The galatheoid Paragalathea africana, from the Late Cretaceous (Cenomanian-Turonian) of Gara Sbaa (Kem Kem, Morocco), is revised, based on the holotype and one additional specimen. A new genus, Muelleristhes, is here erected to accommodate this species; it is placed in the family Porcellanidae Haworth, 1825. |

Hammen, L. van der. |
In the course of the last years, I have been investigating the morphology of various groups of mites. During this comparative study, special attention has been paid to the gnathosoma, which organ represents the specialized structure of the mouthparts in this subclass. Recently, while summarizing my results on the phylogeny of the gnathosoma (Van der Hammen, 1969), it appeared necessary to start from a more primitive Arachnid condition in which the chelicerae are still in front of the palps; at the same time, just as in the mites, the coxisternal region of the palp should be present, and the mouth should be in front of the chelicerae. This condition is indeed still found in one primitive order of Arachnidea, viz., the Palpigradida. Representatives of this... |

In the collections brought together by Dr. L. D. Brongersma, Dr. L. B. Holthuis, and Dr. M. Boeseman, during their voyage to New Guinea and adjacent islands 1), there are a number of crabs and hermit crabs bearing Rhizocephalan parasites. Some of the Sacculinidae of this collection are dealt with in the present paper. Sacculina carinata Kossmann Material examined: No. 1333. Host Thalamita admete (Herbst), carapace breadth 18 mm; measurements of parasite 7 X 5 X 2 1/2 mm (fig. 1b). No. 1324A. Host Thalamita admete (Herbst), carapace breadth 14 mm; measurements of parasite 6 1/2 X 4 X 2 mm (fig. 1a). No. 1324B. Host Thalamita admete (Herbst), carapace breadth 10 1/2 mm; measure-ments of parasite 6 X 3 X 1 1/2 mm (fig. 1c). No. 1334. Host Thalamita admete... |

Terrestrial isopods of the Ooijpolder: part 2. ecology (Crustacea: Isopoda: Oniscidea) From 1991 up to 1998 the isopod fauna of 1464 squares of 100x100 m was sampled in the Ooijpolder. This area is situated along the river Waal, east of Nijmegen (the Netherlands), close to the German border. In part 1 (Wijnhoven 2000) the distributions and habitats of seventeen species of woodlice were discussed. In that paper the basic information on topography, methods, species list and list of first and second order habitats can be found. In this second and last part the ecological information is summarised. First the zoogeographical position of the species is indicated. This proved to be important in understanding the distribution patterns and habitats of the species... |

The species are described or redescribed and illustrated, extended synonymies are given, and a key for their identification is provided. |

Recently made collections have indicated that the pontoniid shrimp fauna of the east coast of Australia, including the Great Barrier Reef, is still poorly known. Material obtained by the staff of the Australian Museum from their collections at One Tree Island and Heron Island in the Capricorn Group on the Great Barrier Reef has provided some interesting material new to the Australian fauna and their collections have provided specimens of Periclimenes lanipes which were collected by the Fisheries Investigation Ship "Endeavour", but not included in the report on the Decapoda Natantia by Schmitt (1926). With two exceptions the remaining species included in this report are also new to the Australian fauna and four are known only from the original type... |

Up to the late sixties of this century the number of species of the genus Uca occurring on the East and Gulf coasts of North America seemed rather well established. Usually ten species were listed: U. burgersi Holthuis ( = U. affinis (Streets)), U. leptodactyla Rathbun, U. minax (Le Conte), U. pugilator (Bosc), U. pugnax (Smith), U. rapax (Smith), U. speciosa (Ives), U. spinicarpa Rathbun, U. subcylindrica (Stimpson) and U. thayeri Rathbun. Subsequently, however, some uncertainty arose about the number of fiddler crab species of the Gulf coast area. Barnwell (1968) mentioned an undescribed species from Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Salmon and co-workers described no less than three new Gulf coast species of Uca (Salmon & Atsaides, 1968; Novak &... |
