| O Centro Nacional de Pesquisa de Gado de Corte, da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária - Embrapa Gado de Corte - vem promovendo esforços no sentido de contribuir para o melhoramento genético da bovinocultura desde o início de sua implantação em Campo Grande, MS, em 1977. Na linha de seleção, destacam-se as atividades relacionadas com as avaliações genéticas que permitiram a Embrapa Gado de Corte, em parceria com a Associação Brasileira dos Criadores de Zebu, ter sido pioneira no lançamento de sumários de touros, no Brasil, trabalho que vem sendo realizado desde 1984. Delineado em 1990 e posto em execução a partir de 1992, o Programa de Avaliação de Touros Jovens veio agregar mais eficiência à avaliação nacional e somar resultados a várias outras... |

| Genetic evaluations in animal breeding are essential for identifying superior individuals, who can be selected to compose the next generation. The indication of sires and dams of proven genetic value improves the efficiency of production systems. On the other hand, the use of few animals in the selection process can increase the inbreeding of the herds, which can reduce the animals’ vigor and reduce future genetic variability. Additionally, with the availability of genetic value from several animals, the decision of how to combine these parents for the possibility of greater genetic gain is not such a simple task. | The objective of this work was to assess the degree of multicollinearity and to identify the variables involved in linear dependence relations in additive-dominant models. Data of birth weight (n=141,567), yearling weight (n=58,124), and scrotal circumference (n=20,371) of Montana Tropical composite cattle were used. Diagnosis of multicollinearity was based on the variance inflation factor (VIF) and on the evaluation of the condition indexes and eigenvalues from the correlation matrix among explanatory variables. | Abstract: The objective of this work was to identify the most suitable model for the genetic evaluation of post-weaning weight gain in a multibreed Angus-Nelore population. Three models were tested using the Bayesian inference method: traditional animal model (M1), multibreed animal model without (M2) and with segregation (M3). The choice of the best model followed the criteria: number of parameters (Np), deviance information criterion (DIC), conditional predictive ordinate (CPO), and deviance based on Bayes factors. Spearman’s rank correlations were estimated for the top 10, 20, and 30% sires. | Vizsgálataimban négy közép-szigetközi település (Ásványráró, Hédervár, Darnózseli, Püski) mezőgazdasági szövetkezeti állattenyésztését és az állati ter-mék előállításra vonatkozó jellemzőit elemeztem 1990-től 2006-ig. Megállapítot-tam, hogy az egész országot érintő változások következtében a vizsgált szövetke-zetek állatállománya drasztikusan lecsökkent, az előállított állati termékek köre erőteljesen leszűkült, melynek hatására az állattartás és állattenyésztés nagymér-tékben veszített jelentőségéből. | Meeting growing global demand for food, fiber, and biofuel requires robust investment in agricultural research and development (R&D) from both public and private sectors. This study examines global R&D spending by private industry in seven agricultural input sectors, food manufacturing, and biofuel and describes the changing structure of these industries. | ABSTRACT The objective of this study was to evaluate the reproductive performance of ewes subjected to a short-term protocol for estrus induction using 1 mg of Norgestomet during the non-breeding season in Brazil. A total of 84 ewes were randomly divided into two equal groups (n = 42 per group). Controlled Internal Drug Release (CIDR) containing 330 mg progesterone was inserted into the vagina in the first 42 ewes, and for the other 42 ewes in the second group, 1 mg of Norgestomet was placed subcutaneously in the convex surface of the ear.
