Culicidae (Diptera: Culicomorpha) da Amazônia Ocidental Brasileira: Querari Acta Amazonica
HUTCHINGS,Rosa Sá Gomes; SALLUM,Maria Anice Mureb; FERREIRA,Ruth Leila Menezes.

Analysis of an alternative method for the study of bromeliad-associated fauna in plants with different foliar organization Anais da ABC (AABC)
Müller,Gerson A.; Name,Fernando T.; Pacheco,Frederico C.L.; Marcondes,Carlos B..
The efficiency of an alternative method of collection (by suction of water) for the study of Culicidae and Chironomidae (Diptera), Scirtidae (Coleoptera) and Coenagrionidae (Odonata) in bromeliads with different foliar architecture in a restinga at Florianópolis, SC, Brazil, was studied. The alternative method was less efficient to collect Culicidae and Chironomidae (Wilcoxon test p < 0.05) and was more efficient to Scirtidae and Coenagrionidae (Wilcoxon test p > 0.05) from Aechmea lindenii. This method was less efficient to collect insects of all groups from Vriesea friburgensis (Wilcoxon test p < 0.05). The alternative method was efficient to estimate the diversity of these insects in both species of bromeliads. The higher mobility of...

Culicídeos associados a bovinos de leite, no sul do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Pinto,D.M; Ribeiro,P.B; Vianna,E.E.S.
The occurrence of mosquitoes in the authoring environment of dairy cattle was verified in southern Rio Grande do Sul. For collection of specimens, it was installed a Magoon trap, in which during a couple of cattle-approximately six months of age was placed. Samples were collected during 24 hours, twice a month for 12 months. After 24 hours, the cattle were removed from the trap and the insects were collected inside the trap, with the aid of glass bottles, containing, cotton soaked in acetone. The specimens were taken to the Laboratory of Insect Biology, at the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, to sorting, counting, sexing and identification. Of the mosquitoes caught, specimens of Culex sp. Ochlerolatus scapularis and Mansonia titillans were present. Culex...

Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) near a reservoir in the Western part of the Brazilian State of Santa Catarina Biota Neotropica
Marcondes,Carlos Brisola; Fernandes,Aristides; Müller,Gerson Azulim.
Anopheline and other mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae) in the southern Brazilian State of Santa Catarina have been studied mostly near the Atlantic sea coast and are not well known in other regions of the state. Collections were made near a reservoir in the western portion of the state. At least 26 species were represented in the collections; 10 are recorded for the first time for the state: Coquillettidia venezuelensis, Cq. juxtamansonia, Mansonia wilsoni, Ochlerotatus fluviatilis, Psorophora ciliata, Ps. discrucians, Ps. lanei, Culex bigoti, Sabethes belisarioi and Sa. identicus, and 12 for the first time in the western portion of the state: Anopheles albitarsis, An. intermedius, An. lutzi, An. parvus, An. strodei, Chagasia fajardi, Cx. quinquefasciatus,...

The community of Diptera (Insecta) colonizing axils of Alocasia macrorrhizos (L.) G.Don (Araceae), with records of Aedes aegypti (L.) and Aedes albopictus (Skuse) in urban areas of Manaus, Amazonas Biota Neotropica
Ferreira-Keppler,Ruth Leila; Neiss,Ulisses Gaspar; Torreias,Sharlene Roberta da Silva; Campos,Claudimir Menezes.
Abstract Alocasia macrorrhizos (L.) G.Don grows and proliferates in shaded areas in several forest fragments in urban zones. The adult plant has axils that accumulate rain water (phytotelmata) and serve as breeding sites for several families of aquatic insects. The objective of this study was to determine the composition of the entomofauna associated with water accumulations in axils of A. macrorrhizos in urban areas of Manaus, Brazil. Individuals of A. macrorrhizos were sampled in five forest fragments, between April/2005 and March/2007 in urban areas of Manaus, totaling 184 sampling units. A manual suction hose was used for the removal of entomofauna. A total of 1,941 immatures of Diptera were collected representing the following families: Culicidae...

Mosquitos dendrícolas (Diptera, Culicidae) em internódios de taquara da Floresta Atlântica, Serra do Mar e do Primeiro Planalto, Paraná, Brasil BABT
Lozovei,Ana Leuch.
During two consecutive years, from january 1985 to december 1986, studies were carried out on mosquitoes living in the internodes of bamboo in two distinct regions, the Atlantic Forest of the Serra do Mar and the First Plateau, both in the state of Paraná, Brazil. These dendricolous habitats are very different from other recorded mosquito breeding sites. The internodes of the green, living bamboo are closed reservoirs of water with only some small, lateral holes made by boring insects Eucalyptra barbara Schaus, 1894 and Eucalyptra fumida Schaus, 1894 (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae), and other animals. The water in the internodes derives from the bamboo itself. These are the first observations of this breeding behavior. Some females entirely enter the hole to...
