New fossils referable to the Cancridae Latreille, 1802 extend the known stratigraphic range of the family into the middle Eocene and the geographic range into South America. Each genus within the family has been reevaluated within the context of the new material. A suite of diagnostic characters for each cancrid genus makes it possible to assign both extant and fossil specimens to genera and the two cancrid subfamilies, the Cancrinae Latreille, 1802, and Lobocarcininae Beurlen, 1930, based solely upon dorsal carapace morphology. Cheliped morphology is useful in assigning genera to the family but is significantly less useful at the subfamily and generic level. Each of the four subgenera sensu Nations (1975), Cancer Linnaeus, 1758, Glebocarcinus Nations,... |

Two new brachyuran species are described for the Upper Cretaceous Mexcala Formation, Guerrero State, Mexico. Longusorbis quadratus new species (Coniacian, Temalac region) is the oldest and southernmost record for the genus. Xanthosia zoquiapensis new species (Campanian, Zoquiapa region) is the first record for the genus in Mexico. In addition, the age for Costacopluma bishopi Vega and Feldmann is discussed (Coniacian, Temalac region) and represents the oldest and southernmost record for Cretaceous representatives of this genus in North America. All specimens are considerably smaller compared to other species of the same genera and are interpreted as the first example of brachyuran dwarfism in the geological record. These species add new insight into... |

Two new species of sesarmid crabs are described from the mangroves of Timika in Papua (= Irian Jaya), Indonesia. Haberma kamora spec. nov. is the second species in the genus described from Singapore, differing from the type species in the form of its male first pleopods and possessing relatively more slender ambulatory legs. Parasesarma charis spec. nov. resembles P. erythrodactyla, P. tripectinis and to some extent, P. lepidum, but has different ambulatory leg proportions and a distinctive male first pleopod structure. Parasesarma acis Davie, 1993, is regarded as a junior synonym of P. tripectinis Shen, 1940. |

The decapods Eualus lebourae, Processa modica carolii, Palaemon xiphias, Philocheras bispinosus, and Inachus phalangium are recorded from the coasts of Madeira for the first time. The decapods Hippolyte garciarasoi, Hippolyte varians, Eualus lebourae, Processa parva, Processa modica carolii, Processa robusta, Palaemonella atlantica, Periclimenes wirtzi, Philocheras bispinosus, and Philocheras fasciatus, are recorded from the coasts of the Canary Islands for the first time. Eualus occultus, Processa parva and Processa modica carolii are recorded from the Cape Verde Islands for the first time. Processa parva is also recorded for the Azores for the first time. For Eualus occultus, Hippolyte garciarasoi, Processa modica carolii, Periclimenes wirtzi and... |

Aguirre-Urreta, Maria Beatriz. |
Marine deposits of the Neuquén Basin of west-central Argentina (southern South America) are richly fossiliferous; its Mesozoic invertebrate faunas, represented mostly by molluscs, have been extensively studied since the nineteenth century. However, Early Cretaceous decapod crustaceans are far less known, although part of the systematic framework has been published (Aguirre-Urreta, 1989). The aim of the present note is to provide updated information based on ongoing research into the systematics and taphonomy of this crustacean group in the Neuquén Basin. |
