Anatomic Description of the Ulna of the White-Footed Tamarin (Saguinus leucopus Günther, 1876) International Journal of Morphology
Vélez-García,Juan Fernando; Duque-Parra,Jorge Eduardo; Barco-Ríos,John.
This document is a description of the macroscopic functional anatomy of the ulna bony prominences in the White-footed Tamarin (Saguinus leucopus), a neotropical endemic, and monotypic primate of Colombia. Few studies have been conducted on its anatomy, and thus its ulnar morphology, an essential element for this animal's quadrupedal arboreal locomotion, remains unknown. This study is based on eight specimens, fixed in formalin at 10 % whose ulnas were extracted in order to describe the main bony prominences along with muscular and ligamentous fixation functions. These elements of the locomotor apparatus and the multiple anatomical contours of the ulna of the White-footed Tamarin, exhibit characteristics for positional and articular adjustment with other...

Anatomical Study on the Psoas Minor Muscle in Human Fetuses International Journal of Morphology
Guerra,Danilo Ribeiro; Reis,Francisco Prado; Bastos,Afrânio de Andrade; Brito,Ciro José; Silva,Roberto Jerônimo dos Santos; Aragão,José Aderval.
The anatomy of the psoas minor muscle in human beings has frequently been correlated with ethnic and racial characteristics. The present study had the aim of investigating the anatomy of the psoas minor, by observing its occurrence, distal insertion points, relationship with the psoas major muscle and the relationship between its tendon and muscle portions. Twenty-two human fetuses were used (eleven of each gender), fixed in 10% formol solution that had been perfused through the umbilical artery. The psoas minor muscle was found in eight male fetuses: seven bilaterally and one unilaterally, in the right hemicorpus. Five female fetuses presented the psoas minor muscle: three bilaterally and two unilaterally, one in the right and one in the left hemicorpus....

A Case of Unusual Anatomy: Maxillary Central Incisor with Two Root Canals International Journal of Morphology
Rodrigues,Evaldo Almeida; Silva,Sílvio José Albergaria da.
Success in root canal treatment is achieved after thorough cleaning and shaping followed by complete obturation of the canal system. Therefore, endodontic therapy requires specific and complete knowledge of the internal and external dental anatomy, and its variations in presentation. Such treatment may be performed in root canal systems that do not comply with the normal anatomical features described in standard textbooks. The internal anatomy of the maxillary central incisor is well known and usually presents one root canal system. This case report describes an endodontic retreatment of a maxillary central incisor with two canal systems.

Valdivia Gandur,Iván; Tallón Walton,Victoria; Carvalho Lobato,Patricia; Lozano de Luaces,Vicente; Manzanares Céspedes,María Cristina.
The relationship between sensitive innervation and normal mandibular bone development has been described in the literature. Therefore, neural damage is a potential cause of osseous deformities, particularly in growing subjects. The aim of this project is to present the mandible measurements obtained after the transection of the inferior alveolar nerve of growing rabbits. A specific surgical protocol was designed to carry out the unilateral nerve transection by avoiding musculoskeletal injuries. Twenty New Zealand White rabbits one week post-weaning were used, 12 as an experimental group and 8 as a control group (Sham operated). The animals were sacrificed 90 days postoperatory, and the mandibles carefully dissected. Dental midline deviation data were...

Anatomical Study of the Digastric Muscle: Variations in the Anterior Belly International Journal of Morphology
Liquidate,Bianca Maria; Barros,Mirna Duarte; Alves,Adriana Leal; Pereira,Celina Siqueira Barbosa.
The digastric muscle is formed by two muscle bellies: one anterior and one posterior, joined by an intermediate tendon. It is localized in the anterior cervical region. The anterior belly divides the region between the hyoid bone and the mandible into two: laterally the submandibular triangle, and medially the submental triangle. The anatomical variations described in the literature relate to the anterior belly and consist of differences in shape and muscle attachment. This cross-sectional cohort study had the objective of describing anatomical variations in the anterior belly of the digastric muscle. The neck regions of 10 cadavers of male adults were dissected in the Department of Morphology, between June 2004 and June 2006. The digastric muscles that...

The radial nerve is a terminal branch of the brachial plexus that innervates the entire posterior compartment of the upper limb. Researches have shown that the branches can contribute to innervation of the muscles from the anterior compartment of the arm. This study sought to identify branches of radial nerve for brachialis and coracobrachialis muscles and its clinical value during surgery. Dissection was performed in 60 arms, from 30 corpses selected from the Human Anatomy Laboratories of Universidade Estadual de Ciências da Saúde de Alagoas (UNCISAL). In each arm, three segments of the same proportion were considered (proximal, middle and distal) in order to observe the number of radial nerve branches to brachialis and coracobrachialis muscles. Branches...

Damwan,Aomjai; Agthong,Sithiporn; Amarase,Chavarin; Yotnuengnit,Pattarapol; Huanmanop,Thanasil; Chentanez,Vilai.
Medial antebrachial cutaneous nerve (MACN) courses in the medial arm to provide sensory innervation to the medial forearm. Its anatomy has been partly described since data regarding its branching pattern and distances to adjacent landmarks are still lacking. The purpose of this study was to provide morphometric anatomy of the MACN with comparisons between sides and sexes. Ninety-six upper extremities from 26 males and 22 females were dissected. We found that up to 5 branches of MACN pierced the deep fascia with the maximum of 4 reaching the interepicondylar line (IEL). Presence of 2 and 3 branches was found in the majority of cases (> 80%). The distances from these branches to the landmarks varied considerably. In case of no branch, the mean distances...
