Organic Eprints is an open access archive for papers related to research in organic agriculture. The archive contains full-text papers in electronic form together with bibliographic information, abstracts and other metadata. The database is available at www.orgprints.org and was set up by the Danish Research Centre for Organic Farming - DARCOF (now ICROFS). The Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL Germany and Switzerland) is a major partner and contributes to the development of the database within a project under the German Federal Organic Farming Scheme (BOEL). In the frame of the European ERA-Net project CORE Organic, the archive was used to map research programmes, projects and publications in the field of organic agriculture in eleven... |

The website forschung.oekolandbau.de is an information platform for all players in organic agriculture research in Germany and beyond, providing news and information on events, links, addresses and a newsletter. The platform is used to publish all research results achieved in the German Federal Organic Farming Scheme. The website is linked to the international open access archive Organic Eprints (orgprints.org), in which authors and institutions document publications related to organic farming research. Organic Eprints is increasingly used by the international research community as a communication tool, thus providing the basis for research coordination. |

TIPI, the Technology Innovation Platform of IFOAM – Organics International, aims to foster international collaboration in organic agriculture research, engage and involve all stakeholders that benefit from organic agriculture research, facilitate exchange of scientific knowledge of organic food and farming systems, and help disseminate, apply and implement innovations and scientific knowledge consistent with the principles of organic agriculture. This document lays down TIPI’s Global Vision and Strategy to advance organic agriculture through research, development, innovation and technology transfer. |

Organic agriculture is practiced in 178 countries, and 57.8 million hectares of agricultural land are managed organically by approximately 2.7 million farmers. The global sales of organic food and drink reached 90 billion US dollars in 2016, according to Ecovia Intelligence. The 19th edition of The World of Organic Agriculture, published by the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL) and IFOAM – Organics International, provides a comprehensive review of recent developments in global organic agriculture. It includes contributions from representatives of the organic sector around the world and provides comprehensive organic farming statistics that cover the area under organic management, specific information about land use in organic systems, the... |

In most wine growing countries organic viticulture is now becoming more and more important. In most non-European countries organic viticulture is still in an initial stage and the number of organic vineyards is still small. The expansion of organic viticulture is hindered by the fact that in many countries incentives are provided for growers to adopt integrated pest management. Such incentive schemes are generally supported and promoted by the government, the chemical industry and conventional producer associations. As demand for conventional wines is booming, market forces do not provide much incentive for growers to convert to organic production methods. The limited knowledge about organic viticulture also poses a severe restriction of its expansion.... |

The report presents the current (2005) status of organic farming resarch in Switzerland. Switzerland has a long history of organic farming research, which in its beginnings has been carried out by organic farming pioneers and by private institutions like the Goetheanum, Möschberg Centre and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL). It was in the 1990s, when Swiss Federal Agricultural Research Stations (Agroscope) became also involved in organic research topics. It can be estimated that currently approximately € 7.5 million per annum are allocated very specifically to organic farming research from public budgets. The National Research Programme is organised according to a four-year research concept of the Swiss Federal Office of... |

This paper gives an overview of the state of research and extension in the countries of the EU and EFTA and a more detailed view of the situation in the German language region, including information on the transfer of research results into agricultural practice, the transfer of the needs of agricultural practice to research and the state of applied research. The International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM) and its regional groups in Europe and their activities; needs in organic farming research from an IFOAM regional perspective, as well as European research networks are described. For this paper a number of sources were used: Input came from the IFOAM regional groups as well as from experts on organic agriculture in the countries... |

This presentation summarizes the data on organic horticulture as collected in the framework of the survey on organic agriculture world-wide, carried out by IFOAM and FiBL annually. Horticultural crops include, fruits, vegetables, grapes, ornamental plants, furthermore coffee, cocoa, nuts and olives. The data show that: - At least 2.16 million hectares of organic horticultural crops were grown in 2008. - This constitutes one percent of the world’s horticultural cropland of 200 million hectares. - The countries with the largest areas of organic horticultural land are Mexico, Italy, and Spain. - For some of the countries with largest horticultural areas (China, India, Brazil) no information on the use of the organic land / crops grown is available. -... |
