Influence of corn sowing density and gliricidia intercropping on weed control Planta Daninha
Silva,P.S.L.; Souza,A.D.; Paula,V.F.S.; Oliveira,F.H.T.; Silva,K.M.B..
There is interest in the identification of the best seeding density for new corn hybrids and on reduced use of herbicides for weed control. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of seeding density (30, 50, 70, and 90 thousand plants ha-1) and weed control on green ear yield and grain yield in corn cultivar AG 1051. A completely randomized block design was adopted with split-plots (seeding densities assigned to plots) and ten replicates. Weed control was achieved by means of two hoeings and by planting corn intercropped with gliricidia (between corn rows, in pits spaced 0.3 m apart). A "no weeding"treatment was included as well. Increased seeding density increased the total number and weight of marketable green ears and decreased the...

Nitrogen doses and weed control via intercropping with gliricidia for corn production Planta Daninha
Silva,P.S.L.; Braga,J.D.; Ribeiro,M.S.S.; Oliveira,O.F.; Santos,T.S..
Many studies have demonstrated the beneficial influence of nitrogen doses on corn dry grain yield and green ear yield. Due to a growing concern with environmental degradation, many agricultural practices, adopted in the past, are being reexamined. With regard to weed control, strategies that employ mechanical control, including intercrops, are being the object of renewed interest. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of the application of nitrogen doses (0, 40, 80, and 120 kg N ha-1; as ammonium sulfate) and weed control on the growth, green ear yield, and grain yield of the AG 1051 corn cultivar. A randomized block experimental design with split-plots and nine replications was adopted. In addition to nitrogen rates, the AG 1051 cultivar...

Weed control via intercropping with gliricidia: II. corn crop Planta Daninha
Silva,P.S.L.; Cunha,T.M.S.; Oliveira,R.C.; Silva,K.M.B.; Oliveira,O.F..
A reduction in herbicide use is one of modern agriculture's main interests and several alternatives are being investigated with this objective, including intercropping. Gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium) mulch has no allelopathic effect on corn or beans but significantly decreased the population of some weed species. The objective of this study was to evaluate green ear and grain yield in corn cultivars as a response to weed control achieved via intercropping with gliricidia. A completely randomized block design with five replicates and split-plots was used. Cultivars AG 1051, AG 2060, BRS 2020, and PL 6880 (assigned to plots) were submitted to the following treatments: no hoeing, hoeing (performed at 20 and 40 days after sowing the corn), and corn...

Modeling the Competitive Effect of Euphorbia dracunculoides and Astragalus sp. in Zero Input Rainfed Chickpea Planta Daninha
IKRAM,R.M.; TANVEER,A.; MAQBOOL,R.; NADEEN,M.A..
ABSTRACT: Brown chickpea (Cicer arietinum L.) is one of the two chickpea types grown in Pakistan and other countries. The critical period for weed removal in a rainfed chickpea system is an important consideration in devising weed management strategies. Field experiments were conducted in the winter season of 2011 and 2012 to determine the extent of yield loss with different periods of weed crop competition. Seven weed crop competition periods (0, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 and 160 days after sowing - DAS) were used to identify the critical period for weed removal in rainfed chickpea. Experimental plots were naturally infested with Euphorbia dracunculoides and Astragalus sp. in both years. Individual, composite density and dry weights of E. dracunculoides and...

Grain Yield Prediction of Henan Province Based on Spatio-temporal Regression Model AgEcon
Liu, Qin-pu.
By using correlation analysis method, regression analysis method and time sequence method, we combine time and space, to establish grain geld spatio-temporal regression prediction model of Henan Province and ail prefecture-level cities. At first, we use the grain geld in prefecture-level cities of Henan in the year 2000 and 2005, to establish regression model, and then taking the grain yield in one year as independent variable, we predict the grain yield in the fifth year afterwards. Taking the dependent variable value as independent variable again, we predict the grain geld at an interval of the same years, and based on this, predict year by year forward until the year we need. The research shows that the grain yield of Henan Province in the year 2015 and...

