Slug assemblages in NW Germany (Gastropoda: Milacidae, Boettgerillidae, Limacidae, Agriolimacidae, Arionidae): a result of the mapping survey of Northrhine-Westphalia. This survey provides information on inter-specific associations of slugs on a regional data base. Most of the data originate from the last ten years. In total, 25 slug species are known from the federal state Northrhine-Westphalia, Germany. A rough classification using two character species resulted in three groups. Redefinition of Thapsia Albers, 1860, and description of three more helicarionoid genera from western Africa (Gastropoda, Stylommatophora) Naturalis

As presently used, the helicarionoid genus Thapsia Albers, 1860 embraces a large, heterogeneous assemblage of species. As a first step in the revision of this group of taxa, the genus Thapsia (type species Helix troglodytes Morelet, 1848) is redefined anatomically and conchologically. In the absence of alcohol-preserved material of T. troglodytes, Thapsia ebimimbangana spec. nov. from Cameroon and T. wieringai spec. nov. from Gabon are described to characterize the soft parts morphology of Thapsia. The land Mollusca of Dominica (Lesser Antilles), with notes on some enigmatic or rare species Naturalis

An overview of the land-snail fauna of the Lesser Antillean island of Dominica is given, based on data from literature and four recent surveys. There are 42 taxa listed, of which the following species are recorded for the first time from the island: Allopeas gracile (Hutt on, 1834), A. micra (d’Orbigny, 1835), Beckianum beckianum (L. Pfeiffer, 1846), Bulimulus diaphanus fraterculus (Potiez & Michaud, 1835), Deroceras laeve (Müller, 1774), Sarasinula marginata (Semper, 1885), Streptostele musaecola (Morelet, 1860) and Veronicella sloanii (Cuvier, 1817). First Indonesian record of Fungiacava eilatensis Goreau et al., 1968 (Bivalvia: Mytilidae), endosymbiont of Fungia spp. (Scleractinia: Fungiidae) Naturalis

The mytilid bivalve Fungiacava eilatensis Goreau, Goreau, Neumann & Yonge, 1968, previously mistakenly referred to as F. eilatensis Soot-Ryen, 1969, is reported for the first time from Indonesia. It lives as an obligate endosymbiont of mushroom corals, particulary Fungia spp., reef-dwelling corals restricted to the tropical Indo-Pacific. Notes are given on its association with different host species, its habitat, its biogeography, and its possible competition with endosymbiotic gastropods belonging to the genus Leptoconchus (Coralliophilidae).

The taxonomy of the species of the terrestrial carnivorous snail family Streptaxidae of the Seychelles archipelago is reviewed with the exception of the three species of the genus Priodiscus (vide Gerlach, 1995). All 18 species are restricted to the northern, granitic islands. This paper describes 15 species, including two new genera (Silhouettia and Careoradula), and four new subspecies (Edentulina dussumieri reservae, E. d. silhouettae, E. d. praslina, Stereostele nevilli parvidentata). A new species of Gulella (Pulmonata: Streptaxidae) from montane forest in the Ndoto Mountains, Kenya Naturalis

Gulella mkuu spec. nov. is described from montane forest in the isolated Ndoto Mountains of northern Kenya. Although exceptionally large for the genus, shell, genitalia and radula features suggest it is more closely related to the "G. sellae-ugandensis" complex than to other very large East African species in the subgenus Primigulella Pilsbry. G. mkuu spec. nov. is apparently endemic to the Ndotos.

I made use of the known dates of reclamation (and of afforestations) in the IJsselmeerpolders in The Netherlands to assess evolutionary adaptation in Cepaea nemoralis. At 12 localities (three in each polder), I sampled a total of 4390 adult individuals in paired open and shaded habitats, on average 233m apart, and scored these for genetic shell colour polymorphisms. The results show (highly) significant differentiation at most localities, although the genes involved differed per locality. Overall, though, populations in shaded habitats had evolved towards darker shells than those in adjacent open habitats, whereas a 'Cain & Sheppard' diagram (proportion yellow shells plotted against ‘effectively unbanded’ shells) failed to reveal a clear pattern. This might suggest that thermal selection is more important than visual selection in generating this pattern. Trait differentiation, regardless of whether they were plotted against polder age or habitat age, showed a linear increase of differentiation with time, corresponding to a mean rate of trait evolution of 15–31 kilodarwin. In conclusion, C. nemoralis is capable of rapid and considerable evolutionary differentiation over 1–25 snail generations, though equilibrium may be reached only at longer time scales Naturalis

