Description of a new species of the genus Callianassa Leach and of a species of the genus Alpheus Fabr., both from the Indian Archipelago Naturalis
Man, J.G. de.
Callianassa (Callichirus) vigilax n. sp. Plate I, fig. 1—6. One female without eggs, collected in 1863 by Mr. Ludeking at Amboina. This new species is most closely related to Callianassa (Callichirus) armata A. M. - Edw. from the Fiji Islands, but may at first sight be distinguished by the shape of the abdomen, of the caudal fan and of the smaller cheliped, probably also by that of the larger, which, unfortunately, is wanting, like the flagella of the outer antennae. This specimen is 85 mm. long from tip of rostrum to end of telson and therefore belongs to the larger species of this genus; the carapace which is 22 mm. long, measures about one-fourth the whole length and one-third the length of the abdomen. Rostrum (Fig. 2) broadly triangular, acuminate,...

Nomenclatural notes on Mediterranean species of Calappa Weber, 1795 (Crustacea: Decapoda: Brachyura) Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
Abstract: The species name Calappa rissoana Pastore, 1995, is a junior synonym of both C. rosea Jarocki, 1825, and C. webbiana Risso, 1977. The possibility of a narrow relationship between, or even of a synonymy of, C. tuerkayana and C. gallus has been pointed out.

[Proceedings of the 5th Symposium on Mesozoic and Cenozoic Decapod Crustaceans, Krakow, Poland, 2013: A tribute to Pál Mihály Müller / R.H.B. Fraaije, M. Hyžný, J.W.M. Jagt, M. Krobicki & B.W.M. van Bakel (eds.)]: Dynomenid crabs (Decapoda, Brachyura) and stalked barnacles (Cirripedia, Scalpelliformes) from upper Cenomanian-lower Turonian nearshore, shallow-water strata in the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin, Czech Republic Naturalis
Kočová Veselská, M.; Kočí, T.; Kubajko, M..
Crustacea (dynomenid crabs and cirripedes) from the upper Cenomanian-lower Turonian nearshore, shallow-water bioclastic limestones to marly siltstones found along the southern and eastern margins of the Bohemian Cretaceous Basin (BCB) are described. Crabs are rather rare in this area, and mostly restricted to fragmentary pereiopods, i.e., isolated claws or dactyli. In view of the confused taxonomy of isolated claws, their proper identity could not be determined; they were mostly referred to the necrocarcinid genus Necrocarcinus Bell, 1863. A recent re-examination of material deposited in the collections of the National Museum (Národní Muzeum, Prague), and of new finds, has revealed that all allegedly necrocarcinid pereiopods and nearly all carapaces from...

New records of deep-water shrimps of the genus Pandalopsis with a description of P. zarenkovi spec. nov. (Crustacea: Decapoda: Pandalidae) from the Bering Sea Naturalis
Ivanov, B.G.; Sokolov, V.I..
A collection of pandalid shrimps was obtained from trawl catch in the western Bering Sea at a depth of 362 m off the Navarin Cape in June 1999. There were two species of Pandalopsis in the collection, P. dispar and a new species, P. zarenkovi spec. nov., which is described herein. The diagnostic characters of the new species are discussed in relation to related congeners. The side-stripe shrimp, P. dispar, has been recorded for the first time in the Russian waters. This species is fished commercially as a bycatch of Pandalus borealis.

H. Milne Edwards's "Histoire Naturelle des Crustacés" (1834-1840) and its dates of publication Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
Introduction. — By far the most important and fundamental carcinological publication of the first half of the 19th century unquestionably is Henri Milne Edwards's (1834-1840) "Histoire naturelle des Crustacés", which treated all species of Crustacea known at that time in an exceedingly clear and comprehensive manner. The work was published in three volumes of text and one atlas. The dates of publication of it have never caused any difficulty. It was generally accepted that volume I was published in 1834, volume II in 1837, and volume III in 1840. These dates have never been challenged, and on closer examination indeed prove to be correct. About the date or dates of the atlas authors were vague and usually cited 1834-1840, or 1840, or they cited the atlas...

Bemerkungen zur Taxonomie von Paguritta Harmsi (Gordon) (Crustacea Decapoda, Anomura) und Beschreibung einer neuen art der Gleichen Gattung aus Australien Naturalis
Lewinsohn, Ch..

Contributions to the knowledge of Leucosiidae VI. Soceulia gen. nov. (Crustacea: Brachyura) Naturalis
Galil, B.S..
A new genus, Soceulia, is established for Leucosia species with third to fifth segments of the male abdomen fused, the first male pleopod with shaft coiled once on its axis, and terminating in a digitate apical process encased in a setose muff: L. marmorea Bell, 1855, L. brunnea Miers, 1877, L. major Chen & Ng, 2003, and a new species, S. alainia. The species are described or redescribed and illustrated, extended synonymies are given, and a key for their identification is provided.

The mite Genus lardoglyphus Oudemans, 1927 (= Hoshikadania Sasa and Asanuma, 1951) Naturalis
Hughes, A.M..
Lardoglyphus zacheri Oudemans and L. (= H oshikadania) konoi (Sasa and Asanuma) were sent to me by Mr. D. A. Griffiths of the Infestation Control Division of the Ministry of Agriculture. They were found in butcher's offal ("gut greaves"), used in the manufacture of fertiliser, on premises near Chesterfield. In this particular case the offal was obtained locally, though it can also be imported from the Argentine; possibly the mites were orginally introduced into this country on empty uncleaned sacks obtained from other manufacturers. The purpose of this paper is to provide a more complete description of L. zacheri Oudemans, and also to clear up some confusion in nomenclature. Lardoglyphus zacheri Oudemans, 1927 (figs. 1-5) Female (fig. 1). Length of...

