. is introduced for Helix simplicula Morelet, 1845. A condensed synonymy list of G. simplicula is given, the shell and the genitalia of the species are described and data on its geographical distribution are presented. Helix inchoata Morelet, 1845, is made type-species of Portugala gen. nov. and dealt with in the same way as G. simplicula. A. ON SPANISH ZOSPEUM (PULMONATA, BASOMMATOPHORA) Obviously, the discovery of a member of the genus Zospeum in northern Spain by X. Belles (Gittenberger, 1973) inaugurated a new era...

Beiträge zur Kenntnis der Pupillacea : V. die spelaeodiscinae, Erster Nachtrag Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..

The Genus Theba (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Helicidae), Systematics and Distribution Naturalis
Gittenberger, E.; Ripken, Th. E.J..
Our knowledge concerning taxonomy and zoogeography of the fossil and recent species of the helicid genus Theba is summarized and enlarged. The fossil T. arinagae spec. nov. is described from Gran Canaria. The recent T. andalusica spec. nov. and T. sacchii spec. nov. are described from the southernmost part of the Iberian peninsula and the southernmost part of Morocco, respectively. This implies that four fossil and ten recent Theba species are recognized. Two of the fossil species are very insufficiently known. Some recent species are polytypic, which results in 17 (sub)specific taxa in total. Neotypes are selected for T. subdentata legionaria and T. solimae. The nominate subspecies of T. pisana is shown to be aberrant because of its very wide range; the...

The genus Babylonia revisited (Mollusca: Gastropoda: Buccinidae) Naturalis
Gittenberger, E.; Goud, J..
Taxonomic and biogeographic data on Babylonia and Zemiropsis, published after the 1981 monograph on Babylonia by Altena & Gittenberger, are summarized and new data are added. Babylonia and Zemiropsis are characterized and considered most closely related genera. Babylonia lani spec. nov. and Babylonia umbilifusca spec. nov. are introduced as new to science. Babylonia leonis Altena & Gittenberger, 1972, described from pliocene-pleistocene deposits, is reported as an extant species. The enigmatic “Babylonia” rosadoi is considered a Zemiropsis species on the basis of both shell morphology and distribution.

Zur Systematik der in die Gattung Trissexodon Pilsbry (Helicidae, Helicodontinae) gerechneten Arten Naturalis
Gittenberger, E..
