First report of Simuliidae and Chironomidae (Diptera) living on nymphs of Lachlania Hagen (Ephemeroptera: Oligoneuriidae) in South America Biota Neotropica
Pepinelli,Mateus; Siqueira,Tadeu; Salles,Frederico Falcão; Shimbori,Eduardo Mitio.
We report cases of Simuliidae and Chironomidae living on Lachlania nymphs (Ephemeroptera). This is the first record of these associations in South America. Simulium exiguum (pupae and larvae), Simulium cuasiexiguum (larvae), Cricotopus sp. (larva) and Rheotanytarsus sp. (larva) were found associated with Lachlania nymphs. We believe that all of these associations can be classified as opportunistic (or casual) attachment.

Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera e Trichoptera assemblages in Miranda River basin, Mato Grosso do Sul State, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Righi-Cavallaro,Karina Ocampo; Spies,Marcia Regina; Siegloch,Ana Emilia.
The knowledge on the Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera (EPT) assemblages in running waters of Mato Grosso do Sul State is still deficient. As a contribution to improve this situation, this study presents an inventory of immature EPT assemblages in Miranda River basin. The samples were collected between January and September 2006 from 4th to 7th orders river reaches. A total of 3069 larvae were collected, belonging to 49 genera and 17 families. The caddisflies presented the greatest abundance while the mayflies presented the greatest richness. Of the larvae collected, 22 genera of Ephemeroptera and 20 of Trichoptera are new occurrences for the State. The high genera richness observed in this study, with sites subjected to moderate to high human...

New records and checklist of aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera (Insecta: Hemiptera: Gerromorpha and Nepomorpha) from the Southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil Biota Neotropica
Floriano,Carla Fernanda Burguez; Oliveira,Iana Aparecida Dalla Valle; Melo,Alan Lane de.
A list of aquatic and semi-aquatic Heteroptera species from the southern region of Mato Grosso do Sul State is presented. The material was collected between 2008 and 2009. Samples were obtained from 10 streams (Água Boa, Cerro Verde, Cumprida, Ponte, Doradão, Guaçú, Guaporites, Nhu-Verá, Perobão and Santa Maria), one river (Iguatemi River) and nine ponds (Bacal, Balan, Ponte, Cinco, Macrófitas, Bugão, Sítio, Cascalho, and Oxbow). A total of 63 aquatic and semi-aquatic species of Heteroptera were recorded, of which 32 are new records.

Diversity and habitat preference of aquatic insects along the longitudinal gradient of the Macaé River basin, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil BJB
BAPTISTA,D. F.; BUSS,D. F.; DORVILLÉ,L. F. M.; NESSIMIAN,J. L..
Diversity and habitat preference of macroinvertebrates were studied in Macaé River basin, Rio de Janeiro State, Brazil, along its longitudinal gradient. We selected stream reaches corresponding to 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th and 6th orders. A Surber sampler was used to collect four macroinvertebrates samples of each substrate (sand, litter in pool areas, stones, and litter in riffle areas) during the three sampling periods, defined based on the rain regime: April (end of the rainy season), July (dry season), and October (beginning of the rainy season). We identified 46,431 specimens corresponding to 117 taxa. Analysis of diversity numbers (both for family or genus level) indicated that all insect taxonomic orders had higher numbers on 2nd order stream reach, except...

Occurrence of filamentous fungi in Simulium goeldii Cerqueira & Nunes de Mello (diptera: simuliidae) larvae in central Amazonia, Brazil BJM
Fonseca,Quézia Ribeiro; Sarquis,Maria Inez de Moura; Hamada,Neusa; Alencar,Yamile Benaion.
The family Simuliidae is the host of simbiontes fungi that inhabit the digestive tracts of arthropods. This paper reports the presence of fungi in Simulium goeldii Cerqueira & Nunes de Mello larvae in Amazonia. We observed that the larvae are a good component of aquatic systems to isolate filamentous fungi.
