Recently discovered crabs from the Middle to Upper Eocene of northern Bonaire, Netherlands Antilles, include well-preserved carapaces of Montezumella rutteni Van Straelen, originally described from an incomplete holotype. The more comprehensive description of this species provided herein includes documentation of the first attributable left cheliped of Montezumella. From the same locality, Ocalina sublevis sp. nov. considerably extends the known geographic range of this genus. Both of these Tethyan decapod genera apparently migrated west from the Mediterranean region during the Eocene. Despite these new determinations, decapod crustaceans remain poorly known from the Eocene of the Antillean islands. Additionally, Callianassa pustulosa Withers from the... |

A new species of scyllarid lobster, Ibacus chacei, from eastern Australia is described and illustrated. The new species can be distinguished from all other known Ibacus species by the shape of the third maxilliped. Ibacus brevipes Bate, 1888 is recorded from Australia for the first time. Seven out of the eight known species of Ibacus are now recorded from Australia. Colour descriptions, and updated distributions for all Australian Ibacus species are included, plus further comments on the type locality of Ibacus peronii Leach, 1815. Colour illustrations and a key to the eight known species of Ibacus are also provided. |

A new genus of parthenopid crab, Garthambrus gen. nov., characterised by a broad carapace with strongly raised branchial and gastric regions, distinctive rostrum, sub-cylindrical ambulatory meri and a long distal segment of the second male pleopod, is established for six deep water species from various parts of the Pacific. A new species, Garthambrus posidon spec, nov., is also described from depths of between 480 to 600 m off the Seychelles in the Indian Ocean. It differs from its closest congener, G. poupini (Garth, 1993), in having a proportionately broader carapace, less granulated carapace and chelipedal surfaces, and in the form of the carapace regions. |

A study of major collections led to a revision of the Indo-Pacific leucosioid genus Myra Leach, 1817. The systematic status and nomenclatural disposition of each species was assessed, and many were diagnosed based on examination of the type material. A new genus, Myrine, is established for M. acutidens (Ihle, 1918) and M. kesslerii (Paulson, 1875). The genus Myrodes Bell, 1855, is synonymized with Myra. Nine species are retained as valid: M. affinis Bell, 1855, M. australis Haswell, 1880, M. brevimana Alcock, 1896, M. elegans Bell, 1855, M. eudactyla (Bell, 1855), M. fugax (Fabricius, 1798), M. grandis Zarenkov, 1990, M. mammillaris Bell, 1855, and M. subgranulata Kossmann, 1877. Five new species are established: M. celeris, M. currax, M. curtimana, M.... |

A new species of Palaemon, P. vicinus spec. nov., is described from the tropical eastern Atlantic. The new species is very close to P. elegans Rathke, 1837, under which name it was previously recorded from West Africa. Palaemon vicinus spec. nov. is easily separated from P. elegans by possessing a small tooth on the fifth abdominal pleuron (quadrate in P. elegans) and by having 2-3 rows of setae in the grooming brush of the fifth pereiopod (4-5 in P. elegans). The discovery of the new species amongst material identified as P. elegans further highlights the need to reassess species level characters in the genus Palaemon. |

The genus Hippolyte Leach in the East Atlantic and the Mediterranean is revised and a list of the world species is given. Eleven species occur in the area studied: H. coerulescens (Fabricius), H. garciarasoi spec. nov., H. inermis Leach, H. lagarderei d'Udekem d'Acoz, H. leptocerus (Heller), H. leptometrae Ledoyer, H. niezabitowskii spec. nov., H. palliola Kensley, H. prideauxiana Leach, H. sapphica d'Udekem d'Acoz, H. varians Leach. An elaborate key, complete descriptions and illustrations of all species are provided, while their ecology is discussed in detail. A morphological account is also given for the species occuring in the Suez Canal: H. proteus (Paulson) and H. ventricosa H. Milne Edwards. It is shown that H. prideauxiana (previously H. huntii)... |

A new genus, Coleusia, is established for Leucosia species with segments 3-5 of the male abdomen fused, the shaft of the male’s first pleopod coiled thrice on its axis, bearing distally a setose lobe and an elongate apical process: L. biannulata Tyndale-Biscoe & George, 1962, L. magna Tyndale-Biscoe & George, 1962, L. signata Paulson, 1875, and L. urania (Herbst, 1801), and a new species: C. rangita. The species are described or redescribed and illustrated, extended synonymies are given, and a key for their identification is provided. |

Keys to the sufamilies, genera, as well as seperate keys to the species occurring in certain biogeographical areas are provided. At least the synonymy, type-locality, and distribution of the species are listed. The following new taxa are described: Calliapaguropinae subfamily nov., Podocallichirus genus nov., Callianassa whitei spec. nov., Callianassa gruneri spec. nov., Callianassa ngochoae spec. nov., Neocallichirus kempi spec. nov. and Calliax doerjesti spec. nov. |

A study of the genus Leucosia Weber, 1795, led to the establishment of the identity of the type species, L. craniolaris (Linnaeus, 1758), designation of a neotype and redefinition of the genus. Leucosia is now restricted to 4 species: the type species L. craniolaris (Linnaeus, 1758), L. punctata Bell, 1855, L. moresbiensis Haswell, 1880, and a new species, L. rubripalma. They differ from all other species heretofore assigned to the genus in having first male pleopod with a screw-like tightly coiled shaft, terminating in a setose muff. The species are described or redescribed and illustrated, extended synonymies are given, and a key for their identification is provided. |

Spiridonov, V.A.. |
During the Rumphius Biohistorical Expedition (RBE) to Ambon, 33 species of swimming crabs were collected in the littoral and upper sublittoral zone by hand on tidal flats, using SCUBA, and using a Holthuis dredge. Lissocarcinus arkati, L. laevis, Charybdis (C.) hellerii, C. (C.) orientalis, C. (C.) variegata, Portunus hastatoides, P. iranjae, P. longispinosus, P. stephensoni, T. chaptalii, T. cooperi, T. stephensoni are recorded at Ambon and in the Moluccas for the first time. The Portunus tenuipes complex is partly revised and P. rugosus sensu Stephenson (1961) is considered a synonym of P. tenuipes De Haan, 1835. A new species, P. pseudotenuipes occurring at Ambon, in the Philippines and off South-East Asia is described. The Ambon fauna includes 55... |
