In this work we present a process of risk analysis related to the adoption of a Total Allowable Catch (TAC)based in series of allowable biological catches which contain uncertainty derived of the recruitment patterns which characterize the stock. With the information obtained by the F0,1, and F30. RDP, the exploitation ratio and with the 500 values of the projected biomass of 1995 obtained by Monte Carlo simulation, we calculate the distribution of the allowable biological catches under a scheme of F0,1, and F30. RDP andfor a natural mortality of 0.38. The selected TAC is expected to beas closer as possible to the reference fishery mortality F0,1, and F30. RDP. As a result of the present risk analysis in this study in Macruronus magellanicus of the SW... |

Current fisheries management approaches based on centralised government intervention have proven inadequate to deal with the present management and cannot meet its objectives including reverting stock depletion, resolving user-group conflicts, increase profitability and prevent social disruption. There is no easy solution to this problem. New institutions enabling fishing communities to deal with present pressures are needed. Fisheries management is however still largely government-driven although experiences worldwide show that various forms of partnership between government, industry and fishers strengthen management and produce results. Such partnerships have become known as co-management. |

Bioeconomic modeling and risk assessment of the spiny lobster, Panulirus argus (Latreille, 1804), fishery in the Gulf of Batabanó, Cuba. The spiny lobster Panulirus argus is the major fishery resource in Cuba, which produced an average revenue of about 70 million US$ a year during 2000-2004. There are 1,280 fishermen and 7,840 workers linked to administrative, industrial and fishery activities in lobster exploitation, which makes a total of 9,120 persons who economically depend on this resource. In the Gulf of Batabanó, where 60% of the catch is obtained, the economic rent constitutes 74% of the revenue, which represented profits about 35.2 million US$ a year as an average over the last five years. Because of its economic relevance, updating and in-depth... |
