The influence of seed coating on the vigor and early seedling growth of barley Ciencia e Investigación Agraria

Seed coating is a process in which a thin and uniform polymer layer is deposited on the surface of a seed. The objective of this study was to evaluate the vigor of barley seed coated with a commercial polymer and various combinations of calcium, silicon and fungicide. In addition to a control with only the polymer coating, a total of 17 seed coating treatments were used in a completely randomized factorial design (18 treatments × 4 replicates per treatment). Calcium and silicon were applied at concentrations of 0, 25 or 50 g kg¹ of seed, and 0 or 3.0 mL of fungicide was applied. The means were compared using a Duncan test (P≤0.05). O presente trabalho teve como objetivos avaliar a qualidade fisiológica e sanitária de sementes de girassol (Helianthus annuus L.), provenientes do Ensaio Regional de Cultivares de Girassol, instalado na área experimental da Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM), em Santa Maria - RS, nas safras 1984/85 e 1985/86. Foram testados 15 genótipos e duas épocas de colheitas; a primeira quando as sementes atingiram, pela primeira vez, 14 - 13% de umidade e a segunda oito dias após. A qualidade fisiológica das sementes foi avaliada através dos testes de germinação e vigor (envelhecimento acelerado, strictu sensu), peso de mil sementes e conteúdo de matéria seca. Priming of Stylosanthes seeds Ciência Rural

It is estimated that 60% of the area of cultivated pasture, in the Brazilian Savannah, is degraded or in process of degradation, due to, among other causes, the lack of nitrogen. The Stylosanthes genus is the legume which has the greater number of cultivars used in tropical pastures, however, its seeds have characteristics which can difficult the formation of an adequate stand of plants on pasture. In this research the aim was to evaluate the effects of priming in the speed and uniformity of the Stylosanthes capitata, S. macrocephala and S. guianensis seeds germination. The work was carried out at the EliseuMaciel Agronomy College of the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, with four rice cultivars, IRGA 417, Avaxi CL, Inov CL and IAS 12-9 (Formosa). The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the size of seeds of Sudan grass (Sorghum sudanense L.), standardized on density, on parameters of physiological quality and crop productivity.
