Wöhler, O.C.; Hansen, J.E.; Giussi, A.R.; Cordo, H.D..
Period 1985-2001. A stock assessment of Patagonian hoki of the Southwest Atlantic was carried out by using data from the years 1985-2001. A cohort analysis, fitted with some survey abundance indices was used in an adaptive conceptual framework. Simulation trials were performed to project the evolution of the fishery, to evaluate the risk of over-fish the stock under different exploitation levels, and to estimate Biologically Acceptable Catches (BAC). Both total biomass and spawning stock biomass showed increasing trends resulting from four strong year classes (1993, 1995, 1996 and 1998). Total biomass at the beginning of 2001 was estimated to be 2.5 million tons, and spawning stock biomass at the spawning time (August) was estimated to be around 1.28...

Seychelles demersal fishery an analysis of data relating to four key demersal species OceanDocs
Mees, C. C..
Seychelles demersal fishery is described based on historic catch and effort data, and on biological studies of four key species: Batrican (Pristipomoides filamentosus), Job Gris (Aprion virescens), Bourgeois (Lutjanus sebae), and Maconde (Epinephelus chlorostigma). During the period 1985 - 1990 demersal species formed on average 33_310= of the total annual landings of the local fishing fleet. Schooners and whalers were the most important boat types engaging in this fishery, and more recently, a mother ship dory fishing operation. Demersal species constituted 77_310= of all local fish exports over this period. In 1990 approximately 2,000 tonnes of demersal species were landed of which 500 tonnes were exported. Lutjanids comprised 62_310= of the demersal...

Roa-Varón, A.; Saavedra-Díaz, L.M.; Acero-P., A.; Mejía-M., L.S.; Navas-S., G.R..
Between October and August 1999 five cruises were made on board of R/V Ancón, across the Colombian Caribbean slope, from Punta Estrella (Guajira), near the Venezuelan border, to Cabo Tiburón (Chocó), near the Panamá border. Eighty trawls were made between 200 and 500 m depth with a semi-balloon net. Twelve new records of fishes for the Colombian Caribbean in the orders Beryciformes, Zeiformes, Perciformes and Tetraodontiformes were collected. Plectranthias garrupellus (Serranidae), Benthodesmus tenuis and B. simonyi (Trichiuridae) are new records for the Caribbean; Diplospinnus multistriatus family (Gempylidae) is a new record for the southern Caribbean.

Manjarrés, L.; García, C.; Acero-P., A..
The mean objetives ofthe present study were to establish the existence of demersal fish associations in the shelf and superior slope of the Colombian Caribbean northern zone and determine if the biotical patterns determineted by these associations are correlationed with the patterns structured by the environmental conditions evaluated. Data were taken from three demersal resources assessment surveys of the INPA-VECEP/UE Program, carried out during the period 1995-1996. The station groups were not consistent in terms of species composition along the different periods. The dominant characteristics of demersal species associations was the absence of temporal persistence. Only it was possible to find some partial associations which remain during a maximum...

OceanDocs
Wöhler, O.C.; Giussi, A.R.; García de la Rosa, S.B.; Sánchez, M.F.; Hansen, J.E.; Cordo, H.D.; Alvarez Colombo, G.L.; Incorvaia, I.S.; Reta, R.; Abachián, V.E..
An assessment survey on the austral fish was carried out during the summer 1997 on both the shelf and slope off southern Argentina. The cruise covered 101,508 nm2 between 45° and 54° 30'S and depths between 50 and 400 m. The survey did not include the area controlled by the United Kingdom. Considering the total area as an undivided stratum, a random sampling was used to estimate demersal fish biomass and a delta distribution-based model to evaluate mean densities. Out of the forty five species caught 28 were bony fish and 17 elasmobranch. Four cephalopod mollusc species were also identified. A biomass of 3.2 million tons (CI(95o/o): 1.90 - 6.06 millions) proved that longtail hake was the most abundant resource within the region followed by common hake...

Seasonal and Long-Term Changes in the Distribution and Abundance of Demersal Fishery Resources in Continental Shelf Waters off Ghana, West Africa OceanDocs
Koranteng, K.A..
Between 1963 and 1990, the abundance of demersal fishery resources in Ghana’s shelf waters underwent significant changes whereby the relative importance of major species changed in every trawl survey conducted in the area. Triggerfish (Balistes capriscus) dominated this ecosystem for nearly twenty years (from early 1970s to late 1980s) displacing bigeye grunt (Brachydeuterus auritus) as the most abundant species. The density of all demersal species (excluding triggerfish) assessed in bottom trawl surveys decreased from 50 kg ha-1 in 1963-64 to 32.4 kg ha-1 in 1990. The lowest density of 22.5 kg ha-1 occurred between 1973 and 1977. Density of triggerfish was high between 1973 and 1982, reaching a value of 28 kg ha-1 between depths of 30 and 50 m. Its...

Palangre de fondo en el Mar Argentino. Parte II. Eduardo L.Holmberg". OceanDocs
Maeda, H.; Ercoli, R.; Fukada, K.; Garcia, J.C..
Bathymetric changes in groundfish catch composition are analyzed, on the basis of routine reports of 106 bottom longline strings. The project was conducted from 12 December 1986 to 29 November 1987, covering areas from coastal waters to the outer shelf of the continental shelf off Argentina from 36° to 55°S. As a preliminary step to the analysis, the validity of each factor as probable explanatory variable in each area, was analyzed with consideration as to their range and variation. Obtained results show that the kingclip (Genypterus blacodes), a main objective of the project, could become one of the most profitable target species of the high-sea bottom longline, in areas along the outer edge of the continental shelf, at bottom depths slightly below 200...
