Correcao do solo e adubacao da cultura da soja. Infoteca-e
SOUSA, D. M. G. de; LOBATO, E..
In order to grow soybeans in cerrado soils it is necessary a previous, reduction of soil acidity and to build up the soil fertility. It is recommended the application of limestone to raise the soil pH up to the range between 5,5 and 6,0 or to increase base saturation up to 50%. The chemical constraints for root growth in the subsurface soil layers, such as the high aluminum saturation and/or calcium defficiency, can be overcome by the addition of gypsum. The recomended levels of gypsum vary from 700 kg/ha for sandy soils to 3200 kg/ha for heavy clayey soils. Fertilizers to supply phosphorus and potassium are recommended according to their availability in the soil determined by chemical analysis. Critical levels for those nutrients as well as the...

New wheat genotypes tolerant to aluminum toxicity obtained by mutation induction PAB
Tulmann Neto,Augusto; Alves,Marcelo Correa; Camargo,Carlos Eduardo de Oliveira; Castro,Jairo Lopes de; Ferreira Filho,Wilson Penteado.
Seed from the sensitive wheat (Triticum aestivumL.) cultivar Anahuac was treated to gamma-ray irradiation and eleven Al3+ tolerant mutants selected. The objective was to compare these mutants to the original Anahuac and to the tolerant wheat cultivars IAC-24 and IAC-60 from 1994 to 1996 in acid (Capão Bonito) and limed (Monte Alegre do Sul) soil field trials, in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Grain yield and agronomic characteristics were analyzed. All the mutant lines yielded higher than the sensitive Anahuac cultivar in the acid soils of Capão Bonito. Under limed soil conditions, 10 mutants had a similar yield to the original sensitive cultivar and one a lower yield. The majority of the mutants were similar in yield to the tolerant cultivars IAC-24 and...

Land Improvements Under Land Tenure Insecurity: The Case of Liming in Finland AgEcon
Myyra, Sami; Pietola, Kyosti.
This article solves and characterizes optimal decision rules to invest in irreversible land improvements conditional on land tenure insecurity. Economic model is a normative dynamic programming model with known parameters for the one period returns and transition equations. The optimal decision rules for liming are solved numerically, conditional on alternative scenarios on the likelihood that the lease contract and, thus, farmer access to land is either renewed or expired. The model parameters represent Finnish soil quality and production conditions. The results suggest that irreversible liming decreases quickly and the yields decline gradually, when the farmer is confronted with land tenure insecurity caused by uncertain renewal of the lease contract....

Evaluation of Sikora instead of SMP buffer to estimate the potential acidity of brazilian soils Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Santanna,Maria Alice; Kaminski,João; Rheinheimer,Danilo dos Santos; Toledo,Jaderson dos Anjos; Casali,Carlos Alberto.
Despite the efficiency of the Shoemaker, McLean, Pratt (SMP) buffer method in estimating soil acidity, the presence of p-nitrophenol and potassium chromate in the solution, both hazardous substances, has caused increasing environmental concerns. The purpose of this study was to test Sikora method (Sikora, 2006) as an alternative to the adapted SMP buffer method, generally used to estimate potential acidity of Southern Brazilian soils. For the test, 21 soils in the South and Cerrado regions of Brazil were sampled. (1) The potential acidity values of these soils range from 35.95 to 4.02 cmol c kg-1 of soil, reflecting a wide acidity variation. The Sikora buffer does not mimic the adapted SMP buffer used in Southern Brazil, since the former has a low ability...

Boron Leaching Decreases withIncreases on Soil pH Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Sá,Alessandra Aparecida de; Ernani,Paulo Roberto.
ABSTRACT Management of boron fertilization depends on the magnitude of B leaching in the soil profile, which varies proportionally with the concentration of B in the soil solution, which, in turn, decreases as the soil pH increases due to the higher sorption of B on soil solid surfaces. The objective of this study was to quantify the effect of liming and rates of B applied to the soil on B leaching. The experiment was carried out in the laboratory in 2012, and treatments consisted of a factorial combination of two rates of liming (without and with lime to raise the soil pH to 6.0) and five rates of B (0, 10, 20, 50 and 100 mg kg-1, as boric acid). A Typic Rhodudalf was used, containing 790 g kg-1 clay and 23 g kg-1 organic matter; the pH(H2O) was 4.6....

Influence of soil pH on inorganic phosphorus sorption and desorption in a humid brazilian Ultisol Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Sato,Shinjiro; Comerford,Nicholas Brian.
Liming is a common practice to raise soil pH and increase phosphorus (P) bioavailability in tropical regions. However, reports on the effect of liming on P sorption and bioavailability are controversial. The process of phosphorus desorption is more important than P sorption for defining P bioavailability. However few studies on the relationship between soil pH and P desorption are available, and even fewer in the tropical soils. The effects of soil pH on P sorption and desorption in an Ultisol from Bahia, Brazil, were investigated in this study. Phosphorus sorption decreased by up to 21 and 34 % with pH increases from 4.7 to 5.9 and 7.0, respectively. Decreasing Langmuir K parameter and decreasing partition coefficients (Kd) with increasing pH supported...

Increase of grain and green matter of corn by liming Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Ernani,P. R.; Nascimento,J. A. L.; Oliveira,L. C..
Despite the fact that aluminum toxicity to crops is eliminated near soil water pH of 5.5, lime recommendation in many regions aims to increase soil pH up to 6.0 or even higher. For highly buffered soils, high rates of limestone are required to raise the pH from 5.5 to 6.0, resulting in additional, sometimes unnecessary, costs. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of soil pH on corn yield in a very acid Hapludox. The experiment was carried out in Lages, Southern Brazil, from 1992 to 1996. The soil had water pH of 4.7, Al3+ of 33 mmol c kg-1, O.M. of 45 g kg-1 and lime requirement to pH 6.0 of 9.0 t ha-1. Dolomitic limestone at rates of 0, 4.5, 9.0, 13.5 and 18.0 t ha-1 (equivalent to pure CaCO3) was incorporated into the soil down to 17 cm...