Maize response to nitrogen fertilization timing in two tillage systems in a soil with high organic matter content Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Sangoi,Luis; Ernani,Paulo Roberto; Silva,Paulo Regis Ferreira da.
No-tillage systems, associated to black oat as preceding cover crop, have been increasingly adopted. This has motivated anticipated maize nitrogen fertilization, transferring it from the side-dress system at the stage when plants have five to six expanded leaves to when the preceding cover crop is eliminated or to maize sowing. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of soil tillage system and timing of N fertilization on maize grain yield and agronomic efficiency of N applied to a soil with high organic matter content. A three-year field experiment was conducted in Lages, state of Santa Catarina, from 1999 onwards. Treatments were set up in a split plot arrangement. Two soil tillage systems were tested in the main plots: conventional tillage (CT)...

Performance of Flooded Rice Grown in Succession to Winter Cover Crops Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Luz,Silmara da Correia; Silva,Paulo Regis Ferreira da; Boeni,Madalena; Bredemeier,Christian; Anghinoni,Ibanor; Menegati,Guilherme Batista; Maass,Matheus Barreto; Miozzo,Laís Correa.
ABSTRACT: Mean grain yield of flooded rice in southern Brazil has increased in recent years due to the use of high-yield cultivars and improvement of crop management practices. Nevertheless, stagnation in grain yields has been observed in some rice-producing regions. Adoption of conservation tillage systems based on cover crops may be a strategy to increase rice grain yield potential. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of winter cover crops on initial establishment, development, and grain yield of flooded rice (Oryza sativa L.) grown under different fertilization levels and no-tillage. A field experiment was carried out for three consecutive years (2010/11, 2011/12, and 2012/13) in Cachoeirinha, Rio Grande do Sul, South Brazil....

Reference Values of Grain Nutrient Content and Removal for Corn Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Duarte,Aildson Pereira; Abreu,Mônica Ferreira de; Francisco,Eros Artur Bohac; Gitti,Douglas de Castilho; Barth,Gabriel; Kappes,Claudinei.
ABSTRACT: Unchanged reference values of grain nutrient contents for corn have been used for over 20 years, despite yield increases, the development of new hybrids, and modifications to cropping systems, especially the establishment of in-season second crops and the wide adoption of no-tillage. This study measured macro- and micronutrient contents in corn grains from different regions, in the first (summer) and second (fall) crop, to update the reference values of estimated nutrient removal. A secondary objective was to determine whether there were correlations between grain nutrient contents and grain yields and densities. In this study, 175 corn grain samples of experiments on cultivar evaluation and 22 samples from soil management trials from five states...

Do Rates and Splitting of Phosphogypsum Applications Influence the Soil and Annual Crops in a No-Tillage System? Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Vicensi,Marcelo; Müller,Marcelo Marques Lopes; Kawakami,Jackson; Nascimento,Ronaldo do; Michalovicz,Leandro; Lopes,Christian.
ABSTRACT Applications of phosphogypsum (PG) provide nutrients to the soil and reduce Al3+ activity, favoring soil fertility and root growth, but allow Mg2+ mobilization through the soil profile, resulting in variations in the PG rate required to achieve the optimum crop yield. This study evaluated the effect of application rates and splitting of PG on soil fertility of a Typic Hapludox, as well as the influence on annual crops under no-tillage. Using a (4 × 3) + 1 factorial structure, the treatments consisted of four PG rates (3, 6, 9, and 12 Mg ha-1) and three split applications (P1 = 100 % in 2009; P2 = 50+50 % in 2009 and 2010; P3 = 33+33+33 % in 2009, 2010 and 2011), plus a control without PG. The soil was sampled six months after the last PG...

Modern High-Yielding Maize, Wheat and Soybean Cultivars in Response to Gypsum and Lime Application on No-Till Oxisol Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Nora,Douglas Dalla; Amado,Telmo Jorge Carneiro; Nicoloso,Rodrigo da Silveira; Gruhn,Eduardo Müller.
ABSTRACT Modern maize, wheat, and soybean cultivars are usually characterized by a short cycle, high shoot-root ratio, and high responsiveness to nutrient input. Continuous no-tillage management (NTS) frequently leads to a steep gradient in soil chemical quality with depth, thus decreasing yield under conditions of acid subsoil and water stress. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of gypsum, applied separately or in combination with lime, on the yield of cultivars used in the state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. The study consisted of four experiments conducted on a typic Hapludox under NTS. The experiment was arranged in a randomized block design with three replications. Experiments I and II were carried out on soils with a satisfactory chemical soil...
