Genetic diversity in oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) using RAM (Random Amplified Microsatellites) Bragantia
Cardona,Christian Camilo Castañeda; Coronado,Yacenia Morillo; Conronado,Ana Cruz Morillo; Ochoa,Iván.
ABSTRACT The oil palm (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) plays an important role in the economy of some tropical countries; Colombia ranks first for production in Latin America and fifth in the world. The aim of this research was to characterize the genetic variability of 51 oil palm genotypes from the Congo with seven randomly amplified microsatellite markers RAM. As a result, 241 alleles were generated andthe number of polymorphic loci ranged from 46 to 14 for the ACA and CGA primers, respectively. High genetic diversity was found, with a total heterozygosity of 0.64, along with a high percentage of polymorphic loci, 89%. The coefficient of genetic differentiation (Fst) was 0.15, indicating that there was moderate genetic differentiation. The genetic diversity...

Variation and its distribution in wild cacao populations from the Brazilian Amazon BABT
Dias,Luiz Antônio dos Santos; Barriga,Júlio Pontes; Kageyama,Paulo Yoshio; Almeida,Caio Márcio Vasconcellos Cordeiro de.
A sample of 64 progenies (320 cacao trees as a whole) from four Brazilian Amazon basins was collected and evaluated on the basis of 15 fruit and seed traits. Nested univariate analyses of variance showed significant variation across progenies and basins. However, most of the variability appeared to be due to among trees and basins differences. The multivariate analysis showed that the differentiation in cacao populations occurred among basins. Since cacao diversity was predominantly found in trees within basins and among basins, one should optimize the collecting process by taking as many trees as possible starting from few progenies and many river basins. These findings seemed to validate gene conservation efforts made to date to preserve the cacao...

Heterogeneous genetic structure in a natural population of Raulí (Nothofagus nervosa) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Carrasco,Basilio; Eaton,Lafayette; Letelier,Luis; Díaz,Carole; García-Gonzáles,Rolando.
Heterozygote deficiencies in natural populations of outbreeding tree species are common and thought to be due mainly to biparental inbreeding. Inbreeding is believed to be caused by family structure within populations, a product of limited seed dispersal and probably limited pollen dispersal. Although both theory and simulation studies predict that structure should be apparent where trees are isolated by distance, most studies of structure in natural populations have detected only a weak spatial genetic structuring. In this contribution, we compare the use of spatial autocorrelation methodology and F statistics with the concept of relatedness to examine the spatial genetic structure in the natural population of a native southern beech and to explore the...

Proximal causes of genetic variation between and within populations of rauli (Nothofagus nervosa) Ciencia e Investigación Agraria
Carrasco,Basilio; Garnier,Maurice; Eaton,Lafayette; Guevara,Rafael; Carú,Margarita.
Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA(RAPD)markers were used to assess the genetic diversity of 587 individuals, belonging to 22 populations of Nothofagus nervosa that were distributed through the Coastal (38°S to 41 °S) and Andes Mountains in Central-Southern Chile (36°S to 40°S). The objective of this study was to complement the genetic inferences previously determined by isozyme analysis, in order to obtain more accurate genetic diversity estimations. We scored 81.8% of the polymorphic loci of the samples tested. The average incidence of genetic polymorphism within populations was high, with values ranging between 33% and 63%. Analysis of molecular variance (AMOVA) showed most of the genetic variation was distributed within populations (87.6%), but FST...

Genetic diversity in natural populations of Hancornia speciosa Gomes: Implications for conservation of genetic resources Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Fajardo,Cristiane Gouvêa; Costa,Daniel Ferreira da; Chagas,Kyvia Pontes Teixeira das; Vieira,Fábio de Almeida.
ABSTRACT The continuing fragmentation of forests has been a threat to the maintenance of genetic resources. Genetic diversity is fundamental to the survival of species in natural environments in the long term, as well as being the basis for genetic improvement. The objective of this study was to evaluate the genetic diversity in natural populations of Hancornia speciosa and to contribute to the development of conservation strategies. We sampled 105 individuals of H. speciosa, distributed in seven populations. The ISSR (Inter-Simple Sequence Repeat) markers provided 70 loci, of which 81% were polymorphic. The mean genetic diversity of Nei (h) was 0.19, and the Shannon index (I) was 0.27. The h and I diversity indices ranged respectively from 0.16 to 0.24 in...
