Gupta,Neelam; Singh,Gajendra; Singh,S. M; Reddy,K. R. C.
In Ayurvedic practice Butea monosperma (Palash) is in clinical use for hundreds of years as a contraceptive. Seeds of Butea monosperma are also used as an anthelmitic (Ansani et al., 1979) and antimicrobial (Avirutnant & Pongpan, 1983). Butea monosperma (Fabaceae family) locally known as Palash (Dhak) if given for 3 consecutive days acts as an antifertility agent for which it has been is traditionally used since time immemorial. The objective of the present study was to search the effect of Butea monosperma seeds on the ovary of mice. Observations in the present study were massive degeneration of ova in almost all the follicles, irrespective of the stage of their development. The ova from treated animals showed different stages of necrotic process....

Apoptosis Durante el Desarrollo Embrionario de la Retina de Tortuga (Trachemys scripta elegans) International Journal of Morphology
Segovia,Y.

AGEING INDUCES APOPTOSIS AND INCREASES HSP70 STRESS PROTEIN IN THE EPIDIDYMIS OF Octodon degus International Journal of Morphology
Bustos-Obregón,Eduardo; Esponda,Pedro.
Apoptosis has been largely analyzed in the testis. Nevertheless, the epididymis has been scarcely studied. We analyzed the number of apoptotic cells in the different regions (caput, corpus and cauda) of the epididymis of the South American rodent Octodon degus both young and senile. Apoptosis was identified using the TUNEL method which detects in situ DNA fragmentation. Apoptosis was detected in the principal cells of the epididymal epithelium. The caput epididymis was the region more affected. The caput of young animals showed that 0.32/1000 cells were apoptotic in contrast to 5.1/1000 of senile animals. Also in the cauda epididymis apoptosis is increased with age, appearing 0.14/1000 and 3.9/1000 in young and senile animals, respectively. On the other...

Quercetin Inhibits Left Ventricular Dysfunction Induced by Chronic Stress in Rats International Journal of Morphology
Bin-Jaliah,Ismaeel.
Complications of chronic stress including cardiovascular disease are among the common public health problems that affect the lives of millions of people around the globe. We sought to determine whether the anti-oxidant and anti-apoptotic agent, quercetin can inhibit chronic stress-induced left ventricular dysfunction (LVD). Chronic unpredictable stress (CUS) was induced in rats using a variety of stressors in the presence and absence of quercetin (50 mg/kg body weight/day). Harvested tissues from the left ventricles (LV) of these animals were examined using basic histological staining. In addition, LV tissue homogenates were assayed for markers of oxidative and anti-oxidative stress that are known to be modulated in cardiac dysfunction. Furthermore, LV...

Bustos Obregón,Eduardo; Esponda,Pedro.
The general aim of this paper was to characterize some changes induced by androgen receptors blockage in the epithelial cells of the mouse epididymis. The antiandrogen flutamide was injected (10 mg/Kg b.w.) to adult male mice which were sacrificed 24h. and 72h. after. Controls injected with the vehicle (corn oil) were sacrificed at the same intervals. Cryosections were made of the epididymides and examined by the TUNEL method for quantification of apoptosis and also using immunocytochemistry to visualize the expression of the stress protein HSP70. The highest indexes of apoptosis were observed in the caput epididymis after 72 h. and were of 7.40 cells/1000 in contrast to controls (0.21 cells/1000). HSP70 appeared particularly increased in the caput and...

Reproductive Response in Offspring Male Rats Exposed to Prenatal Stress and to Early Postnatal Stimulation International Journal of Morphology
Chen Cárdenas,S. M; Mayer,N; Romanini,M. C; Rolando,A. N; Liaudat,A. C; Brun,N; Vivas,A; Gauna,H. F; Rodríguez,N.
Stress in pregnant rats alters the pattern of secretion of corticosterone (COR) and modifies transplacentally hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis (HPA) fetus. Prenatal stress during the critical hypothalamic differentiation is related to decreased fertility of male offspring by an increase in the basal level of COR. This modification could induce long-term changes in the process of apoptosis in the testis. However, early postnatal handling increases maternal behavior and could reverse the effects caused by increased secretion of COR. The aim of this research was to investigate the effects of early postnatal stimulation of male rats prenatal stressed by chronic immobilization during the last two weeks of pregnancy, on the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis...

Perfil de Metilación de Genes Supresores de Tumores APAF1, ASSP1, p73 y FHIT en Pacientes con Leucemia Linfoblástica Aguda Infantil International Journal of Morphology
Melo A,Angélica; Artigas A,Carmen Gloria; Muñoz N,Sergio; Brebi M,Priscilla; Hoffstetter G,Rene; Roa S,Juan Carlos.

Lorenzo,MS; Tello,MF; Fischman,ML; Claver,J; Lombardo,DM.