Les Cymothoidae (Isopoda, Flabellifera; Parasites de Poissons) du Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie de Leiden : II. Afrique, Amérique et régions Indo-Ouest-Pacifiques Naturalis
Trilles, J.P..

Feldmann, R.M.; Schweitzer, C.E.; Portell, R.W..
The present record of two species of brachyurous decapod crustaceans, Costacopluma grayi Feldmann & Portell, 2007 and Stevea martini sp. nov., from the lower Paleocene Pine Barren Member (Clayton Formation) in south-central Alabama, constitutes an extension of the range of the former and the sole occurrence of the latter. Previously, C. grayi was described from the middle Eocene Tallahatta Formation in Alabama. Stevea martini sp. nov. constitutes only the second species of the genus and the sole fossil occurrence known to date.

Notes on the Localities, Habitats, Biology, colour and vernacular names of new Guinea Freshwater Crabs (Crustacea Decapoda, Sundathelphusidae) Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
From October 1954 to May 1955 three staff members of the Rijksmuseum van Natuurlijke Historie (Dr. L. D. Brongersma, Dr. M. Boeseman and myself) visited Netherlands New Guinea (at present officially named West Irian, and part of Indonesia) with the object to make zoological collections there and to study the fauna of this most interesting area. Dr. Boeseman as an ichthyologist, and myself as a carcinologist, devoted a large part of our available time to the freshwater fauna. Although most of Dr. Boeseman's attention was given to fishes, and my main interest was with macrurous Decapoda, we brought together fair collections of fresh water crabs, and both of us made field notes on these collections. The late Dr. Richard Bott 1) of the Senckenberg Museum,...

Pontonides sympathes, a new species of commensal shrimp (Crustacea, Decapoda, Pontoniinae) from Antipatharia in the Galapagos Islands Naturalis
Ridder, Ch. de; Holthuis, L.B..
During a stay at the Galapagos Islands (1975-1976), one of us (Ch. de Ridder) made a study of Gorgonaria and Antipatharia, paying special attention to commensals found with these corals. On Antipathes galapagensis Deichmann, 1941, a species of the pontoniine shrimp genus Pontonides was observed, which proved to be new to science. The present paper describes the new species and its living conditions. Pontonides sympathes new species (figs. 1-3) Material examined. — Punta Pitt, north-east coast of San Cristobal Island, Galapagos Archipelago, Ecuador; on Antipathes galapagensis Deichmann growing on a lava bottom at a depth of 8 m; surface water temperature 23.9oC; 2 February 1976; Ch. A collection of Decapod Crustacea from Sumba, Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia Naturalis
Holthuis, L.B..
The Sumba-Expedition undertaken by Dr. E . Sutter of the Naturhistorisches Museum of Basle and Dr. A . Bühler of the Museum für Völkerkunde of the same town, visited the Lesser Sunda Islands, Indonesia, in 1949. Dr. Sutter, the zoologist, stayed in the islands from 19 May to 26 November; most of the time was spent by him in Sumba (21 May-31 October), and extensive collections were made there, among which a most interesting material of Decapod Crustacea, which forms the subject of the present paper. A few Crustacea were collected on the islands of Sumbawa (on 19 May) and Flores (19 and 21 November). The animals taken at Flores belong to species also obtained in Sumba and will be treated here with those; at Sumbawa two hermit crabs belonging to the species...

Investigations of Gamasina mites in natural and man-affected soils in Latvia (Acari: Mesostigmata) Naturalis
Salmane, I..
Investigations of Gamasina mites in natural and man-affected soils in Latvia (Acari: Mesostigmata) A short overview is presented on Gamasina material collected in 22 natural and man-disturbed habitats in Latvia. Species diversity, average density and species dominance were investigated. Altogether 167 Gamasina species from 14 families were found. The highest number of species was found for field margins and the lowest for pine forests and arable lands affected by calciferous dust. The highest densities of mites were observed for arable lands, and the lowest for coastal meadows. There were no habitats, neither natural nor man-affected, with both a high number of species and high densities. Some specific habitats such as spruce forests polluted by pig...

Rhynchocinetes holthuisi, a new shrimp from the Gulf of Aqaba, northern Red Sea (Crustacea: Decapoda: Rhynchocinetidae) Naturalis
Okuno, J..
A new rhynchocinetid shrimp, Rhynchocinetes holthuisi, is described and illustrated on the basis of five males, one female and three ovigerous females from the Gulf of Aqaba, northern Red Sea. This species is readily distinguished from four closely related species with arthrobranchs on the third maxilliped and the anterior two pereiopods in combination of the length of the stylocerite, the forms of the antennal basicerite and the endopod of male first pleopod, and meral and dactylar spinulation of the ambulatory pereiopods. It is considered to be an endemic species in the northern Red Sea.

Description of a new western Atlantic species of Argeia Dana with a proposed new subfamily for this and related genera (Crustacea Isopoda, Bopyridae) Naturalis
Markham, J.C..
INTRODUCTION Recently, material representing an undescribed species of the genus Argeia Dana in the western Atlantic, the first record of that genus from this ocean, became available to me. The previous records of Argeia are of 4 species in the Pacific, including one whose range extends around the entire northern Pacific, and one from the Indian Ocean. Two of the species, though, represented systematic problems which it was necessary to resolve. At the same time, 4 other genera, Parargeia Hansen, Bopyrosa Nierstrasz & Brender à Brandis, Stegoalpheon Chopra and Argeiopsis Kensley, are clearly related to Argeia, but it has been difficult to assign any of them to currently recognized bopyrid subfamilies. Thus a new subfamily containing these 5 genera is...