Phosphorus availability in oxidic soils treated with lime and silicate applications Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Sandim,Aline da Silva; Büll,Leonardo Theodoro; Furim,Ariane Reis; Lima,Géssica da Silva; Garcia,Jader Luis Nantes.
Based on the assumption that silicate application can raise soil P availability for crops, the aim of this research was to compare the effect of silicate application on soil P desorption with that of liming, in evaluations based on two extractors and plant growth. The experiment was carried out in randomized blocks with four replications, in a 3 × 3 × 5 factorial design, in which three soil types, three P rates, and four soil acidity correctives were evaluated in 180 experimental plots. Trials were performed in a greenhouse using corn plants in 20-dm³ pots. Three P rates (0, 50 and 150 mg dm-3) were applied in the form of powder triple superphosphate and the soil was incubated for 90 days. After this period, soil samples were collected for routine chemical...

Peanut response to lime and molybdenum application in low pH soils Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Quaggio,J. A.; Gallo,P. B.; Owino-Gerroh,C.; Abreu,M. F.; Cantarella,H..
Liming acid soils is considered to assure the availability of Mo in crops. Additionally, in peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) the positive response to liming is associated to a better supply of Ca+2, Mo for the nitrogenase-complex activity, and other non-nitrogen fixing activities of the crop. This study was thus undertaken to assess the effect of lime, Mo, and the lime-Mo interaction on peanut crop, on an acid Ultisol at the Mococa Experimental Station, Instituto Agronômico, São Paulo State, Brazil, from 1987 to 1990. A randomized complete block design with four replications, in a 4 x 4 factorial arrangement, was used in the study. The factors included four lime rates (0, 2, 4, and 6 t ha-1) broadcast and incorporated into the soil, and Mo (0, 100, 200, and...

Sampling Layer for Soil Fertility Evaluation in Long-Term No-Tillage Systems Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Vieira,Renan Costa Beber; Fontoura,Sandra Mara Vieira; Bayer,Cimélio; Ernani,Paulo Roberto; Anghinoni,Ibanor; Moraes,Renato Paulo de.
ABSTRACT In no-tillage (NT) systems, there is no plowed layer since the soil is not tilled. Thus, the soil layer for fertility evaluation can be defined as the one in which the fertility indices are affected by the surface application of lime and fertilizers and soil properties have the closest relationship with crop yields. The objective of this study was to determine the most appropriate soil layer under long-term NT for sampling for fertility evaluation in the South-Central region of Paraná, Brazil. A total of 99 field experiments of crop rotations were performed, including soybean, corn, barley, wheat, and white oat, all on Oxisols (Hapludox). Despite the surface application, lime and fertilizers increased base saturation (V) and available K to a depth...

Response of Epidendrum Ibaguense (orchidaceae) to the application of lime rates to the pot Rev. Bras. Ciênc. Solo
Rodrigues,Donizetti Tomaz; Novais,Roberto Ferreira; Alvarez V,Víctor Hugo; Dias,José Maria Moreira; Villani,Ecila Mercês de Albuquerque.
In the best cultivation methods of orchids, in particular of the genus Phalaenopsis, liming is a common practice. The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of lime rates (0.0; 1.0; 2.0; 3.0; 4.0; and 5.0 g dm-3 of substrate) applied to the cultivation substrate (xaxim) on the growth of Epidendrum ibaguense seedlings. In a greenhouse, 1-L plastic pots filled with 0.8 dm³ of xaxim were irrigated such that no leachate was lost during the experiment. N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, Fe, Zn, B, and Mn contents in roots, stems and leaves were measured. Leachate was collected by applying a sufficient water volume to obtain 25 mL from each pot. Fourteen days after lime application of 3 g dm-3, the pH of the collected leachate reached values above 7 and a value...

The clarification of sugarcane juice and the use of CA-11 yeast produces better quality cachaça Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Mutton,Márcia Justino Rossini; Garcia,Graciany; Teixeira,Vitor; Silva,Aline Ferreira; Costa,Gustavo Henrique Gravatim; Ferreira,Osania Emerenciano.
ABSTRACT Cachaça is the second most consumed alcoholic beverage in Brazil, obtained by distilling wine from fermented sugarcane must, and has an alcohol content of 38 to 48% (v/v) at 20 ºC. The quality of the drink is affected by the raw material used, the treatment of the juice, the type of yeast and the distillation process. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of two types of yeast (selected and pressed) and the prior physical and chemical treatment of the sugarcane juice on the quality of the cachaça. The experimental design was completely randomised with 9 replications. The primary treatment was represented by the must (obtained from clarified and non-clarified juice) and the secondary treatment by the types of yeast (CA-11 and...

Lime application methods, water and bottom soil acidity in fresh water fish ponds Scientia Agricola
Queiroz,Julio Ferraz de; Nicolella,Gilberto; Wood,Charles Wesley; Boyd,Claude Elson.
Although some methods for determining lime requirement of pond soils are available and commonly used, there is still no consensus on whether it is more effective to apply liming materials to the bottoms of empty ponds or to wait and apply them over the water surface after ponds are filled. There is also little information on how deep lime reacts in pond sediment over time, and whether the depth of reaction is different when liming materials are applied to the water or to the soil. Therefore, three techniques for treating fish ponds with agricultural limestone were evaluated in ponds with clayey soils at a commercial fish farm. Amounts of agricultural limestone equal to the lime requirement of bottom soils were applied to each of three ponds by: direct...
