Caracterização de manejos das principais culturas agrícolas na área de entorno do Parque Estadual de Vila Velha, Paraná, Brasil - DOI: 10.4025/actasciagron.v30i2.1732 Agronomy
Schimandeiro, Adriana; Technische Universitat Munchen - Alemanha; Kantelhardt, Jochen; Institute of Agricultural Economics and Farm Management - Alemanha; Weirich Neto, Pedro Henrique; UEPG.

Carcass characteristics and chemical composition of Longissimus muscle of 32 young bulls from four genetic groups slaughtered at 14 months old were evaluated. Experimental design was completely randomized and distributed into four genetics groups: 1. Caracu (CAR); 2. Canchin (CAN); 3. Charolais vs. Caracu (CHC) and 4. Aberdeen Angus vs. Canchin (AAC). Carcass dressing and carcass conformation were lower for CAR than CAN, CHC and AAC genetic groups. No difference has been reported with regard to moisture, ash, crude protein, total lipids and total cholesterol among four genetics groups. The genetic groups influence fatty acid profile on Longissimus muscle in bulls. Cattle with zebu genes had the highest rates in unsaturated fatty acids, saturated fatty...

Production and economic viability of feedlot beef cattle categories Animal Sciences
Santos, Petrônio Batista dos; Santana Junior, Hermógenes Almeida de; Araújo, Marcos Jacome de; Oliveira, Aracele Prates de; Freitas, Tiago Brandão; Viana, Pablo Teixeira.
This study was realized to evaluate the production and economic viability of finished beef cattle in feedlot in the Cerrado biome of Piauí State, Brazil. One hundred and fifty cattle -50 bulls (B) with an body weight of 283.0 ± 20.82 kg, at 30 months of age; and 100 cull cows (CC) with an body weight of 296.1 ± 17.80 kg, at 100 months of age- were used in a completely randomized design. The animal performance indicators for the evaluation of economic viability were initial age (months), slaughter age (months), was initial body weight (kg), final body weight (kg), daily feed intake (kg animal-1; kg kg-1 BW), diet cost (R$ kg-1 of diet), cost of kg produced (R$ kg-1 produced), and average price of the kg of meat for finishing (R$). The CC consumed more...

Improving the yield of rice (Oryza sativa L) in existing irrigated areas rather than further expansion is more likely to be the main source of growth for the crop in Kenya, especially due to limited land and water resources. In order to achieve this, there is need to identify and adopt solutions that are environmentally more sustainable. That is, the production systems adopted should reduce water consumption and increase productivity. This study evaluated whether the System of Rice Intensification (SRI) could increase water use efficiency and crop productivity relative to the conventional production system of continuous flooding. The effects of SRI on total water input and the growth characteristics of three rice varieties were investigated in a split-plot...

Multidisciplinary approach to identification of fishery production systems on the northern coast of Brazil Biota Neotropica
Bentes,Bianca; Isaac,Victoria Judith; Espírito-Santo,Roberto Vilhena do; Frédou,Thierry; Almeida,Morgana Carvalho de; Mourão,Keila Renata Moreira; Frédou,Flávia Lucena.
Artisanal fishing on the northern coast of Brazil is characterized by a set of different fishery modalities. Using a multidisciplinary approach, 20 fishery production systems were identified, with distinct characteristics regarding technology and purpose. The characteristics of each system were classified into five dimensions (ecological, economic, social, technological and political). Multidimensional scaling revealed that some of these 20 systems have greater similarities. Thus, a total of 10 groups were identified.

Economic Viability of Tomato Cultivation in Organic Farming System BABT
Santos Neto,José dos; Schwan-Estrada,Kátia Regina Freitas; Sena,José Ozinaldo Alves de; Telles,Tiago Santos.
ABSTRACT The aim of the present study is to evaluate the economic viability of tomato cultivation in a system of organic farming, and to compare it with the conventional farming system. The fixed and variable costs of both cultivation systems were calculated, as well as the costs of disease control with the application of alternative products and pesticides. The revenues were computed using commercial production and the direct sales price. The total cost per area was higher in the conventional system, while the cost per plant was greater in the organic system, since it used a lower plant population density. In the conventional system, 2.33 times more was spent on plant management, due to the fact that the number of sprayings was greater than that carried...

Utility to Consumers and Consumer Acceptance of Information on Beef Labels in Southern Chile Chilean J. Agric. Res.
Schnettler M,Berta; Silva F,Roberto; Sepúlveda B,Néstor.
Credence attributes (production system, animal welfare, traceability, among others) have acquired importance for meat products in developed countries, representing information that must be included on label. A personal survey was administered to 770 consumers in the Bío-Bío and La Araucanía Regions, Chile, to determine the utility of information contained on the label and acceptance of information referred to as credence attributes, as well as to distinguish different consumer segments. The packaging and expiry dates were the most useful aspects of the current information. The greatest degree of agreement with respect to information that should be included was a quality seal, type of animal, handling regarding animal welfare, production system and feeding....

Economic-financial feasibility of pantaneiro lamb finishing systems Ciência Rural
Silva,Leize Tatiane da; Reis Neto,José Francisco dos; Malafaia,Guilherme Cunha; Costa,José Alexandre Agiova da.
ABSTRACT: Technical and economic-financial performance of pantaneiro lamb finishing in feedlot (F) and semi-feedlot (SF) was evaluated. When analyzing the profitability, economic efficiency and the price sensitivity, was profit in all the scenarios evaluated. The gross margin (GM) was 69% and 52%, net margin (NM) was 65% and 48% and profitability index (PI) was 39% and 29%, as well as total productivity of factors (TPF) was R$1.53 and R$1.36, respectively, in the systems F and SF. Investment analysis showed that the activity is economically viable, remunerating all production factors and capital invested. Internal return tax was, respectively, 27% and 16% for the in feedlot and semi-feedlot systems.