The distribution of the land snails of the province of Noord-Brabant (Mollusca: Gastropoda) In 2003 and 2004 the landsnail fauna of the province of Noord-Brabant (in the south of the Netherlands) was mapped. In total 251 soil and litter samples were taken and on 272 localities records were gathered on sight. The large amount of new records contributes significantly to the knowledge of the land snail fauna of the province of Noord-Brabant and the Netherlands. In total 72 species were found in 2003 and 2004. No less than 13 species of the 41 land snails from the Dutch red list have been found in Noord-Brabant. The genus Negulus is reviewed; only four Recent species, restricted to continental Africa, are recognized. The genus is extinct in Europe, being only recorded from Tertiary deposits. A key to the shells of the Recent species (all figured) is supplied. The anatomy is as yet unknown. A sinistral shell of N. abyssinicus is described from among a series of paralectotypes in the Leiden Museum, the first such abnormality in the genus (figured). In this paper the Miocene to recent melongenid species of northwest Borneo are discussed. The recent fauna is poor with three genera represented by one species each. Twenty-one species belonging to the family Chromodorididae and one species of Hexabranchus (Hexabranchidae) are present in the 1990 Rumphius Biohistorical Expedition (RBE) collection. The 1996 Fauna Malesiana Marine Maluku Expedition (Mal) collected 43 lots of nudibranchs, mostly chromodorids: 17 species were identified, six of which were not represented in the RBE collection. A total of 35 chromodorid species, belonging to nine genera, are described from Ambon and nearby localities. Studies on the Streptaxidae (Mollusca: Gastropoda Pulmonata) of Malawi 12 Four new species of Gulella s.l. Naturalis

Gulella annibiodiversitatis spec. nov. is described from a few scattered localities in montane forest above c. 1300 m in southern-central Malaŵi. It is mainly characterized by a smallish (4.9-6.3 mm high), smooth and generally featureless shell without apertural dentition. Gulella menkhorsti spec. nov., has a small (2.3-2.9 mm high) and smooth shell with a six-fold dentition and is probably a restricted range endemic; so far it has only been recorded from the Mpita Forest in southern Malaŵi. Five new micro molluscs from the Tropical Western Atlantic (Gastropoda, Rissooidea, Barleeidae, Rissoidae) Naturalis

Five new species of Rissooidea from the West Indies are described. The barleeid Lirobarleeia brami n. sp. from Dominica; Simulamerelina novemstriata n. sp., and Alvania debruynei n. sp., both from Cayman Brac; Alvania turkensis n. sp. from Grand Turk, and Alvania dejongi n. sp. from Mustique. All except Lirobarleeia brami n. sp. and Alvania dejongi n. sp. are known from their type localities only, the latter is known to occur more widespread in the tropical western Atlantic.

A new subterranean species of Zonitidae, Lindbergia (?) karainensis spec. nov., is described. It is known from Karain and Suluin, two neighbouring caves about 30 km NNW of Antalya (SWAsia Minor, Turkey), where shells of it have been found in late pleistocene and holocene deposits. Its anatomy is unknown. The systematic position of the new species, based only on conchological and ecological characteristics, is not entirely certain.

Hummelinckiella borinquensis, a new genus and species in the subfamily Stephopominae (Caenogastropoda: Siliquariidae) with notes on the genera Caporbis and Stephopoma and the “Blasian subregion” Naturalis

A new genus and species, Hummelinckiella borinquensis n.gen. & n.sp. has been discovered in sediments from shallow water off Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Grand Turk (Turks & Caicos Islands). Because of the striking sculpture of its protoconch, it is placed in a new genus of the subfamily Stephopominae. The only other known western Atlantic member of the Stephopominae is Stephopoma myrakeenae Olsson & McGinty, 1958 recorded from the eastern Caribbean (Leeward Islands), herewith invalidating the “paciphile” status of this species and genus, and casting doubts on the value of the “Blasian Subregion”, indicated by Petuch (1990) as a biogeographical unit.
