The overall acceptability of 202 consumers has been analysed by ANOVA, multiple means comparison, cluster analysis and internal preference mapping (MDPREF). Three clusters are found with different preference criteria. These clusters can also be characterized according to actual purchase behaviour, declared consumption habits and sociodemographic characteristics. This study demonstrates the importance for the agro-food industry of examining consumers’ individual preferences as well as average ones, to obtain relevant information including not only the consumers’ preference trends, but also the most suitable segment to target a new product. In this way, the MDPREF shows that although consumers’ preferences tend to Iberian hams over white-breed hams, there is... |

Typically, big changes in the economic system lead to alterations on the disposable income of families and thus on their spending for different type of products, including food. These may imply, in the long run, a structural modification of the quality of diet of the population. After the fall of the socialist system, in the past two decades Central and Eastern European countries, including Hungary, went through a profound, and sometimes difficult transition of their political and economic systems, shifting from a centralized planned economy to an open market economy, and more importantly, the European Union integration. Economic change in lower-income and transitional economies of the world appears to coincide with increasing rapid social change. With... |

In my present paper I try to characterise the differences present at the level of food preferences by means of examining the value system as, in my opinion, differences in the value system are reflected in concrete product choices and thus also in food selection. By using factor and cluster analysis I have proven that consumer groups formed alongside the value system also differ regarding food consumption viewpoints. Furthermore, in my paper I also aim to characterise food preference as a determining factor of modes of daily eating. Based on the results, I have concluded that the impact of time-related preferences on food selection can be felt in consumers’ opinions, but cannot be regarded as dominant. In the system of food selection viewpoints, internal... |

According to the 2010 China Statistical Yearbook, a total of 12 indicators in the aspects of residents’ production, consumption expenditure, and living conditions are selected in order to construct the indicator system of rural development level. Both factor analysis and cluster analysis methods are adopted to compare the current situations of rural development levels in 31 provinces and regions of China. Result of factor analysis shows that the 12 indicators can be classified into 4 factors, such as the income and expenditure factor, the agricultural scale and science and technology factor, the life quality factor, and the agricultural output factor. Moreover, factors affecting the rural development level of China are analyzed. Then, the 31 provinces and... |

The location of ethanol plants is determined by infrastructure, product and input markets, fiscal attributes of local communities, and state and federal incentives. This empirical analysis uses probit regression along with spatial clustering methods to analyze investment activity of ethanol plants at the county level for the lower U.S. 48 states from 2000 to 2007. The availability of feedstock dominates the site selection decision. Other factors, such as access to navigable rivers or railroads, product markets, producer credit and excise tax exemptions, and methyl tertiary-butyl ether bans provided some counties with a comparative advantage in attracting ethanol plants. |

This paper evaluates the impact of institutional and governance factors on the performance of 10 smallholder agricultural cooperatives in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Five of the cooperatives grow and market vegetables, three produce and market poultry, one is a beef production cooperative and another operates a bakery. The results of a cluster analysis suggest that the performance of the selected smallholder cooperatives is influenced by institutional and governance problems. Institutional problems give rise to low levels of equity and debt capital, reliance on government funding, low levels of investment, and subsequent loss of members. Governance problems are strongly linked to the absence of secret ballot, low levels of education, lack of production and... |

The U.S. Salvadoran population is the largest group of Central and South American people living in the United States today. This study investigates the U.S. food market for thirty Salvadoran foods and the demographic characteristics and attitudes of Salvadorans toward these foods, based on data obtained from a survey conducted among Salvadoran people in Los Angeles, California, and Houston, Texas. Those surveyed were predominantly low income, without a high school degree, and living in large families. The Salvadoran foods consumed most were tortilla flour, red beans, loroco, semita, queso duro, and horchata. Four different groups of households were determined by using cluster analysis. The results indicate that products from El Salvador with the greatest... |

According to availability of rural data, and the actual situation of economic development in different areas, 1 first grade index, 2 grade indices and 20 third grade indices are selected to establish the measurement index system of circular economic development level in rural areas. According to the relevant data, standardized processing of data is conducted. Evaluation on circular economic level in Hebei Province by Factor Analysis indicates that comprehensive score of Shijiazhuang, Qinghuangdao and Tangshan Cities is the highest, that of Xingtai, Handan, Langfang, Baoding, Cangzhou Cities is at a medium level, and that of Hengshui, Chengde and Zhangjiakou is the lowest. Meanwhile, cluster analysis on data after standardization shows that Handan, Baoding,... |
