Leaf area estimation from linear measurements in different ages of Crotalaria juncea plants Anais da ABC (AABC)
CARVALHO,JULIANA O. DE; TOEBE,MARCOS; TARTAGLIA,FRANCIELI L.; BANDEIRA,CIRINEU T.; TAMBARA,ANDRÉ L..
ABSTRACT The goal of this study was to estimate the leaf area of Crotalaria juncea according to the linear dimensions of leaves from different ages. Two experiments were conducted with C. juncea cultivar IAC-KR1, in the 2014/2015 sowing seasons. At 59, 82, 102, 129 days after sowing (DAS) of the first and 61, 80, 92, 104 DAS of the second experiment, 500 leaves were collected, totaling 4,000 leaves. In each leaf, the linear dimensions were measured (length, width, length/width ratio and length × width product) and the specific leaf area was determined through Digimizer and Sigma Scan Pro software, after scanning images. Then, 3,200 leaves were randomly separated to generate mathematical models of leaf area (Y) in function of linear dimension (x), and 800...

Characterization of volcanic structures associated to the silicic magmatism of the Paraná-Etendeka Province, in the Aparados da Serra region, southern Brazil Anais da ABC (AABC)
BENITES,SUSANA; SOMMER,CARLOS A.; LIMA,EVANDRO F. DE; SAVIAN,JAIRO F.; HAAG,MAURICIO B.; MONCINHATTO,THIAGO R.; TRINDADE,RICARDO I.F. DA.
Abstract The Paraná-Etendeka Magmatic Province is associated with the distensive tectonics that caused the rupture of the Gondwana continent during the Lower Cretaceous and generated an intense volcanism that covers South America and the NW portion of Namibia in Africa. In Brazil, this volcanic sequence is named Serra Geral Group and predominantly consists of basalts and subordinated silicic rocks. The goal of this study is to characterize the geomorphological features observed in the Aparados da Serra region, southern Brazil, and to evaluate the relationship between these structures and the primary silicic volcanic structures. The geomorphological features were first identified using remote sensing and then correlated with flow structures observed in the...

Design of a three-dimensional hand/forearm model to apply computational fluid dynamics BABT
Marinho,Daniel Almeida; Reis,Victor Machado; Vilas-Boas,João Paulo; Alves,Francisco Bessone; Machado,Leandro; Rouboa,Abel Ilah; Silva,António José.
The purpose of this study was to develop a three-dimensional digital model of a human hand and forearm to apply Computational Fluid Dynamics to propulsion analysis in swimming. Computer tomography scans of the hand and forearm of an Olympic swimmer were applied. The data were converted, using image processing techniques, into relevant coordinate input, which could be used in Computational Fluid Dynamics software. From that analysis, it was possible to verify an almost perfect agreement between the true human segment and the digital model. This technique could be used as a means to overcome the difficulties in developing a true three-dimensional model of a specific segment of the human body. Additionally, it could be used to improve the use of Computational...

A clinical gamma camera-based pinhole collimated system for high resolution small animal SPECT imaging BJMBR
Mejia,J.; Galvis-Alonso,O.Y.; Castro,A.A.de; Braga,J.; Leite,J.P.; Simões,M.V..
The main objective of the present study was to upgrade a clinical gamma camera to obtain high resolution tomographic images of small animal organs. The system is based on a clinical gamma camera to which we have adapted a special-purpose pinhole collimator and a device for positioning and rotating the target based on a computer-controlled step motor. We developed a software tool to reconstruct the target’s three-dimensional distribution of emission from a set of planar projections, based on the maximum likelihood algorithm. We present details on the hardware and software implementation. We imaged phantoms and heart and kidneys of rats. When using pinhole collimators, the spatial resolution and sensitivity of the imaging system depend on parameters such as...

Predictive efficiency of distinct color image segmentation methods for measuring intramuscular fat in beef Ciência Rural
Mello,Renius; Vaz,Fabiano Nunes; Pacheco,Paulo Santana; Pascoal,Leonir Luiz; Prestes,Rosa Cristina; Costa,Patrícia Barcellos; Kipper,Djenifer Kirch.
Intramuscular fat (IMF) influences important quality characteristics of meat, such as flavor, juiciness, palatability, odor and tenderness. Thus, the objective of this study was to apply the following image processing techniques to quantify the IMF in beef: palette; sampling, interval of coordinates; black and white threshold; and discriminant function of colors. Thirty-five samples of beef, with a wide range of IMF, were used. Color images were taken of the meat samples from different muscles, with variability in the IMF content. The IMF of a thin cross-section meat was determined by chemical lipid extraction and was predicted by image analysis. The chemical method was compared with the image analysis. The segmentation procedures were validated by the...

Leaf area estimation of squash ‘Brasileirinha’ by leaf dimensions Ciência Rural
Toebe,Marcos; Souza,Rafael Rodrigues de; Mello,Anderson Chuquel; Melo,Patrícia Jesus de; Segatto,Alexandre; Castanha,Ana Carla.
ABSTRACT: The objectives of this work were estimate the leaf area of squash ‘Brasileirinha’ by linear dimensions of the leaves and check models available in the literature. An experiment was conducted in the 2015/16 sowing season. Were collected 500 leaves and in each one, were measured the length (L), width (W) and length×width product (LW) and determined the real leaf area (LA). Then, 400 leaves were separated to generate models of the leaf area (LA) as a function of linear dimension (L, W or LW) of squash. The remaining 100 leaves were used for the validation of models. A second experiment was conducted in the 2016/17 sowing season. Were collected 250 leaves, used only for the validation of the models of the first experiment. There is collinearity...

Antioxidant activity and physiological performance of popcorn seed after saline stress and analysis of seedling images Ciência e Agrotecnologia
Catão,Hugo Cesar Rodrigues Moreira; Caixeta,Franciele; Lopes,Amanda Moreira; Nery-Silva,Flavia Andrea; Sá Júnior,Adílio de.
ABSTRACT Salinity influences all germination stages and may adversely affect seedling establishment in the field. The objective of this research was to determine the relationship between the antioxidant activity and the physiological performance of seeds and to verify the efficacy of the imaging analysis of popcorn seedlings after seed exposure to saline stress. A completely randomized design was used that consisted of four replicates in a factorial scheme. This scheme comprised three popcorn hybrids (P618, AP6002, and AP8203) and five saline potential levels (0.0; -0.1; -0.3; -0.6, and -0.9 MPa) that were obtained from KCl solutions of different concentrations. First count germination, germination and seedling vigor classification (strong normal...
