TANZANIA- Coastal Tourism Situation Analysis OceanDocs
This report provides a broad assessment of the current status of coastal tourism in Tanzania and identifies the priority actions that need to be taken in order to develop a sustainable coastal tourism industry. Tourism is one of Tanzania's leading economic sectors, providing employment, foreign exchange and international recognition. For many years, tourism has relied solely on the superb wildlife found in the country. It is only recently that the need to diversify away from wildlife tourism and focus on coastal and cultural tourism has been recognized.

Luna Quevedo, D.; Tabilo Valdivieso, E.; Tabilo Valdivieso, L..

Stakeholder Inequalities in Integrated Coastal Management Projects OceanDocs
Glaesel, H..
Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) projects bring together diverse stakeholders to share knowledge, power, and responsibility for local and regional planning. As such, ICMs may be viewed as microcosms of international conferences on development and environment. In each case more powerful stakeholders support an environmental conservation agenda at the expense of the socio-economic development interests of the less powerful stakeholders while concealing inequalities in influence through a discourse of cooperative management. A case study from coastal Kenya is used to illustrate these parallels.

White Paper Coastal Zone Management In The Mediterranean OceanDocs
Hénocque, Y.; Coccossis, H..
As part of its Work-Plan for 1998-1999, the Priority Actions Programme Regional Activity Centre (PAP/RAC) of the Mediterranean Action Plan (MAP) has commissioned the preparation of a “White Paper” on Coastal Zone Management in the Mediterranean. PAP/RAC has been involved in promoting the concept of Integrated Coastal Area Management (ICAM) in the Mediterranean countries for more than 15 years, and has been recognised as a pioneer and a leading institution in this field. However, it has been acknowledged that there is a need to occasionally revise coastal management activities, especially in the area of policy issues. More specifically, even though extensive efforts have been made by a number of agents in the region, their results have not been quite...

Isla Molleda, M.; Arencibia Carballo, G.; Capetillo Piñar, N.; Pérez Santos, I. E..

Storero, L.P..
Coastal marine ecosystems are highly variable and the inherent biotic and abiotic factors of these environments can influence the bio-ecological characteristics of the living cephalopods. The presence of the small octopus “pulpito” Octopus tehuelchus in the coastal environments of San Matías Gulf has been exploited by artisanal fishermen for more than 60 years. The aim of this study is to evaluate the variations in the life cycle of the pulpito, and the factors that could account for these variations in three different coastal environments of San Matías Gulf, with differences in the physical, ecological and fisheries characteristics. This study was developed in San Antonio bay, El Fuerte and Islote Lobos. Monthly samplings (October 2005-2007) in the...
