| Within the COST action EMBOS (European Marine Biodiversity Observatory System) the degree and variation of the diversity and densities of soft-bottom communities from the lower intertidal or the shallow subtidal was measured at 28 marine sites along the European coastline (Baltic, Atlantic, Mediterranean) using jointly agreed and harmonized protocols, tools and indicators. The hypothesis tested was that the diversity for all taxonomic groups would decrease with increasing latitude. | Dans le cadre de la surveillance du milieu marin du site électronucléaire de Penly (Seine-Maritime), le domaine benthique côtier de Dieppe à Criel-sur-Mer a fait l'objet en juin 2008 d'une prospection biomorphosédimentaire comme celles réalisées en 1988, 1992, 1996, 2000 et 2004. L'étude morpho-sédimentaire et les prélèvements faunistiques ont été réalisés du 4 au 12 mai 2008 à bord du N/O Thalia. | The numbers of fish caught and photographed in the eastern North Atlantic (49-52°N and 10-15°W) were compared from 46 hauts, made between 1979 and 1983 using an epibenthic sledge with an ancillary camera. There were 1966 specimens captured and 258 photographed. Fish species of similar appearance were grouped to aid identification from photographs. The 20 speciesjgroups common to both gears were represented by 83.6% of the specimens captured. Although there was good correlation between the numbers, catch density was about one third of that photographed, demonstrating how much such estimates may be at variance. | The long-term variations of two coastal benthic communities (Eastern English Channel, France) were studied between 1979 and 1994 by means of factor correspondence analysis (FCA), trophic structure and rank-frequency diagrams (RFD). FCA identified periods of relative homogeneity and periods of strong variation in the structure of the two communities.
