| Mahepõllumajanduses seab saagikusele tihti piiri umbrohtumus, kuivõrd konkureeritakse kultuurtaimedega vee, päikesevalguse ja toitainete pärast ning sageli ollakse vaheperemeesteks ka kahjuritele ning haigustele (Hole jt., 2005). Samas suurendavad umbrohud elurikkust ja toetavad põllukoosluse ökoloogilist talitluskindlust, luues toidubaasi taimekahjustajate looduslikele vaenlastele. Seetõttu tuleb taimekasvatusele kasuks nende mõningane olemasolu põllul, ent liigse konkurentsi vältimiseks tuleb nende arvukust siiski reguleerida, kuid loodushoidlikul moel. | Introduction Huge differences are seen in the use of organic seed in different countries. In some countries, the majority of organic farmers uses organic seed of the dominating crops, while organic farmers in other countries predominately uses conventional seed. The IFOAM basic standards, the EU-regulation (Council regulation (EEC) No 2092/91), and standards in most countries worldwide request organic seed to be used if such seed is available. | Im Zusammenhang mit Problemen verschiedener landwirtschaftlicher Formen der Bewirtschaftung (Ausbringen von Wirtschaftsdünger in verschiedener Intensität; konventionell oder biologisch) im Hinblick auf die Auswaschung von Nährstoffen ins Grundwasser wurden zwar schon einige Versuche mit geeigneten Messgeräten durchgeführt, es fehlen aber immer noch Daten, vor allem für die niederschlagsreichen Gebiete in Österreich. | O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito dos adubos verdes na supressão de plantas espontâneas. O experimento foi instalado no Centro de Ciências Agrárias/UFSCar, Araras, São Paulo, em delineamento experimental de blocos ao acaso, sendo utilizados crotalária (Crotalaria spectabilis) e sorgo forrageiro (Sorghum bicolor) e dois manejos da fitomassa (incorporado e superficial), com quatro repetições. Foram obtidos os índices de valor de importância (IVI) das plantas espontâneas aos 15, 30 e 45 dias após o corte da fitomassa (DAC). | There is a pressing need to develop arable cropping systems that are both more efficient in their use of nitrogen (N) and more resilient to an increasingly variable and unpredictable climate. One potential solution is to use species-rich mixtures of grasses and legumes in the fertilitybuilding phase of a ley/arable crop rotation. These mixtures may reduce N losses and increase productivity of the following crop. They may also have other important benefits such as increased in-field biodiversity. In this project, legume and grass species with a range of tolerances to different environmental conditions, and with differing growth characteristics, are being grown individually and as a mixture across the UK, and their performance assessed. |

| Wheat and triticale are a primary energy source in the feedstuffs in swine diets. Enzyme digestibility of organic matter (EDOM) is an index used in the feed evaluation system for pigs. This is based on the close linear relationship between the in vitro enzyme digestibility of organic matter (EDOM) and in vivo total tract digestibility of energy (Boisen & Fernández, 1997). EDOM is a complex parameter calculated from the protein, carbohydrate, starch and fibre fractions undergoing a three step enzymatic incubation.
